15:05 -ish, couldn't you have played that 8 since it was trump? Can you play trump suit whenever you want? That would have gotten you 4 paw prints, which collects that one gem.
Like in many trump-based card games (including The Crew), you can only play trump if you are out of the led suit. So since Peter still had star cards, he couldn't play trump there.
