It’s hard not to hear Herb Alpert and the TJB on this arrangement, but Harry James shows off his trumpet skills that were always very impressive! The Tijuana Brass had a monster hit album, Whipped Cream & Other Delights in 1965, and this became a hit single. Don’t forget though, The Beatles sang the song on their first studio album (Please Please Me) released in the UK in March of 1963.
Sure, he showed off his instrumental mastery but he had to pick up Alpert's arrangement, in spite of the mockery he made of him about his limited technique. That says a lot about pop and jazz approach to music. Alpert (or whoever) came up with the walking bass and the syncopated phrases: it was little but it made all of the difference.

He was only 50 here, though he looked older. Great player.
