@@mzamudio well the manuals just require a little oiling once in awhile like all typewriters including yours. But if you have problems with your electric motor and cant find one. That thing will be useless. Whereas a manual will never have that problem. I like your typewriter I had one it was great till the motor died. Till then just oil the moving parts with some sewing machine oil and it will last along time more hopefully.
Of the Typewriters Smith Corona is the easiest to fix in my opinion and you don't need a repair shop They made so many of these and because these are half electric and half mechanical the part are plentiful never ending really, but also it doesn't matter if you have a 12, Galaxy, 120, or 220 power return and anything in between the parts are interchangeable. The design on the guts the internal design has been the same from 1930s all the way up to the early 90s. And thankfully the electric motor was used by the Kodak Carousel 600/650/700 /&750 series lol now they made even more of those than the Typewriter so you now have endless electric motors. So there is no reason to be able to maintain these yourself.
Typewriters are great. I found a 1961 Swissa Junior typewriter in lovely 2 tone green in a dumpster last year. Took it home, cleaned it up, oiled all the linkages, it works beautifully. Thankfully the ribbon was still in it. I call it The Rescue Typewriter. Love it.
I know it's 2023 (almost over!) But I love the old fashioned yet classy appearance that typewriters give off on a sheet of paper! I'm a passionate baker/maker so this seems like a great investment to have my recipes written down, each sheet looking neat as a pin!
I saved a 1951 Olympia SM-3 typewriter from being thrown away. Payed around $70 for it and fixed it up. Works like a charm, and I almost use it on a daily basis for school believe it or not. Somethings I think analog is here to stay!
Love the idea of using one. Seems much more readily at hand than firing up the laptop and printing. I do a lot of song writing and as a result of not backing things up I loose so many ideas and even full songs.
I just got a Brother L10 plus 3. I absolutely adore the way it thwaps the paper. Omg, its sooo satisfying. The power! Mmmmmm Yours is a a bit more aestheticly appealing than mine though. Mine looks pretty good though, its from the 70s so its not super ugly like something from the 90s haha. Not sure what happened with appliances and stuff. Whyd they stop making them look good? Modern stuff looks ok but its all the same and never exciting. Great video!
Here's a typewriter vlog of mine you might enjoy (trying to get one repaired, getting one on loan from a cool stationery shop in the meantime, and finally removing her...) : ruclips.net/video/V6rOsEDgKO4/видео.htmlsi=VTDRQlIxD6TZ934q
It's actually a lot cheaper than the office(you have to pay between 75$ to 99$ depending on the plan you get)you have to purchase it if you buy your laptop at a department store.its only free if a school/workplace sends you a computer
This is my typewriter, There are many like it but this one is mine. My typewriter is my best friend. It is my life. I must master my typewriter as I must master my life. I must turn in my copy before he turns in his. My typewriter are the defenders of truth We are the masters of those who try to silence us. So be it until free speech is truly free.
Where do you get the ink? Im trying to get my old one up and running whenever I find it in storage, and just hoping to get some tips on how to use them right
I have a non electric one, i think its a silverette II. And i dont think its as loud ( its still loud but the clicks are mechanical ) and there is an actual bell in it somewhere 😂
The thing is, atleast with my typewriter, it's very old so to you have to press down really hard just for the ink to be able to show, and it's extremely loud
The main big roller where you feed the paper into is made of rubber and has probably hardened over time which is why typing is so loud. As for the ink, if you’re having problems with a new ribbon that’s something else but see if your ribbon is just dried out or old. Ribbons should also self-reverse via an eyelet that catches on the ribbon mechanism.
One thing I would hate about typewriters is having to know how to spell everything and having to black out all my mistakes. I can definitely see the use in removing the printer step from a process though. Definitely not as obsolete as people make them out to be.
You may know this now but if its too loud, it means you platend (spelling escapes me right now, but the black cylinder that gives paper its support and allows the type face something to hit,) is too dry and you'll start to cause damage to either or both the type face and or platend itself. Try to soften the blow with double or tripple up on the paper. Also when people buy these, you should buy a working duplicate machine for the parts. Store the secound one with the platend removed and the paper cylinder lock off so they're not clamped together in storage. And remove the belts so they wont dry rot that shape and lock the pulleys and motor up. thanks for reading.
Ey! Welcome to the hobby! They're great for breaking apart writing blocks and are just awesome to use and work with. I got into collecting them during the pandemic and they're awesome! (Also yea, printers suck so much, especially in ink costs. Typewriters are way superior and will last longer too!)
They're a lot of fun when you dont actually have to use them for important/tedious/work stuff. Lots of people are getting into typewriters right now because theyre fun to use, fun to play with. Theyre old enough that young people are becoming interested in them. To us youngins, these things are a marvel of engineering and tactility. The loud thwap of the type bar, the powerful carriage return, the delightful bell, the ability to make a loud, powerful, sensational, physical action from nothing but the light touch of a key- several times in a second (if its electric, which mine is and i love it), all of that combining to imprint a physical manifestation of your thoughts and feelings onto a page that you can keep and touch or give to someone else. Pretty amazing if you ask me We grew up with computers. They're of course marvelous too, but not especially exciting to most young people, at least, not the typing part. Im 30 by the way and ive been calling myself a youngster and we all agree that i count as a youngster lol.
@@Elleaf1 cant remember last time i saw a typewriter😂 i mean if you are passionate about typewritets sure its your thing but lets not pretend it's a common thing or even practical.
It's very practical if you have a mechanical one. Mine has saved me a multiple times when I needed something typed up without power and didn't want to spend the ridiculous fees at the school library to print something out. Plus it's great for creative writing because there's no distractions with it.@@piellamp
Had that same model years ago. I prefer the non electric models now. There arent any repair shops anymore.
Nice!! Are you suggesting that the non-electrical models are less maintenance? Curious to know. Haven't had to do anything to this one yet.

