About that car design wise i would like it but not the big wheelarches extending to the front. It doesnt look good on small suv.

Great to see more mid-price vehicles in your review Thomas. Also with vehicles ( such as this Kona - and others in future reviews ) that have small engines and displacements be tested in steep/uphill long inclines with 4 passengers on-board or maybe some cargo, just to see and hear how they perform.

Autogefühl bro help is 1.0 120 hp engine are good when climbing up hill? im want to buy kona i dont know what engine i will buy the 1.0 or the 1.6 gasoline
I have tested this 1.0L turbo version in France with Edition #1 trim level. It was packed with good features. But the best part was the driving experience, i felt the same as you while driving it. Spacewise I agree with you at the back a few centimetres more would have been welcomed (I'm 1m84 tall) After the road test, I've been asked how I felt with the dealer. I loudly replied back at her in French: GENIAL! (Amazing!). After that I tried a Jeep Renegade, I loved the look, I couldn't wait for this test... I hated the driving feel, felt awful. So I bought the Kona, after one month wait it will be delivered to me in 4 days. I'm so excited I'm gonna die! Lol. Love your reviews, keep up the good job! Cheers!

Hello, after you are driving the car for a couple of months , if I'm not wrong, what are your thoughts so far? Because I'm thinking of buying 1.0L turbo premium trim level. Is the horsepower enough for driving in the highway? Does it behave well?

As expected it's a pretty honest small crossover. I really wanna see the electric version of this one, even if this small engine seems to be a good one, I'll never buy a new car with an ICE engine again !

Great review of the Kona Thomas. I have been looking forward to this one for a while. Nice to hear your positive comments on driving. I test drove one recently and fully agree how easy it is to drive. But the interior is a slight disappointment, especially compared to my own Hyundai ix35 which has more soft touch plastics. Keep up the great work.
It seems they compromised passenger space in the back for more boot space. Its a nice car but if you're tall its probably a car that will be difficult to be in.
Yes, indeed. Luckily I'm only 175cm and rarely use the back seats. Must take another look at it sometime. :-)

I'm 6-4 which is roughly 193 cm so getting in and out of the back seat of that car would be next to impossible. lol
It's weird, but I would say that there is more space in the rear than you think, but less space in the boot. If you are 6-4 however, yeah I dont think you're going to find any small SUV that fits. We found it the roomiest of all the small SUVs we tried.
This 3 cylinder engine sounds really good!

What an excellent review on on a stylish suv. Love the red and black. Apple car Play great. The fist time I played eyes on the Kona great second car so I can keep the mileage down on the Mercedes. Thanks again Thomas. Nip or two of German stien when I come to Aus.

Please review new Hyundai sante fe 2019
Had mine a month now, and very happy with it. The appearance is very marmite, but I think its cool. You get decent trim even on the mid spec car. It's roomier than it looks (we found it the most spacious of all the small SUVs we tried) but the boot space is meh. OK for everyday use, but not big enough when going on holiday (we're going to have to get a roof rack).
I've averaged 42mpg and thats a mix of long motorway journeys and aroumd town. The 1.0T is quite punchy 0-50mph, but 50-60 it slows down and 60-70 it is quite sluggish.

The car looks good now..I'm just not sure how well the design it will age. By the aspect of those exterior plastic trims I'd say not that well..
Interesting comments about the Kia Stonic, Thomas. I think the Stonic looks a lot better but it sound slike it isnt as good to drive. Also good to see a mid range vehicle tested rather than the most expensive top of the range. The handbrake looks a bit cheap though and maybe could do with a touch of leatherette? Agree about 3 cylinder engines seem to have a more throaty roar than some 4 cylinder models!

This is a nice SUV but I do prefer the Kia Stonic, which is much fresher to my taste but it has not the DCT-7 yet!

Thomas, in English we don't say "how it looks like". "like" goes only with "what". So you can say either "how it looks" or "what it looks like".

Hi @Autogefühl. Thomas, at 8:18 minutes you say that the 2019 Kona has Cruise Control, but from looking at the specs, it appears that Only the EV version has it, not the ICE version. Would you be able to confirm that for us? What do you personally think about such an odd omission? Have you seen that in other vehicles lately? To me, that’s a big con if one drives long distances. What do you think?
pretty sure it had cruise control. Maybe the difference is that only the EV has the _adaptive_ cruise control ?
Autogefühl thanks, Thomas! You are correct. I called Hyundai and they realized that the spec brochure of the Kona mistakenly omitted Cruise Control from the list. They couldn’t tell me whether it was or adaptive or not, but the guy I spoke with thought it was. They thanked me for letting them know that their brochure missed that spec. Thank you so much for your time to respond. 👌🏼

While I like Hyundais, the styling here is busybusybusy, especially all that black plastic. Good review, as usual.
I got my Kona in ultimate trim level, grey exterior, which blends in with the black plastic for a less in your face look. This car is just fun to drive like my other car a Toyota 86. I bought the Kona because I am an avid hiker and snowshoer here in Northern California and the Kona is more hiker friendly.

Fantastic review as usual. But as unusual horrible shorts.
Went to the showroom but came back empty handed. Any trim below ultimate is useless as the exterior black plastic is too big for the car. Front Seats are too short compared to North American cars which I have owned for 30+ years now. HUD only useful on Ultimate as it shows speed + GPS directions. Didn’t do a road test as I found the front seats too short and it hurt my knees (arthrosis) just by sitting in the showroom. Did they design this car for hobbits?

A mix between the Jeep Cherokee and the C4 Cactus, but to be fair.. The Hyundai Kona is better looking compared to the Jeep.

Trims are bad. You can't avoid LED or leather seats and just get electric seats. Also no memory option on electric seats.

Best looking car in its category. Too bad it has terrible engine choices. With a 1.0 engine I am deported to the climbing lane on highways and the 1.6 automatic is way too expensive. Why could not they make 1.6 manual is a mystery for me!
In norwegian "kone" means wife. But when you are saying in norwegian "kone" or "kona" - sounds same :D I'm sure norwegians will have a lot of jokes about this car :D

Hyundai Woman is Hyundai Kona in icelandic so you couldn't ask a salesman 'can i test drive this Kona?' if there is a unknown woman also standing next to one, or ask 'do you want a ride in my kona?' or 'what do you think of my kona?' in Iceland because you'll probably get funny looks. If I was in Portugal I'd rent one from Spain just to answer 'yes it's a Kona'. Excellent review as always and agree with that it's a extremely polarising design and again too busy for my taste.

Hyundai will eventually become a norm in Western cities because of the price and quality....but the company still hasn't grasped the idea of user experience design that Western users want embedded into the car...

I don't like the design 00
1. Kona is a Hawaiian word meaning the dry side of the island, in Portuguese it is a female body part however spelled with a C.
2. Lovely fresh spring colors in Germany for this test ride.....
3. Don't like the big bold black accent plastic parts for the most part, 50% of the size possibly more classy.........
4. I am anxious to view the Kona Electric review, hopefully sometine soon but at over 30,ooo USD, still the numbers do not work for most of us all working class on this vehicle either sadly...............
5. YES THE FUEL IS LESS COSTLY and lots cleaner but sadly total outO pocket expence per mile is the real number to comaper for the working man/woman..........

Terrible looking car. It looks like it could have been a good design, but they have ruined it.
This has to be one of the ugliest cars I've ever seen. By the way this time around they actually stole design queues from Citroen. Of course only done much worse
