The relationship between Silverbolt and Black Arachnia was by far the second best thing about Beast Wars (Dinobot's death is still the best). I hated how they broke Silverbolt in Beast Machines.
Well they didn't actually break-up, they just went through relationship problems cause Silverbolt became an edgy anti-hero & annoyed everyone on the team as a result. Honestly the whole thing would have been more bearable if they looked less ugly. God the Beast Machines designs were hideous. No wonder the toyline flopped.
Dark Scream she had more reason to be ‘evil’ (i.e. being left for dead and being shunned by everyone including the ones you love) than the beast are version (she was evil because she was)
Beast Wars Blackarachnia was evil because of programming... I find that more excusable than being angry and doing terrible things. BW BA didn’t really have much of a choice, and she was the one who decided to break away from it... Animated BA was never redeemed.
I hope Blackarachnia continues to be used for morally conflicted characters, and Airachnid for straight villains, but time will tell. At least the first part seems fairly set!
@Nougatbar, something that Airachnid said to Arcee when they met up again after eons, something about partners being lost wasn’t just to torment Arcee, but I almost caught of regret in her voice as though she herself experienced some sort of tragedy ages ago. She is still straight up psychotic but maybe there is some fragmented of herself that can be reached.
Its a coin toss between BW Black Arachnia and Prime Airachnid. BW gave her layers: deadly, but fiercely independent. And smart enough to keep up with schemers like Tarantulas and Starscream. Prime was ruthless from start to finish. Plus I love Gina Torres portrayal. She came in on a Predator send up and went out on a zombie one.
Not just Tarantulas and Starscream. I rank Blackarachnia as one of the smartest characters in the entire show, second only to Megatron only because he ultimately outmaneuvered her but she was still intelligent enough to piece together what his plans were all along and sought to escape to ensure her own survival.
I think I'll always prefer the Beast Wars version since it's nostalgic for me, and had the most screentime to get to know her. Airachnid's pretty cool too, I LOVE her voice. A shame she never really got a good toy or resolution to her story.
Who ever designed Airachnid needs to get serious props for the genius idea of the name pun and using helicopter blades for her legs in the spiderish alt mode
It's always fun to "love to hate" Blackarachnia, but the starcrossed love story of Beast Wars really gets me. We also root for the demise of Airachnid, but I think her becoming a Terrorcon zombie was her real demise.
Love that you included Airachnid. In my mind, she's always been the Prime version of Blackarachnia, just with a different name. In much the same way that Downshift is the Energon version of Wheeljack with a different name, something you touched upon last time.
I couldn't not! Partly because Airachnid would need to do a LOT more before she'd justify an episode of her own, but the ep would just feel incomplete if I left out the other Decepticon spider-woman!
@@ChrisMcFeely this new female is some one you want to be on your side fighting with you instead of being the enemy against you that will never stop or surrender but there is the love story that fascinates me so I say let it continue on
Laughed at the unexpected referencing of G1-esque Airachnid in Star Trek VS Transformers, where she commented at how Captain Kirk was cute and wanted to keep him as a pet. Yes, seriously. Animated Blackarachnia was my introduction to that character and at that time as a TF noob I was puzzled at this animalistic looking Decepticon. Later research brought me to Beast Wars and now it all made sense. An amazing, spectacular, and sensational episode on the complex web of Blackarachnia.
Ah yes, Blackarachnia, the deadly Widow Spider that's been attracting countless fanboys since October 7, 1996... Possibly even myself... Don't quote me on that. ^^; lol
Nightbird was created by a scientist and wasn't a true Cybertronian, and it is debatable whether she gained sentience when the Decepticons experimented on her. plus she only appeared in one episode. Blackarachnia was a true Cybertronian, she undoubtedly had sentience. she had a major role in both Beast Wars and Beast Machines.
If you ask me, I really like her persona in Animated having her be Elita One and almost seemingly having a bond with Optimus heck it would be cool if we see her relationship with Optimus in a darker toned Transformers series giving a sorta Batman x Catwoman relationship
I would have loved to see an episode or five of prime set in their own version of the shattered glass universe, in which Airachnid is Jack's partner and Arcee is the psychopath.
