    Great video! The start of this video was me until I realized that I control my next steps and my happiness! At one point I was planning to be a full-time expat but living a seasonal lifestyle in another country is a better fit for me going forward. I can't wait to visit Barbados. Future snowbird here lol 😂

    Thanks for this Jae - another fantastic video. I will be in Barbados next year August for 6 weeks on a scouting trip where i will be staying in different parts of the island to determine which area resonates with me. Im on my way to retiring in the next 2 years with the intention of initially being a seasonal visitor (like you) and then making permanent roots. You are a real inspiration and i am so thankful ❤

      I really don’t know about that to be honest. I would just say Barbados has a variety of people, locals I have found in general to be very helpful and polite. You get occasional laid back attitude which can be frustrating, but often we have to slow down too. The women I have met are all wonderful, expats and locals alike. Many are married already but there are some single and from the questions on my livestream, there are people looking for great friendships and relationships. I always say to join the facebook groups and communities and you will meet people. I will eventually host get togethers of the Expat Barbados community as more people start to travel there the same time as me. Hope that helps Harry. 🙂☀️🏝️

      Hi Melrose. Thank you for watching and your feedback. Barbados Blackpats is a good one for information and connecting with people who are living there, particularly black expats and locals. Remember Jamila from my live? It’s her group.

    Hi Jae. What's your view of the Sunset Crest area in Holetown?

    • @expatbarbados-jaeophelia
      @expatbarbados-jaeophelia  10 месяцев назад

      Hi Dovy, the area for me is very well located as it’s within walking distance to beaches, shops, restaurants, supermarkets, rum bars, clubs. Holetown is for me like a tourist hub so it has everything geared to tourists. Access to buses, so easy coastal road access to Bridgetown and Speightstown. If you hired a car, the area in front of it has a popular gas station which sells food, as well as other products tourists might need, but beware prices. You would have to be strategic in terms of spending as if you didn’t know you could end up spending a lot as the main supermarket is Massey and it’s expensive. I do like Massy for their salad bar if you want a quick meal. You would have to shop smart. Look for local vendors. There are locals selling great food from vans, which is popular and well priced. Are you thinking a short holiday or longer stay? Also some of the restaurants are very expensive but again look for the offers, phone beforehand, ask as sometimes they have offers at lunchtime. I think you would be happy with the area. I would make sure you check out trip advisor for reviews specific to your accommodation. I know they have these little bungalows in sunset crest which in past were like mini retirement areas. They are privately owned and therefore it all depends on the upkeep and your expectations. Also check if they come with access to a pool because in the past they had access to one of the restaurants beach club, but not sure if that has changed. Holetown is a pretty area, lots to walk to and see, has designer shops but also some access to better priced options for eating etc. There is also a health center in that area too. So it is well set up for longer stays. But I would be looking for the nearest Jordan’s supermarket to do my shopping, much better prices. I would shop at Massey occasionally and look for local cheaper brands. Also the local vendors etc if I was staying on a long seasonal stay. Hope that helps🏝️☀️🙂

      @@expatbarbados-jaeophelia Thank you! I am going to take time to digest your observations. It sounds like a great subject for a video even for new visitors to Barbados like myself. Probably the first time we'd spend a couple of weeks....

    Hi Jae!. Airbnb options in Sunset Crest look rather appealing. What do you think about it as an alternative to a boutique hotel?

    • @expatbarbados-jaeophelia
      @expatbarbados-jaeophelia  9 месяцев назад

      If you can find the right place at the right place for you, it’s worth exploring the Airbnbs. But it really depends on what you like and what you are expecting from your time there. Is it a holiday experience or is it a home from home experience for a month or so but in a beautiful Caribbean island or a mixture? Hope that helps! 🏝️☀️

      @@expatbarbados-jaeophelia Great point. I guess for the first visit as little responsibility as possible would probably be in favor of a hotel visit on Holetown.

    Hello Jae,
    I very much liked this video.
    I was wondering if you know of any british citizens going to Barbados (for say 6 months), who bring a dog for 6 months, and how do they arrange that?
    Thanks,
    Paul

    • @paulshannon1211
      @paulshannon1211 9 месяцев назад

      Hi Jae,
      Thank you for your reply. I have decided that bringing my dog is not really an option, due to the costs involved. I have made some initial inquiries, and the one way airline cost I have been given is £1348.
      Therefore, there is no point in pursuing my inquiry any further.
      Regards,
      Paul
