My son tried to jam a micro-usb into his Switch and it stopped charging. After looking on RUclips for how to fix it, I came across this video and realized the repair was outside my capabilities. Super fast turnaround (took less than 2 weeks for repair + shipping both ways) and reasonable rates. Big thanks!!!
I was going to try and do this myself, but after seeing how great a job you did in this video, I decided to let you do my sons as well. Thank You so much. It turned out great, and the price was extremely reasonable.
What temps do you have your gun and iron at? I keep seeing lots of different variances but im trying to practice on water damaged switch boards to get practice for not ruining solder pads. Thanks!
Doing a port swap for a customer for the first time been sick so i havent worked on anyones stuff in a week. Just recently swapped a series x hdmi port so this should be no problem.
Hi there can you please tell me the name of the tools that you used and how hot you set the heat please? I’m trying to repair my son’s Nintendo. Thank you very much.
Hi Derek, Great job. I have always struggled with these micro parts...and really need to improve , this was very helpful. I too would like to know what kind of solder station you use. I really like that small tip. Thanks !
What type of solder iron and tip do you use? I have tried a solder station that has smaller tips but the heat stops at the larger part of the tip and always having problems. Thanks
Yes during the removal is fine, but flux makes soldering easier. It keeps the solder from oxidation which allows it to flow more freely while in liquid form.
DAMMIT! Is the sodder stuff actually necessary!? Please tell me no! please!!! I'm short on money and I just want to fix the only game system I have left
Quick question let's say I got a ps5 controller broken but charge port still good can I use that instead of buying another one..I know there pretty cheap but why let good parts go to waste😂😂😂
what kind of flux did you use? can you give a link for where to buy it? also. whats the difference between solder flux and solder paste, if solder paste is made with flux in it, why do you need both?
Solder paste is microscopic solder balls suspended in flux. Extra flux only makes life easier as it prevents oxidation of the solder while it’s melting. www.mobilesentrix.com/mechanic-iphone-cpu-dedicated-soldering-flux-no-225-10cc
bro i’m a kid ain’t no way i’m able to take out parts of my switch i’m jus tryna play with my family 😢😭😭😭 it jus doesn’t charge do i have to do all of that jus for it just charge 😭😭
Because temps and the way you use them with distance and air flow differ from rework station to station. So find what temps work for you. But I’ll start to include more temps etc in my videos because you asked.
@@FIXDPHONES cheers! I had a suuuper hard time getting the port off, I started at around 240, then ended up at 380 still no luck… then I realised my nozzle was way way too restrictive, swapped to a wider one and used 340-360 with decent fan speed and it came off, but unfortunately took a pad from what I assume is Vcc, however thanks to usb c being two sided, the console is now fixed, I just let the client have the repair for free because it isn’t fixed, it just works and imo we both get something out of the deal, he originally was going to sell it to me but I offered to fix it for him first so his kids could get their save files. If he doesn’t want it I’ll just buy it and everyone is happy, I’m just a little less happy lol
Thank you so much! I just used this guide to fix my daughters switch lite after she mangled the port with a micro USB cable 🫣. I melted the plastic inside first replacement and had to desolder and resolder a new one on. A bit tricky and and not really for beginners to soldering. I've built a few guitar pedals before so not a total newbie but my first time doing anything this tiny. 🫨
That's a ridiculously long and intricate process for a damn charge port swap.
welcome to properly soldering small components!
Its actually super reasonable and efficient the trick with hot air underneath is a game changer for me personally

@@FIXDPHONESsent you a request . My sons switch is having the same issue as the video lol
I got 1 minute into the video and realized I wasnt going to be changing my USB port on my Nintendo
Same😂

What temp is your heat gun on
Went to your site and put in a request! Hoping and praying I can get my kids switches fixed before Christmas.
Thank you. I need to fix my son's and this video was great!

What's with the annoying alarm beep?
Thank you for confirming my decision on just throwing it in the trash lol
I'm actually thinking of doing the same thing
I Need This Replaced For My Daughter. Will Definitely Fill Out The Form !
Did you end up getting it fixed? I sent in a request today.
Trying this myself! What temp do you keep your Soldering Iron on when you’re removing the old port?
06:00 damn brave letting the iron get so close to the battery connector
Good video wanted to try myself but there wasnt enough detail on how to open the zip connectors kinda skipped that part straight to removing the cable
Looks like Daddy needs to level up his soldering skills. I don't suppose I can just hotwire a good ol' fashioned DC jack to a couple of power rails?
Hello! thanks for the video - I am attempting to repair my nephews switch lite! Id like to know what soder paste are you using?
I too, would like to know
I'm getting ready to do the same thing to my Nintendo switch. At what temp do you run your soldering iron and heat gun?
Soldering iron around 350c and I use 450-500c on the port but control the airflow for the removal. You can lower it for the install
thank you
Amazing video, could you tell me what kind of microscope do you use please ?
I use a variety of microscopes, are you wanting to know which one with the camera or for general use?
Hi Derek, Great job. I have always struggled with these micro parts...and really need to improve , this was very helpful. I too would like to know what kind of solder station you use. I really like that small tip. Thanks !
here's the station I use in the video www.mobilesentrix.com/t12-11-digital-smart-lead-free-soldering-station
Thanks, I just ordered one,,,,felt like I was applying for security clearance for the Govt.....LOL..I used your reference...
Good video. You just got a new subscriber.
Thanks for subbing
Im stuck on getting the rest of the solder out of the holes and dont have access to solder paste. Is there some other technique you could reccomend?
Solder suckers are perfect for that step
Using flux, wick, the soldering iron and the heat gun at the same time in the right way makes cleaning out those holes a breeze.
What type of solder iron and tip do you use? I have tried a solder station that has smaller tips but the heat stops at the larger part of the tip and always having problems. Thanks

could I take out the charging port without the flux?
Yes during the removal is fine, but flux makes soldering easier. It keeps the solder from oxidation which allows it to flow more freely while in liquid form.
What do you charge for this?

Hey man i dont have 183°C soldering paste for 8:00 can i just use my 138°C paste?
You can it just isn’t a very strong solder. I’d recommend getting some higher melting solder in the future

DAMMIT! Is the sodder stuff actually necessary!? Please tell me no! please!!! I'm short on money and I just want to fix the only game system I have left
Yes it is. The charge port is soldered directly to the motherboard, which means if it's damaged this is the only solution.
Quick question let's say I got a ps5 controller broken but charge port still good can I use that instead of buying another one..I know there pretty cheap but why let good parts go to waste😂😂😂
No you cannot. @@buddylove86
I feel you i thought this be easier why all this
This is very involved and complicated to do, is there a way to turn on my switch temporarily to facilitate data transfer to a new switch
If you want to swap the battery with a charged one then you might be able to.
how do you keep all the screws so you know how they go back? do you have a screw mat
Yes, I almost always use a magnetic screw mat
how do you remember what goes where lol@@FIXDPHONES

Can I use a standard heat gun for this application?
Yes, just might be hard and it’s better if you can only heat up the section of the logic board that the port is soldered to.
The Wic you used? Is that just copper?
Basically. It’s a copper braid. Brand “goot wick”
I did this replacement now it won't power... Any tips?
It’s possible that you missed something or that it’s the charging ic as well
Did you make sure to reconnect battery wires?
Were you able to find out why?
This is crazy i guess I'm returning my replacement charging ports cause this is too much 😒😟 i thought this be easy smh 🤦🏾
