“You’ve probably watched my videos. You’ve probably binged them all.” I feel called out. That’s what I did today.

I remember in 2016/2017 I was in an open species group on dA called Enader. The group was new, it was fun and a lot of talented artists joined. I got sucked in through a friend making a super enjoyable OC for the group and I wanted to forge some lore with them togehter.
The group was pretty easy on the rules and lore...at first.
Like physical traits where: they need hooves, a tail of some sort and hip wings and a horn somewhere on their body.
Lore? They where elemental born nature spirits and had a war with humans in the past. Period.
It was so damn much fun and my old Enader is still one of my favourite OC's to this day. But sadly with time the group owner decided to add more restrictions for the physiology - making mosntrous Enaders impossible and only very humanoid ones allowed - and lore, and the new lore was...not very fun for a lot of people.
We had all our own ideas and worldbuilding at this point because there was no world map or anything to reference back at the start and the new restrictions made new designs hard to pass as well as suddenly our own headcanons were not group canon anymore. It was kinda frustrating, mostly becuase you got now extra Exp. Points for canon lore.
That was also the time a LOT of new Steven Universe ARPG groups popped up called Diamond Courts on deviantArt. It was bound to rise and fall with the last two seasons of SU. But the basic idea was you have a leader character in the group a Diamond (normally the group founders Gem OC) or in our Enader Group the first Enader and a court like systhem of subordinates who got roles and a lore place. In Most groups the higher ranks where meant for the admin staff.
Suddenly this was like a canon thing for the Enader group and making up new stuff unfitting to this lore was kinda forbidden in the background stories and art for your own Enader characters.
And on top our previous open, grimm, war strucken lore became kinda cotton candy cutesy (what was sadly bound to the art style of the group founder of the species) and the dark lore tone felt like it vanished even though it was said it was still there. It was frustrating tbh. And a lot of people left. The group got less and less traction and withing half a year the group closed and the owner even deactivated the group and their personal dA account.
So yeah planning lore AHEAD and setting a tone for the group is so unbelievable important for any kind of species or ARPG group if you want more lore.

8:20 I normally see money being made via adopts and commissions. I have my own OG species in the works and it kinda just sprung from “what if I made like super cool like super fucking cool adopts” and while I’m not done (and a lot of my notes are packed up right now) I also draw from mythology and folklore for it

This is so informative and honestly I am going to really enjoy working on my own original species, and thanks to you, I have a good idea of how to proceed! Amazing content!

so to make my original species i need to get more popular so my species don't get stolen?

That might help with people taking your stuff more seriously or showing you more respect as an artist because the furry fandom kind of works like a highschool at times. But I don't think popularity is necessary for a species other than like anything on the net, growing a presence will expose what you make to more people. Like how some people find my Twitter through my youtube, popularity or a presence makes you more discoverable. But there will always be people who steal your characters not much you can do to avoid it.

Just a question, why is 25 mins too long for a tip video? I’ve seen many art tip videos and they’re much longer /gen

25 isn't too long but this tip series would have been over an hour. I'm going based on my average watch time stats in y I utube.