One of my all times favorites Transformers characters, Blackarachnia is one of the most complex characters the TF universe have give us and when ever she shows up, she is always awesome, I love her equality the same in Beast Wars, Animated and Prime, such and amazing character, and HOPE she can crossover to the big screen if Travis Knight continues his Bumblebee universe as a reboot, I want to see Black Arachnia or Arachnid in that universe.
The Transtech line is so interesting to me in its bizarreness of designs, I wish more concept art existed of it because the ones we know about are a complete quagmire of lines and are barely distinguishable. I really want to see exactly what was envisioned
I remember being told that Beast Wars didn't count as real transformers but seeing how much some of the characters endured and wove themselves into the mythos makes me happy
3:37 I can't get over those eyes. It reminds me of how our old dog looked when his immune system started attacking his eye muscles, until we got medication for it. Except his eyes were also bulging out of his head. Unnerving to say the least
4:23 Damn, those TransTech designs were all amazing; can't believe I'd never seen hers before. It is interesting to note though, how much influence some of those designs would would later have on TF: Prime and the live action films (on which Draxhall also did design work, IIRC).
As a guy with a massive fear of bugs and spider I still love the spider bots of Beast Wars. Tarantulas is still my fav villain bot followed by BW Megatron and G1 Soundwave. I liked her more as a pred working with the Maximal then anything Beast Machines did with her. Okay season three of animated still sounds better then almost anything post it. That said Airachnid might be my fav villain of Prime. I could never really get into Prime's Megatron, but maybe it was cause of a fembot cat fights I give her bonus points. Still I always get a laugh at of her and Silverbolt in BW so got to say that's still my fav version. I hope one day to get a basics on Tarantulas, the bot with the best insane laugh.
I would love to see Airachnid's character taken in a way basically opposite of Overhaul/Leobreaker from Cybertron, a Transformer from a colony of Beast Mode Transformers who changes to a Vehicle Alt-Mode after joining the Decepticons.
God I loved this character, I remember back when Animated was on the air, It was Lockdown and Blackarcnia that I actually got the toys for. God I miss that series, and I wish I could find the figure
Glad we got a video of good old sexy Blackarachnia. :D She truly earned the title of being among the best female characters in the brand as well as being among the best TF characters in general. Her original BW versions is the one version of her that I like the most along with her original seasons 1 and 2 design for obvious reasons. As for Airachnid I honestly see her having more in common with Tarantulas since she shares his same type of sadistic messed up personality traits along with having scientific knowledge that is equally as messed up then with Blackarachnia who's more like Catwoman where despite being a bad girl she's not a horrible monster.
Black Arachnia, Black Arachnia. Does whatever a spider can. Spins a web, any size. Catches Autobots- just like flies. Watch out! Here comes Black Arachnia.
Blackarachnia was my favorite Transformer when I was a kid, maybe it was because she was the only girl, but good god she was awesome; and her romance with Silverbolt (my other favorite) was everything.
While it's nice you gave the real-world reason for her design, it's a shame you didn't mention the heavy implication in the show itself that Tarantulas basically designed her look and her beast mode. Megatron even mildly called him out on it.
I think Blackarachnia's story in BW is so interesting, and a microcosm of one of the main conceits of the series: that Cybertronians don't really choose their factions like a political identity, but rather it is a genetic difference. Pretty sure this draws from the G1 cartoon, where the Quintessons designed the TFs that would eventually become Autobots and Decepticons for different purposes. But then BW goes further and essentially claims that before "birth", a Transformer can be programmed for a specific side. Just an interesting observation. I tend to prefer to more IDW style of faction alignment, where it's pretty much a political choice. But I think there's a lot of potential in following some of the ideas laid out in BW.
