Thanks Lloyd for the follow up. Already purchased my Trail Talons based off your first quick review. They have performed really well in very muddy conditions here in the UK with superior grip in those wet and boggy fields. Plus found 15% off discount code so were only £110. A bargain!
I bought a pair of Trail Talons as my first Inov8 shoe not least because of the new toe box as I have wide feet with high arches. I really liked them having done a long run on the mixed terrain of the Surrey Hills in the Gould weather of Storm Darragh. My only issue is the heel cup feels quite low so lock in at the back is not quite as secure as I’m used to with Brooks but overall very happy with them.
No problems with the youtube algorithm here. Never miss your vids. Thanks for sharing the longrun info on the trail talon! I bought the roadfly based on your review and am loving it.
Thanks for the update Loyd! I think these will fit perfectly into my collection as a mud/bog shoe alongside my more cushioned SpeedGoat 5s for firmer trails.
I think I might be using the for the first half of Northern Traverse. def will be taking it on a recce next year. I am just sad about the colour ways lols! I think Inov8 can def do better IMO
Recce'd Coverack - Portleven and Pendeen - St Ives this weekend. Definitely a mixed bag but plenty of mud that's for sure! I do think I'm leaning towards the Hoka Tecton x3s for the full thing though for the sole reason of that gaitor! I wouldn't really consider Pedeen to St Ives as technical though, it's slow but nothing that takes too much thought to navigate.
It really comes down to what you’re use to running on I suppose. I can assure you it feels pretty technical after 70 miles in your legs and it’s dark! 🤪
I bought a pair a couple of weeks ago but ran with the Inov8 MudTalon’s over that Zennor section on the Lighthouse Marathon. Can’t decide on the TrailTalon’s or MudTalon’s for my Arc50 attempt, but I like the shoe a lot!
I ran the first Arc 100 in La Sportiva Bushido’s. I wouldn’t consider doing it in Mudtalons, there’s not enough muddy sections to justify the deep lugs, and too much hardpack/rock
I’d definitely recommend going up half a size. There’s a first impressions video featuring the INOV8 TRAILTALON on the channel and there’s a lot more information about the show in that video 👍 Glad you enjoyed the review and thanks for watching 🙏
I haven’t tried the Speed version unfortunately Matt. I actually said in the video that the TrailTalon would be a good shoe choice for the Arc of Attrition, it would definitely work as an ultra trail shoe 👍
hi, great insights 👌 you tested both the trailtalon and trailfly , what are the differences beside the luggs? how does the run feeling differs? wish you a nice evening
They are very similar feeling shoes if I’m honest. The TrailTalon gives you a bit more underfoot Cushing and protection. The Trailflys are a bit lighter and that makes them feel a bit more responsive. Hope this helps and thanks for watching 🙏🙂
@ thx for your answers. bought the trailfly with a nice discount for 72€ 😉 to compliment my mudtalon speed and trailfly speed with a bit more cushion. i am very curious for the upcoming trailfly max
I can't remember if you have tried the Mudtalon, but wonder if the Trailtalon is more stable? I love the Mudtalon Speed but the Mudtalon becomes to unstable in terrain
I have the Mudtalon, Mudtalon Speed and the Trail Talon. Trail talon is a lot more stable than the Mudtalon Speed but a similar platform to the standard Mudtalon. Both pairs of Mudtalons haven't left the cupboard since the Trail talons arrived as they are very nearly as good in the mud but so so much better on rock. Hope that helps.
@@jansommerlund5497the Mudtalon speeds are super nimble but very narrow at the midfoot and heel so personally I find them very twitchy on rocky ground. The Trailtalons are a broader platform and for me feel more stable. 👍
What are your race shoes now? It used to be the Merrell Peak Agility 5s, which are my favorite, so I'm curious if you still wear those for races or have you moved onto something else?
The numbers reference the weight so the 235 is a more stripped back version, less cushioning and underfoot protection. The 235 and the 290 are both old models now the new TrailTalon has been released 👍
Hi. Is the grip significantly different from the mudtalon please? I mean, are they noticeably grippier on wet rock, and also noticeably less good in deep mud? thanks
As a fellow paddle footed individual the new Inov8 shape is perfect for me. Probably as wide as an Altra (in the wide fit). One of the few shoes that fit me well.
The new INOV8 shoes have good width in the toe box but I’d definitely recommend going up half a size Mark. There’s a first impressions video featuring the TRAILTALON, there’s more details in that video 👍
These shoes sound like a bit of a winner for a rural British winter! 👌🏽
It’s definitely a good winter shoe option in the UK 👍🙂

