I own a 2019 AllTrack Passat with four wheel drive (4motion) and 190bhp from its diesel engine ( like the Golf GTD). Best car I’ve ever owned because it does everything I need- very practical, huge boot, comfortable ride with the additional security of four wheel drive. The engine is powerful with loads of torque so carrying a full load doesn’t affect its performance. Very economical too and on a long run it will get to 50-55mpg. Best thing has been its reliability and I’ve owned quite a few cars in the past ( Citroen, Audi, several Golfs, Mercedes). Don’t allow badge snobbery get in the way - yes it’s not the cheapest but cars are so expensive now that £30-£40 encompasses a lot of different types of cars - the new Mini Countryman is over £40k!
I would 100% buy this exceptionally good-looking family rig in mild hybrid form if it came to the US....which it sadly never will. I truly hope it sells well in Europe! Maybe someday we'll wake up here and start to embrace estates again. Thank you for another great review, Vicky. What would they do without you?!
Considering how much prices have risen across the board in recent years, in 2024 £35-£40k for a large estate with loads of equipment is actually not that bad.
I have a Rline Passat and I absolutely love it. I've Goodyear vectors on it and the thing is so smooth because of it. Enjoy driving it and it's at home on a dual carriageway.
Love me an estate, my Leon ST has been written off, placed an order for a Kia Proceed!! Long live the estate! I'd love a new Passat, but ouch the price , not many under the £40k "luxury" car tax!
Sedans and station wagons are way better than SUVs. 💫 It's annoying that car manufacturers are ending the production of sedans and station wagons because of SUVs.
They're following the money. I'm not a fan of SUVs either, but unfortunately, everyone else is, hence why they dominate the sales charts. When manufacturers like Rolls-Royce, Bentley, Lamborghini and Ferrari start making SUVs and those particular models are the biggest sellers in their respective ranges, you know the game is up. The SUV is here to stay.
The sister car to this, the Superb, is better looking and available with diesel. VW's half hearted attempt at this latest generation in the UK is sad, but sales figures are against it.
I think we are just about to see i rise in the estate car again. Not in the millions mind u, It seems to be brands, bringing some more back, and I think people are starting to look for SUV alternatives as well.
Really don't get the fascination with the Sod-All Utility Vehicle trend. Apart from the high driving position they have next to no advantage over a standard family hatch. If you want to lug the family and all your gubbins around you just can't beat an estate. MPVs were useful but they've bitten the dust as well now that automakers have convinced everyone to fork over their hard earned on over priced puddings that generate massive profit mark ups compared to normal cars.
You'd better buy one now then as they are dead meat when the Chinese EV competition arrives and any sane person realises why would I pay VW all that money for that spec and those servicing costs!
@@rjmacf0015 everyone isn’t ev happy go lucky and I’ve owned over 15 VW’s and currently in a 2022 Tiguan there are still some of us that get to buy what we like and want and not just what we can afford 😁💯
I would much rather have a Passat then a Tiguan. I think its sad people are brain washed into thinking suvs are better, the passat has more interior space and a bigger boot also far more efficient and better to drive then the Tiguan
I guess, this car is for traditionalists who really do not want SUV (like me). I am also sure that traditionalists really hate all-touchscreen nonsense we have in a cockpit. Well, that means that for me, after two passats, octavia and superb, now it will be some other car, just because of all touchscreen cockpit.
Because they still offer the best compromise between performance and economy especially for long distances. Governments have demonised them along with climate change lobbyists. Drive a BMW 330d or Mercedes and Audi equivalents and they are great cars - remember that not that long ago we were all encouraged to buy them.
@@dkmyww Every other person i know who has had one has had electrical issues. Consistent mediocre performances in reliability surveys too. And a poor warranty.
they have good max speed even with this smaller engines so 223kmh with 150hp diesel or 222kmh petrol ,its record max speed on this size of vehicle!!i think thst french ones needs 180hp for thst and electric ones 300+ hp if they not limited and most are no matter 150 or 500
I also like the fact it's not an SUV. Long live the car. It does the job if you've got kids, dogs, crap.... to transport around.

Cars are just too expensive right now. 35-40k for a Passat

Agree! Superminis almost £30k?? Are they mad?!?’ £30,000 for a supermini……bonkers!
@@Kelveronthat’s exactly what I thought !!!! Just ‘given’… it’s sounds sensible.
Yeah ridiculous pricing...
Totally agree, prices today's cars a joke 🎉

The Life trim does not come with Heated seats as standard. They are built in but not powered. You want them that'll be £8 a month!
Since when did reviewers start liking gloss finish??

Superb all the way
so no diesel in UK
I would be interested to see a comparison with the Superb estate. I prefer the look of the Skoda
The sister car to this, the Superb, is better looking and available with diesel. VW's half hearted attempt at this latest generation in the UK is sad, but sales figures are against it.
And the Passat is based on the Superb. Why no mention of this in the video?
Great car. The mild hybrid system never drives the car on its own.
Volvo V90 vs the VW Passat estate?

Sadly I do think the new designed headlihhts make the front look MG5 ish. Although I am here for the no nonsense honesty car you review it to be.
2 kinds of cars in the world Volkswagen…..and the rest 💥💯cool review

Remember when they cheated the emissions? and tested diesel fumes on monkeys? Didn't think so. But at least it has class trailing 3 yr warranty. lol

Yes I agree, people are too crazy about SUVs, but maybe you should compare the VW Passat to a VW Touareg and a VW Golf estate to the VW Tiguan🤷♂️
I enjoyed watching the video review, one of the best Estate Cars 😊
Its just legendary
They've not brought it to Ireland which is a shame!
I have a Passat Estate great car, however when I am parked between two SUV's, reversing out is a lottery!
Shame they don't bring the hatchback also

Volkswagen Passat & Jetta Sedans left South Africa in 2019 for good .
Volkswagen Passat 1973-2024 51 years of the Passat before it was a Variant .
More comfortable then a Golf
Diesel diesel diesel ❗️why go back in time 🤷🏻♂️

HURRAH!, It's not an suv🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Wagons are the bomb!!! 🥳🥳🌞
Hate that dashboard. Gloss plastic and then a matt screen.
Front looks like a Peugeot 😮
It looks like a Skoda Superb only more expensive
Estate cars are so sexY
Looks like a golf
Sensationally boring also.
"Passat legend"....seriously? It's always been very average and expensive.
VW are also sensationally unreliable... Long term rental only if you must have one and then let the used vehicle buyer deal with the repair bills...
Never had a problem with vw or audi ..
If you watch you tube then you will be faced with myths of all types thrown at you constantly.