I always thought of Arachnid as more of a Lockdown ripoff than Blackarachnia. Both are loners who pretend to ally with the Decepticons, both travel to other planets in search of prey to hunt, and both have a ship full of exotic aliens.
as much as i love black arachnia's story in animated and beast era. I love arachnid more just cause of hoe she was voice acted, and also how much of a genuine threat she was to bots and cons alike
I was wondering if you might mention the TM2 Blackarchnia repaint used as Arcee's Maximal form as a Botcon exclusive. I think that was the first time that "Spider as precognitive" idea was featured (Though Arcess only gained the power to tell when someone was going to sie, which is a bit of a downer all things considered)
I love to see you do video talking about airachnid and black airachnid world from the idw comic. Funny how they seem to enjoy organic nature better than cybertronian nature
Jim Sorenson (author of the Animated guidebooks) has said he thhhhinks these recolours (Inferno is Waspinator with a new head) were more a case of the Animated character designer trying to influence the TF fan club into making exclusive toys years after the fact rather than a literal reflection of what the show would have done with the idea, but we can dream...!
definitely prefer the original from beast wars. I really liked her transmetal 2 form but we only got to see it for like 3 episodes, 2 of which were the finale. I do like her animated design, it's a fun take on her style
She strikes me as being closer to Arachne, the Julia Carpenter version that inspired Spidey's black suit. Operating as a much more fringe character and far less likely to offer allegiance to anyone in particular unless it suits her own ends, and eventually gaining an upgrade (Julia became Madame Web in 2010, replacing the original) that made them considerably more powerful but also took something away from them (Blackarachnia nearly died, Julia went blind).
I love every version of Black Arachnia, she is such a good character. The Black Arachnia from the Transformers Legends Manga is particularly adorable especially in her office attire 7:17. It is hard to unsee her helmet looking like a short Japanese bob cut now!
"why didn't you kill the spider in the bathroom are you attracted to it or something?" is this how we should describe all the fanboys attracted to blackarachnia?
If Airachnid has a million simps, then I am one of them. If Airachnid has ten simps, then I am one of them. If Airachnid has only one simp then that is me. If Airachnid has no simps, then that means I am no longer alive. If the world is against Airachnid, then I am against the world.

I love the Transformers Prime redirect version of Airachnid
Search online for the TFA comic “Trial and Error”. You’ll be super surprised.
Favorite version for me, Airachnid from TFP.
definitely prefer the original from beast wars. I really liked her transmetal 2 form but we only got to see it for like 3 episodes, 2 of which were the finale. I do like her animated design, it's a fun take on her style
8:00 dear Primus, R-C had quite the past didnt she?
"First female transformer toy"
What about G1 Arcee??
Didn't have a toy at that point!
Chris McFeely ouch
Technically she had a prototype toy. But Black Arachnia was the first officially released female Transformers toy.
Blackarachnia was the first female Transformer I ever saw.
I like her 90s animated incarnation it's sexy yet badass
The Transformers answer to Marvel's Black Widow and the Jessica Drew Spider-Woman.
“She wrap Predacons around her little finger.”
What fingers?
I love every version of Black Arachnia, she is such a good character. The Black Arachnia from the Transformers Legends Manga is particularly adorable especially in her office attire 7:17. It is hard to unsee her helmet looking like a short Japanese bob cut now!
Just got my MP-46 Blackaracnia..and yes she is awesome..cant get enough of iy..
Silverbolt and Blackarachnia should be together alway's be together!Hasbro should have never had made her evil again!
Blackarachnia's TransTech design is weird yet interesting. I kind of wish that show was made just to see her.
The original Beast Wars character was my favorite before she became a Maximal.
Even if im good, im still bad
-Blackarachnia, 2018
I thought Arachnid was actually Blackarachnia. Wow, I never notice the name change.
5:47 Nightmare fuel.
"why didn't you kill the spider in the bathroom are you attracted to it or something?" is this how we should describe all the fanboys attracted to blackarachnia?
Spiders are hot
@@LordMegatron-qk2gz You are really messed up!
Well so is I like apples
If Airachnid has a million simps, then I am one of them.
If Airachnid has ten simps, then I am one of them.
If Airachnid has only one simp then that is me.
If Airachnid has no simps, then that means I am no longer alive.
If the world is against Airachnid, then I am against the world.
I just noticed Airachnid's head sculpt. She kind of looks like Malefacent.
I kind of see it, now that you mentioned it.
The legends version is actually cuter than I expected
