Hyundai Kona 1.0 122 hp (ENG) - Test Drive and Review

- Hyundai Kona is yet another crossover on the verge of B and C segment. You think KIA Stonic or Volkswagen T-Roc look modern? Hyundai Kona has even more sharp lines and creases. In the front it has not just two, but six lights. LED day running lights, LED headlights, and fog lights. And two reflectors. In the back Kona gets LED tail lamps.
Hyundai Kona is powered by 1-litre 3-cylinder engine producing 122 hp, or a 1.6 4-cylinder 177 hp. The former works with a 6-speed manual, the latter with a 7-speed dual clutch transmission. The more powerful version has AWD, the 1.0 model is FWD. This test Hyundai Kona is a FWD 1.0. It’s the top Premium trim, which means you have to pay extra only for paint, black roof, orange bits of trim and sat nav, which will set you back less than 27 thousand euro. This means couple less, than VW T-Roc, both with comparable engine and spec.

Great review as usual.
They revealed the all electric version of the Kona recently. Hope you will be able to review it soon.
Thanks.
Electric cars are not big sellers in Poland, so I don't know if Hyundai will import Kona EV (let alone order one for the press fleet).
they shouldve removed the bottom lights from both back and front. It would look a lot nicer
uuuuhm i dont know!
I just like to listen and watch your reviews every friday night when weekend is allready started
: )
I like it overall, I wouldn't buy it. I dont hate it, i just would like for the fender cladding to be separate from the signal/reflector lights would look awesome. And the black top fin/wing/spoiler combo could have been cleaner. It's okay the mid gen refresh will fix all this im sure... oh crap and that Chrome strip above the license plate is a no no and finally would it be too much to ask for a exhaust pipe
In Portugal is KAUAI, because the name KONA is offensive here!!!!
What does it mean? :-)
Cona is the word for the woman's sex, and the word kona is pronounced the same. For many years the Opel Ascona came to Portugal with the name of Opel 1604 !!
Women in Norway are kona
don't worry, kona means "dying" in Polish :)
@@MarekDrives do you recommend that car or no? My parents looking this car.
VERY NICE VIDEO. GREETINGS FROM GREECE.
Thanks for visiting!

nice coffee mug.......
Great review, Marek - I like all the new safety systmes, but all the bloody bonging and bleeping would drive me insane very quickly.
Hi Marek.
I checked your review for Mazda CX3 and in that video you were complaining about the old nokia vibrations for lane assistance (that you prefer the beeping instead). Now, in this video I noticed that you prefer that the old nokia vibrations instead of the beeping. Please make up your mind and tells us your opinion or is this a nature of journalist's job to find something to complain about? In this case, it is understandable. By the way, amazing review, I really like it.
He just has problem with Hyundai cars, when there is nothing else to complain about Hyundai cars he complains they smell.
OT I've test driven this car, it is above the average in every way. the compain I have is the size and choice of engines. if it was 10cm bigger it could get more leg room for taller passangers in the back and maybe a bit bigger trunk. also they should have put a 1.4 140hp engine, this 1.0 is small, 1.6 is too much.
+Auto Wiewiorka CX-3 didn't have vibrating steering wheel. It was a buzzing sound coming from the speakers.
Thanks for the detailed review. May I know the fuel consumption of 7l/100km is because you drive the car enthusiastically? Or more of a green driving style? On highway or mostly city?

Is it me or new SUV with manual h-shifter are so damn rare?
Depends where you live. Pretty much standard in Europe.
Oh really? i thought they stopped making those around 2010~ here in Canada all i saw was auto SUV's until i see that ad on TV of this one,i was like "wait..what?" lol
I North America they have special classes teaching how to drive a manual. In Europe automatic is still a luxury in mass market car segment.
but wht about the performance in the city and highway?
nice :)
How are any of these better then Juke(ok infotainment kinds sucks on juke), Kaptur or C4 cactus that have been out for years? And especially compared to the Cactus as it is really cheap to buy, and even cheaper to run thanks to it's light weight?
My main problem with C4 Cactus are the seats. Too soft, no lumbar support. Also fit&finish is cheap. And I suppose price reflects that.
Cactus is undoubtably cheap, but it is a similar car to Kona. C3 Aircross has many of cactus problems solved for just a little bit more money(and is based on a new platform unlike Cactus which is basically a C3 from 2002 with new infotainment and body panels). Kona can not cost nearly twice as much as those cars. It does not offer anything more for that kind of a price difference. I'm not sure if they have fixed the seats in refreshed Cactus, but they managed to ruin the outside so...
What should you say is the best in the small suv section ?
I love C3 Aircross and Isuzu Ignis, but that does not necessarily make them best in class :)
KIA Niro is a sensible choice.
2WD or AWD a better choice, still same modells with AWD ?
I drove a T-Roc the other day and it was .... nice, I guess, but I think it needs to be specced really high, to be what it's intended to be.
Is there a small crossover which isn't offensively average or has a modicum of drivability and practicality??
As far as I'm concerned all superminis and supermini-based crossovers are somehow flawed.
is the 1.0 120 hp engine good when climbing up hill?
Not really.
Marek Drives thank you sir im going to buy kona. but it still can go up in the hill? i mean i always drive more in the city. i go up in the hill only when vication you think 1.0 120 hp engine is fit for me?
@@joeldecastro5380 go for it
Nope. You can get a honda fit for $17,500....and it will be great!
I think Hyundai overdid it designwise.
27 grand you have got to be kidding!!!!
Spend 3 more and get a basic jaguar e Pace
Come to think of it, yes.
And it gets more expensive, if you go with 1.6 DCT AWD.
@@MarekDrives Its 17000€ now! luxury+ edition.
I would never buy it at current prices.
1.0L, isn't that a lawn mower engine?
ugly car
This is the typical car for the bling-bling generation. Tutto fumo niente arrosto.
VORSICHT SEHR SCHLECHTE LACKQUALITÄT!!!!
Hondai kona looks like Mazda cx3 and Citreon c4 cactus had a baby... lol copy paste design...
Dark plastics on sides look horrible, worst car design this year probably, so 1989
it looks like Mazda cx3 and Citroen c4 cactus have a baby... lol
My friend has one and it looks fine inside/out and is fun to drive.. i am always amazed by far away yt comments without seeing something for real ^^
The CX-3 is really great either
They can buy and drive this overpriced piece of plastic themselves.
Awful exterior :)
The name is fine the car is offensive
ko means Korean na means me I'm Korean just incase you were curious about the meaning behind that name
The fact that its a Jeep Cherokee and Subaru Crosstrek ripoff is even more offensive.
I wonder what kind of people are prone to buy this ugly toy. Really a lazy kona... showing off its useless 18 inch tyres. The manufacturer should have first checked what kona means. Any child can google it.
i like value for money........not design for sure......
Nice effort from Hyundai, but it is not even close as cool as Citroën.
