Great video buddy, welcome to the dark side lol was over the moon when beta was launched. The setting for Item Effects and Convient Effects, it checks if the item/spell has effect then applies it. If it does not it checks CE if there is one there and applies it. Great for covering all your bases. But you can set it to only do item effects or CE don't know why you would but its there. My favourite feature that should be base engine. You are going to really enjoy Midi and all it has to offer. Really is a life saver, for those not comfortable coding. Yes it's intimidating at first but once you understand what it's doing it's by far the most powerful and useful module you will use. The thing with foundry is there is so many ways to achieve the same outcomes with modules, coding, macros, simple coding with sequencer...etc Your videos really break things down and discovering new things. In an easily understandable and sometimes humours way. I can relate to the hours of tinkering.
Thanks. I always wanted to get to Midi-QoL, but like I said, the 3.0 changes sorta delayed a serious look. I'll keep playing and then will show "the solution" I settle with (if I ever settle on a specific solution!).
Hi ClayGolem. TL;DR; your vid is awesome. "..Dice rolling is a big part of..." [~04:40] Tabletop gaming fun at your table. Yes indeed. It is a splendid little thing that is easy to overlook. To grab and throw the dice, to feel the fluttering heartbeat of chance: - will make the roll to succeed in a task is entertaining for everbody at the table. One will somehow remember dice rolls as spectacular game moments becoming goodtime memories for years to come and tell a stories about... "...killing of player characters..." [~23:30] yes without the risk to die the game is less exciting. Of course the GM can just turn up the drama dial-switch. Describe what a gruesome critical wound sorryman the wide got (with the hit that would just have killed him), leaving him crying out oud in pain as... + e.g. the werewolf eats his servered (rolls dice in the background) left arm.... Why let a player just die in an instant when there is lots of time left for him on the battle field to roleplay the terror at hand and engage the rest of the players as well. Make a moment where a player hits zero HP as epic as you like as a GM. Remember a GM controls the flow of time :) ...in every second throbs the heartbeat of eternity.
Absolutely. All the Foundry stuff, the modules, the automation.... all of it should just be in support of the actual RP and fun, either to directly enhance it, or to remove the admin that prevents it. It's what I'm liking about the setup we've currently got going on.
Maybe you, or anyone reading, can help me out a bit. I installed all the modules you're using in this video and checked all the same settings. I'm still not getting auto attacks with Midi QOL. Every time I click attack, I get a message in the chat to roll attack and damage. I've even gone into Midi QOL quicksettings and tried 'Automate everything' and it still don't get auto roll attacks. Is there another setting that needs be configured?
I linked a different video for you in the other comment you made - a more up-to-date one for V12. We're doing a whole series for automation, so if you're in V12, that's definitely going to help you out. ruclips.net/video/qm748ya9MHs/видео.htmlsi=Qq6yMRCx8NoaiNhK
This is a very useful video and exactly the way I want to go with my game! Videos released after this use some of these elements I think and it was hard for me to understand what was going on and why your attack actions were a bit different compared to mine. Thats all getting a bit clearer now. I've still got a way to go, but getting there. Question though: when I cast Shield of Faith I get two instances of Shield of Faith cast upon my cleric. One "Shield of Faith - 100 rounds" and one "Shield of Faith - 600 seconds". (which is the same of course. Only the first one has a source: "Concentrating: Shield of Faith". Any idea what is up there? I pretty much followed your settings. It must be some other mod giving me an extra instance, right?
No where near the computer right now, but your duplicate condition. 1 is the effect of SoF, the other is Concentration effect (for SoF). So they are actually different. The game engine and Midi-QoL have both had updates since that video, so it may look different to mine, even with the same settings.
@@clay_golem Ah, right. Two icons for shield of faith were showing which seemed odd. Especially since I also have the concentration effect. So three effects. But what you are saying makes sense. Thanks! :)
Answered in bit of a rush last night. As you have 3, I suspect that your 2 Concentrations come from different places - the 5e Game engine, and Midi-QoL. Try turning off the Midi-QoL Concentration, and see if that helps. You can always click it back on if it doesn't fix it. Worst case, it'll just track concentration twice, but it should work. I think I need to go over my Midi-QoL settings in a video to show how I have it working with the current 5e game engine and Midi.
@@clay_golem Thank you! :) Yes, I'd already deactived all the mods except the ones you are using in this video. But the double (and later even triple) shield of faith icons remained. I will take a look at your suggestions. Haven't seen it happen with other spells though, so I suspect it is a Shield of Faith adjustment that I maybe even made myself somewhere down the line with all the tinkering. Worst case scenario, it will be an annoying SoF thing, but as I'm trying to understand how all the different mods and systems work together, I'd like to find out what it is that is causing this. I've created a testing group with two of my friends where we discuss your and other videos and try the mods out online. Hopefully that will also help because tinkering on your own will only get you so far I think.
I noticed you are using D&D 5e version 3.0.3. Did you install the beta version of MidiQOL? The current version 11.3.24 does not work with 5e version 3.0.3 Just curious.
An oversight on my part. I should have made that clear that I had installed the Beta version for this video. I'll try and make that clear in the next one.
I'm still having an issue where the Save is being made on the Selected token instead of the Targeted token. kind of an issue for players casting a spell on an enemy and haven't been able to find a fix/setting for it
Well that sucks. So player Targets enemy, casts spell, but PLAYER is prompted to save, not the Target? Is that right? And if so, is it working the other way? Enemy has to save against a spell it casts, instead of the player?
@@clay_golem I figured it out with some testing just now, I'm dumb lol. if I left the Auto check Saves set to Off, it would have this behavior. but if I turned that on with any of the other settings, it worked with the target needing to make the save
I am so glad you are covering this module. Your flow style really works for me! Thanks for taking your time to make these videos!
Thank you for all of this hard work. I've just started running the same campaign so this is super helpful! :D
Exactly why I started this - to help people like you :)

The effects button appearing on spells is contingent on its active effect being setup in the spell config.

Glad you managed to solve it. May of helped if I pointed out I was using the Beta version, and not the "live" version at that time.@@quasxen
I would love more on midi qol.
It'll come in the next few days 😊

That's very kind of you. I don't meet RUclips's requirements to have that option yet. Need to hit that 500 subscriber mark first.