great story. thanks for your service in saving a typewriter!!!
If you ever want a new ribbon, they make them still. About 5 bucks on ebay.
The typing sound jumpscared me smh 😂
be glad we don't live together lol

Omg the printer one is such a good point!
Only the inkjet have several issues. I have a laser printers that can print 2000 pages with a single toner (that cost 10 euros) and zero problems
Save points during a zombie apocalypse.
I grew up with them and I still use one.
I have close to 50 typewriters, more if you count the parts machines I have tucked away. I love them so much!
I'd love to have one because I loves it's look and sound. I remember try to type random scribble with this back then.
I just got this exact one from a thrift store and I’m having fun trying to learn how to use it 😊
I have the same (it's my Vancouver typewriter, I live in Québec the rest of the time.) My main one is an IBM Selectric II.
IBM Selectric is one of the coolest typewriters ever
I bought a manual! It's the best thing ever

I also love typewriters ❤, they are like mechanical keyboard for me 😂
I have that typewriter and it is way too loud for me. Fun to use though! I still have it - maybe I’ll sell it.
I have one just like your from Alaska, got it on a cruise.
I agree with the printer part. They suck.
If I could, I would get myself a Typewriter.
This is a really cute typewriter.
Awesome!!! 😊
Thanks! 😄
I really wanna know how you re-ink a type writer

I'm not exactly sure. Haven't had to do this yet, but I'm sure you can find it on ebay.
I grew up with that make and model typewriter. I think I still have it somewhere. My handwriting stinks, so I typed a lot of assignments.
I'd like a dot matrix printer.

Electric typewriter?
Try A Laser Printer
Do you know that typing sound sure travels through the neighbourhood. Be considered!!!
Why is it electric though?
I think the reason typewriters are invented is because people are sick and tired of writing with pens a lot.
where can I get a typewriter for free?
FOR FREE??? LUCKY