Thanks Loyd another great video only three weeks and ill be running over them hills take care
Love the review Loyd.
Thought we would need a comparison video the the Exodus Ultra and AP5, but I think you already answered that question. Thanks R

@Run4Adventure ha yes that i don't doubt!

Picked a pair up last week. Not tried them yet.
Great video again. I saw you earlier when I stopped to let you and Liga cross. Hope you're having a good day ☺️
Thanks Tim, glad you enjoyed the video! Thanks for letting us cross the road also, I’d just got a cheeky eggnog latte 😀
@@Run4Adventure Nice. Gotta be done. Haven't tried that one 😋
@@Run4Adventure Starbucks? Love their eggnog latte!
@@RE71476AD Definitely Starbucks! Cake in a cup 😋
Look interesting Loyd.
Any plans to test Trabuco Max 4s?
Not at the moment Paul but I’ll see what I can do 👍🙂
Width is fine. They are a bit loose in the ankle which I have never had before.
Hey, great review.. Do they fit true to size?
I’d definitely recommend going up half a size. There’s a first impressions video featuring the INOV8 TRAILTALON on the channel and there’s a lot more information about the show in that video 👍 Glad you enjoyed the review and thanks for watching 🙏
How would this stack up as an ultra shoe?
Have you been able to compare it to the trailtalon speed version?
I haven’t tried the Speed version unfortunately Matt. I actually said in the video that the TrailTalon would be a good shoe choice for the Arc of Attrition, it would definitely work as an ultra trail shoe 👍
hi, great insights 👌 you tested both the trailtalon and trailfly , what are the differences beside the luggs? how does the run feeling differs? wish you a nice evening
Trailfly has 4mm lugs
Trailtalon has 6mm lugs
@ thx, i know that. i asked about the difference beside the lugs. cushion, upper, flexpoint of the shoe, how they roll threw the running gaitcycle ,
They are very similar feeling shoes if I’m honest. The TrailTalon gives you a bit more underfoot Cushing and protection. The Trailflys are a bit lighter and that makes them feel a bit more responsive. Hope this helps and thanks for watching 🙏🙂

@@dangr-1 It definitely helps. But I don't understand that you find Mudtalon Speed unstable? I find it very solid and stable
I’ve only tested out the MUDTALON Speed unfortunately so it’s hard to say 🤔

I’d still probably go for the Merrell Agility Peak 5’s in a long race, it’s a great shoe for me 👍🙂
@Run4Adventure nice. I just ordered another pair. They had a sale going on, half off. Couldn't resist.
@@robynroamsoutdoors That’s a bargain! Early Christmas present 🎁
Hey Loyd, What is the difference between Inov8 trailtalon and Numbers 290 and 235?🤔🤗
The numbers reference the weight so the 235 is a more stripped back version, less cushioning and underfoot protection. The 235 and the 290 are both old models now the new TrailTalon has been released 👍
To confuse even more, the Trailtalon 235 and 290 are basically the new Trailfly.
The old Roclite shoes are the new Trailtalons.
Hi. Is the grip significantly different from the mudtalon please? I mean, are they noticeably grippier on wet rock, and also noticeably less good in deep mud? thanks
I have both and the Trail Talons are much much better on wet rock and only slightly worse in thick mud. Trail Talon is a brilliant all rounder.
I agree with the comment, the TrailTalon is a great all rounder 👍
@@Run4Adventure Thank you both.
Loyd how deep are the lugs ?
6mm
6mm lugs! There’s a first impressions video on the channel that has a lot more information about the TRAILTALON 👍
Good to see that comment gone Loyd
What comment? 🤔
Loyd hi.....do they fit true to size and are they narrow-ish ?
