We wanted to do something a little different this year and so here’s our cover of @TheBeatles’s ‘Eleanor Rigby’. What a year… To anyone out there struggling with isolation and loneliness, this one’s for you.
The song ‘Eleanor Rigby’ really is a sad and extremely poignant song, dealing with issues of disillusionment, loneliness, and isolation in society.
‘Look at all the lonely people' - is a lyric that has stuck with us forever.
We wondered about a modern day Eleanor Rigby, and what it would be like if a character like her was alive today and experiencing 2020. We felt some of the song’s themes dovetailed closely with the negative revelations surrounding the mass adoption of social media, phone addiction and the proliferation of the ‘pseudo-connections’ these platforms provide. The artwork for our cover version shows a young ‘Eleanor Rigby’, illuminated by her device, dependent on it, manipulated by it, and totally in the clutches of addiction to it. ‘Wearing the face that she keeps in a jar by the door’ - this facade or metaphorical mask that she puts on is now perhaps equivalent to today’s face modifying filters. The notion of ‘keeping up appearances’ despite problems / unhappiness is problematic. The pandemic and resulting lockdowns have of course also given many of us a strong experience of loneliness in the real world. We have been trying to deal with our personal experience of this by being creative, which has been a much needed port in the storm. We’ve alway found music to be a great comfort and we hope you guys do too. HUGE love to all you guys. We’re working hard to finish up album 3!

I have to admit that its not even all that often that a remake does its original justice but this hits. Something I can bring home to my dad.
Now this is why GUNSHIP are in their own league... they cover a Beatles song...and its ultra poignant as hell. ALL THE FEELS. WE NEED THIS IN 2020!

If you go to the doctors and tell them you are suffering with severe migraines, you should apparently not be treated, because some place in the world someone is suffering more than you.
Can you not see how stupid that logic is? Rich or poor, house or no house, people can suffer and have it bad. You cannot simply compare two peoples suffering like that. But due to covid a lot of people are indeed suffering more than they used to, many people have died as well, but apparently this is not bad, because somewhere someone is being tortured to death.
I think you should think this through one more time. People can feel bad and suffer even when their life is great othervice.

Back when Tears for Fears experimented a lil with New Wave was the gateway to Synthwave for me... and everything from Stranger Things, to Gunship, to Scandroid, to The Midnight... all just keeps me here 😂
ST reminded me of Retrowave which eventually led to me finding Gunship and being hooked on them for over a year now.

This is the best cover of any song I've ever heard. Alex, Alex, Dan... I want you to know that Gunship is easily and objectively the greatest band currently making music, and a solid contender for the greatest band that ever did. When I first heard Dark All Day, you guys quickly made the #1 spot on my list of favourite bands which had been the same for years before discovering you.

Great composing. And a great song in general that was even relevant before the pandemic! The synths also take me back to the good old Yazoo days.
GUNSHIP not stopping with the interesting rich mixes. The sounds and everything would clash so hard without the smooth mixing. They are certainly something to watch out for.

I grew up, my mom had their best hits on CD along with all the individual albums she loved most. We would listen to it every day on the way to school.
I never listened to the lyrics that closely.

This will not be a popular opinion by most of you but I am just not a Beatles fan. That being said I completely enjoyed this version and I am blown away by everything this band puts out. Love the cover of Time after Time(and the original obviously) and it's just different enough to be it's own. Excited for new music from this band.

This song has been stuck in my head for a week now.
I'd never heard (more likely not paid attention to) the Beatles version of this song.
This made me go listen to it. This version is pure 80's horror movie. I want to know how Eleanor died, what did Father McKenzie do? Why did not one here his sermons? I feel sorry for Eleanor, but I'm also wondering if the face in the jar is an actual face in a jar.
The original feels like a story the locals tell tourists to make the place seem more interesting than it is. It' sgood, but it's a song, while this ia a mood, a vibe and something you can crank in the car at night driving around.
Also listened to Ray Charles cover - did nothing for me.
Also listened to the Pomplamoose cover (they're very not synth). Was not ready for the sorrow. Something about Nataly on bass and Jack on the beat to hell piano...
