    FYI..... THIS MODIFICATION DIDN'T HELP THE TURNING ON THE POWER BOAT RACER BUT WILL WORK ON OTHER RC BOATS OF THIS SIZE.

    Bought this lil ripper for my son. Gonna be a blast running my gieco 37 with him while he runs the 17 🤙🏼 Love your videos of the boat upgrades 👍🏼 Cheers mate 🤙🏼

    Nice work Big B, this boat really needs this. it's very twitchy even with a bigger battery pushed forward. Can't wait to see the running video, bet it runs well now.

      Well I just tested the turn fins & they didn't work as expected, so I will be redesigning the turn fins/Trim tabs set up

    Nice vedio. It's really a cost-saving Diy. Sometimes its hard to find trim pads and turn fins for a small hull like this.

      Yes I agree. You can find replacement parts for some of the cheap rtr China boats, but fit may be tight on the power boat transom

    Very nice DIY project Big B!. I retrofitted trim tabs and turn fins from a Recoil 17 on my Powerboat, but truthfully they didn't make a difference. I think it's because the tabs and fins were too small. I then tried installing a shim behind the outboard mount to adjust the prop angle in an attempt to keep the bow in the water (run more wet) but the the drive train ended up binding, which surprised me because I thought the universal joint would allow a little angle adjustment, but it doesn't. I hope you have better luck than I did.
    I ended up scrapping the boat and used the outboard on a DIY project where I used a one piece, .098 flex cable and 1/8" prop shaft instead of the stock, 3-piece straight drive shaft, prop shaft and universal joint. The one piece flex shaft worked extremely well and I was able to trim the outboard to my liking. I hope that your DIY trim tab/turn fins help, but I have a feeling your going to have to trim the outboard in order to make any kind of positive improvement. Can't wait to see more. Wishing the Boat Gang a safe and happy 4th of July!

      Wow I can't believe the recoil 17 turn fins didn't hold her down in a corner. If that's the case then the strut/rudder is hanging off the transom so far that it's actually sweeping the back of the boat out causing the "skip" ? Hmmmmm. Interesting
      Very good to know thanks for the info gman. 👍 huge help.

      @@IRONCLADRC It's very possible, but I honestly believe that the boat's "twitchy" attitude on the water is caused by the hull itself - it's just too narrow. That's why I commented on a previous video that I think the boat is going to need oversized turn fins in order to corner with any kind of consistency. If anyone can find a solution to the Powerboat 17's handling issues it's you Big B :)

    • @georgegonzalez9281
      @georgegonzalez9281 2 года назад

      Replying to myself - man I must be bored!
      If you do try to convert to a flex shaft, your going to run into a problem. The Powerboat 17 has an oversized stuffing tube with bearings for the straight propeller shaft to spin on. If you do manage to get the stuffing tube out of the boat it's gonna leave a giant hole in the transom - much to big of a diameter for a small 1/4" stuffing tube. Just something to ponder over.

      @@georgegonzalez9281 I just ran the boat your 100% right the turn fins didn't help at all. Lol. Maybe I'll throw the SonicWall trlurnfins on lol.

    • @georgegonzalez9281
      @georgegonzalez9281 2 года назад

      @@IRONCLADRC Now your talking! The boat will look very out of scale with humongous turn fins, but I think it's justified. Either that or come up with a way to trim the prop angle. or possibly add weight to the bow - who knows. I ended up adding weight to the bow and running the boat on 2S instead of 3S. It was a little easier to drive, but not by much. Personally I think it's the worst handling boat that ProBoat has ever produced. They should have made the Powerboat at least 26 inches in length and used a real outboard motor. Not that would be something :)

    Wanna turn left and right? Try a center "skag" just a bit south of the boats center.

    • @IRONCLADRC
      @IRONCLADRC  2 года назад

      I was actually thinking about doing that but I've read that a skeg will keep the boat straight & doesn't really he'll in a turn? Idk I may Try it just to see what happens?

  • @SteveLane61

    That's such a cool idea and really clever piece of work Big B. Will come in really useful because I need to add some trim tabs and turn fins to the boat I just built with an outboard.
    What gauge/thickness aluminium did you use bro?

    • @IRONCLADRC
      @IRONCLADRC  2 года назад +1

      The aluminum I used is kinda thin I think it's 20 or 22 gage? I'd go A bit thicker with your "quirky" outboard build.

    I have some questions. I have a
    1125 mm long and 380 mm wide empty fiberglass boat. I got it for free from a guy who moved to a smaller house amd couldt afford the space. He allso gave me a couple of ruder setups. The largest one fitting the best to the boat that i got was a dual rudder one propeller setup. Each rudder is 140 mm. Is that enought rudder. And can i prooel the boat whith two nitro engines. a counter klockwise and one klockwise. I have not so much experiance whit rc boats. But i have some whit nitro engines. But whould the rudder and two engines be enought to propel such a large rc boat whit a decent soeed and decent turn radius?

    • @IRONCLADRC
      @IRONCLADRC  2 года назад +1

      What type of hull is it? Mono catamaran?
      I'm not to familiar with nitro motors that being said I would think that a twin nitro on a 1124mm boat should be perfect. Or you could use a small gas engine. If it were my boat I'd go with a 56 series motor and like 300a speed control.

    • @meckarelis3235
      @meckarelis3235 2 года назад

      @@IRONCLADRC it is a mono hull. Has actually been un used for atleast 30 years. Has a wierd history to it. But i like mechanical stuff and have thought of a design to take 2 servo input. The stearing servo allso linked to two nitro engines. So the outher propeller gets more thrust in the turns. Just a thought. Have a little cad file done on it. But the whould a dual 140 mm rudder work for such a boat? Each rudder is 140 mm. So 280 mm total.
