LADY GAGA ADDS TO BUSY ALBUM RELEASE WEEK WITH H&M STORE OPENING IN NEW YORK
Lady Gaga continued her busy album release week in New York Wednesday (13 NOV. 2013), helping to open a new H&M flagship store in New York's Times Square.
The singer arrived on top of a double decker bus much to the delight of fans lined up for hours in the cold to catch a glimpse.
Gaga, who appropriately wore an H&M catsuit that she painted with splashes of color, said the passion of her fans never fails to amaze her.
"It's such an honor and so sweet," she said. "They wait outside my apartment and they're always just there for me. Some of the fans when I was finishing the album I locked myself in the studio for a whole month to finish the record, I just wanted to make it better and better and better. Some fans slept outside for the entire month in the alleyway outside in Los Angeles and even though it was warmer it's just still such a dedication so just seeing them today it reminds me why I do what I do."
She said she was game to attend the H&M opening because they've never collaborated with an artist before in this way and would sell her new album "Artpop."
"It's just everything that I'm about and it's a total honor to be walking around the store and seeing everybody that's here. I mean it's so, so great. If you look around there's like there's Gaga stuff everywhere."
At midnight, the singer emerged from inside the store and helped cut the ribbon for its grand opening. People outside were then allowed in to begin shopping.
The store appearance is just one of many for the star.
To kick off the release of "Artpop," the entertainer, never known for understatement, has been omnipresent.
She began with a huge release party Sunday where she debuted Volantis, billed as the "world's first flying dress." She floated about 6 feet above the floor before performing at the event, streamed live on Vevo.
The next day, she opened pop-up "Artpop" stores in New York and Los Angeles, where Gaga-related merchandise was sold, and she was one of the main honorees at Glamour's Women of the Year ceremony.
This weekend, she's scheduled to tackle hosting and performance duties on NBC's "Saturday Night Live."
"I just wanted to, you know really have a wonderful week and really do justice for the album and all the hard work that we did making it," explained Gaga of the publicity push.
"I've been writing this album for two years so we wanted to do it big and with the art rave that I threw it was so exciting because it was really an independent event the House of Gaga threw and you know working with Jeff Koons I felt that it was really important that we honor and give back to the artist. Somebody said to me yesterday that they felt like it was community service that we were doing, because we were really celebrating all the club kids and art culture in New York. I thought that was a funny way of looking at it because that's really all that I care about is introducing young, exciting minds to the world so we've just have been having a great time celebrating music and innovation, fashion, music, technology, art. I'm just happy to be here."
"Artpop," Gaga's fourth full-length album, is now in stores.
