What about dead languages? If someone came up to you and spoke Akkadian as good as we can reconstruct it, would that count? Even though our knowledge is pretty advanced, it is not the language they spoke 2600 years ago. On the other side the point could be made that while it may not be „true Akkadian“ it could be counted as „todays Akkadian“.

Wouter, I hope u read this. Why don’t you do a video, and even sell a course , on how you actually learn so many languages at different levels. You can even give us the sentences. I understand different languages - English, Chinese, Cantonese, Min Nan dialect at a high level. I am exposing myself to the Romans languages now . But I know it’s really not that easy to speak so many languages at a high level. If u will do that a lot of people will be keen to hear what u have to say.😅

So, what counts as a language? I'm from Germany, so dutch and "Plattdeutsch"(low-German) are closer than low-German and Bavarian... There are a lot of Germanic based languages and idioms... Swiss-German is regarded as an own language, Austrian is an idiom (it's really close to Bavarian)...
