    I am from Norway and remember the accident very well. It was on the news every single day for several days. I have watched the documentary many times, equally impressed as I was moved by the group of friends who dived in secret to retrieve their deceased friends. The police never opened a case for the illegal diving and no one was charged or convicted. Everyone understood that they wanted to get their friends out. A great video with the production quality of Blue World.

    What an adventure! I appreciate the way you highlighted the safety precautions you were taking, such as doing a test dive to see if you could handle the cold. You do some crazy daredevil dives, but you never encourage people to follow in your footsteps without adequate training and safety policies.

    I watched the documentary with my dad when it came out. I remember him telling me about it and how we should watch it. I never thought BlueWorld would dive it! This is hands down one of my favorite cave dive segments yet, and I love that you explored the dry section of the cave as well. So fascinating!!

    • @BlueWorldTV
      @BlueWorldTV  9 месяцев назад +4

      Thanks Raymond! We had so much fun. The cave itself is really only dangerous in the super deep section. The part we did was not terribly deep (barely more than 100 feet) and spacious. It's just COLD! And going in through the ice adds an element of adventure. We went in the winter because it was more of an adventure to dive through the ice, but we had also heard that the water is clearer. When we arrived, Ina told us that the water is about the same visibility all year around. But it's cold all year around too. It was fun! And I expect to see some cool adventures from your big Hawaii trip!

    So, you have set me another challenge. I am already an Ice Diver. Now after my cave certification, I need to head for the Artic Circle in Norway.... Challenge accepted.

    • @sammoyers905
      @sammoyers905 9 месяцев назад

      @BlueWorldTV Absolutely, I am taking the cave diving slowly and methodically. I even need to redo my Ice Diving certs. I have spent years now in the warm southeast. Plura, as well as the crystal caves, are a goal. At my age, I realize I may not get there, but it is a goal to work towards.

    • @BlueWorldTV
      @BlueWorldTV  9 месяцев назад +1

      They make scrubbers that have syntactic foam insulation if you really want to do long dives in cold water. For a couple hours, the standard scrubber on a sidewinder will last longer than I will. If I had heated undergarments and was prepared to do 4-6 hours in the water, I think you would want the insulated scrubbers.

    I watched that documentary few times. Really moving piece of film. Never thought that you, Jonathan will go there and make a show there. I am glad you did it. What about Orda Cave in Russia> :-)

      As soon as Russia opens up again, I would love to dive Orda.

    If you ever get that chance, I would love to see a video diving Lake Minnewanka in Banff, Alberta. It has an old mining town that was flooded in 1912 when a dam was build downstream. It is also nearby Two Jack Lake, where I got my Open Water license! Not much to see there, really silty, but cool nonetheless. Just something to put on the list. In addition, the Canadian Rockies are always a sight to behold.

    I am so absurdly jealous of your life... Except for that water temperature. I think I'd have to have some kind of hot water circulator in my dry suit. I'm also kinda jealous of the stew after a super cold day outside. That might be one of my favorite things - first few bites of a gumbo/chili/stew after working outside all day in freezing temperature.

    These guys crack me up with there "cold" 34 degree diving,,, well I welcome you to winter diving in the upper Midwest. No joke my 10 year old daughter and I ice dive all the time and we don't use dry suites, 8mil with hood and gloves, that's it. But nowhere near as long as they are under, I'd love to dive this place

      I've been in 29° F water in Antarctica for 40 minutes. That is nothing compared to 34° F for 2+ hours.

    What was that plumbing fitting you were using on your softnoline tub? never thought of doing that would make filling the scrubber easier.

    • @BlueWorldTV
      @BlueWorldTV  9 месяцев назад

      The dive shop did that, so I don't actually know. It is pretty clever!

    Sorry for asking. Im completely a noob.. Before diving what are those little cereal thingys you put on the little container? The things you get from that whitish color dispenser. In the dive prep room?

      That is the chemical which removes carbon dioxide from the breathing mix.

    Jonathan,
    Any considerations on the rebreather 'sorb' in these frigid conditions?

      The scrubber can be less efficient in cold water so you try not to exert yourself too much and don’t plan for the scrubber to last as long as it would in warmer water.

    Very beautiful but to me you guys are superhuman and a different breed. Do you think that the heating suit under the outer suit is effective? How long would it maintain the heat and do you feel it's something that should become more popular and a requirement for diving in freezing temperatures underwater? Excellent video guys 👍🌊🩵🥽

    • @BlueWorldTV
      @BlueWorldTV  9 месяцев назад +1

      The people who do this kind of diving all the time have very effective heated suits. They require a lot of power, so they have to carry some pretty big battery packs.

    • @annb8296
      @annb8296 9 месяцев назад

      @@BlueWorldTV Ah I see how that could be cumbersome perhaps dangerous when maneuvering through different angles. It would be great if some time in the near future a smaller more compact battery pack could be developed. Thanks for your reply 🩷🌸

    Lol. good example.
    I wouldn't suggest such caves for any tourist, only advanced cave divers.
    good thing you had support for the weather conditions might of been alot more extream and or difficult. That plura van look liked it struggled. next time having a truck is more respectful. lesson learned.
    maybe the summer might a better for first timers, and also mentioning to the small town locality that you and a group of people are going to explore the cave and create some sort of
    "in case of emergency" expression that are open to be pre-alerted and ready for particular service reactions.
    thanks jonathan bird for sharing a video of such awesome cave diving places
