It was one of mine to I still watch it now, someone actually uploaded it on RUclips. My mom had recorded it off TV when I was little right after the mouse and his child another favourite, my sister and I wore that tape out lol.
I grew up with it too. I mean, it's easy to make fun of seventies acid trips, but honestly I always found it held pretty profound messages that everything has a point and such. And the music, nothing needs to be said, it's amazing. The creative visuals paired to the songs are top notch too. It encouraged me to embrace art and be okay with thinking outside the box when I wanted without being ashamed.
This was one of my favorite films. I'm glad my parents showed me this as a kid. It helped stimulate my imagination as a child and made me the artist I am today.
holy crap enough with the lion king comments.... i saw this movie for the first time on Tubi Tv and LOVED it!!! so happy that you chose to review it since nobody on youtube seems to be talking about it!!! some interesting things i’d like to “point” out. (1) character designs : it seems like this movie served as inspiration to both pendleton ward and tim burton as arrow the dog and the king more than closely resemble the ice king and zero the ghost dog respectively. (2) voice work : oblio and the boy being told the store were voiced by mike lookinland who played bobby on the brady bunch. ringo starr was the voice of the father telling the story (at least in the version i saw) (3) story : while the “alice in wonderland” parallels are prevalent, the story more closely resembled “the little prince” with the characters more or less being metaphors for the kind of people you meet in life, unlike “alice in wonderland” which was more about the imaginative fantasy land. “point” being that “the point” and “the little prince” have more of a “point” to them... oh my god you got me doing it now... 😖
Oh my god!! Yes!! The lion king is up next!!! My favorite Disney movie of all time!! 😄 Prediction Story: 10/10 Animation: 10/10 Characters: 10/10 The songs: 10/10 Final: Solid 10/10 of course with the seal of approval!!!
I found the LP for this on a used record shop yesterday and grabbed it. It was so brilliant to hear that version and see the comic included with it. This and Brave Little Toaster were probably my favorite animated features as a kid
as an artist who uses micron pens for details and who's sibling does animation and cartooning including me myself am pretty amazed by all the animation and colors even if it is limited. the animation is so beautiful to me, they voice's and music are wonderful and the main characters are from a story read by the father and son. are minds can create anything we can imagine, our art changes and takes on new forms and ideas.

I grew up watching this on a recorder vhs tape. My mom recorded it off of Disney channel. This version had Alan Thicke as the dad. I was an odd kid so I loved it, especially after my mom explained what it was real saying.
Not only School House Rock, Alice in Wonderland, Dr. Seuss and the Yellow Submarine, but also Fritz the Cat, Witch's Night Out and the animated segments of Sesame Street.
Whoa! What an unexpected surprise. And the timing couldn’t be better. Both the animated and live action Lion King films in the same month. Definitely a 10/10 for the animated one.
To be honest, I was never familiar without Harry Nielsen until looking up the Point. Can't believe he got high to come up with this concept. I personally would not want to get high to come up with ideas. I take inspiration from dreams, video games, other films and shows, real-life events, my home country, people I met and holidays abroad.
i had a VHS of this when i was a kid, but for the longest time i couldn't remember the name of this movie, so thank you for reviewing one of my childhood memories!
Holy crap! I completely forgot about this movie! I vaguely remembered the visuals from my childhood, so I clicked on this video! Thank you for helping me realize what those visuals came from!
I haven't thought of this film in so long! I vaguely remember seeing this during a Saturday morning block along with Really Rosie (which I hope you get to someday) and The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe. The style intrigued me especially when compared to my usual Saturday morning fare (Muppet Babies, Mighty Max, and Shirt Tails).
Awesome! The Lion King is next! That is one of my favorite Disney movies! And perfect timing too since we not only have the remake coming out soon, but also because the original turned 25 years old a couple of weeks ago. I can't wait for you to review the original! Here's to hoping it gets a 10/10!
This music is in my heart forever. The movie was a staple of my childhood. It's definitely Yellow Submarine-ish, but I also think about the Puff the Magic Dragon cartoons. It's definitely what I like to call a Sunday afternoon movie; something you can throw on and lay on the couch, maybe catching a nap in the quiet bits. Definitely something I'll put on when I'm getting through a cold for some comfort, nostalgia, and good vibes.
Our 100th animated movie review is one of the greatest animated features of time, The Lion King! The king is in the 100 spot for are 100th episode of Animat’s Classic Reviews!
The one thing I prominently remember is hearing Beatles Drummer and the original Thomas and Friends narrator himself, Ringo Starr. Very fitting, since it does have some Swinging 60s vibes from the likes of the Beatles. Much like Yellow Submarine.
WOW!!!! YOUR DOING MY FAVORITE MOVIE OF ALL TIME NEXT!!!!!!!!! OF COURSE IT GETS A 10/10 WITH A HUGE SEAL OF APPROVAL!!!!!!!! IT’S ALSO SURPRISING SINCE THE LIVE-ACTION VERSION IS ALMOST HERE. HERES HOPING ANOTHER 10/10.🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Hello Animat, it's good to see you reviewing old movies, there are actually 2 movies I truly enjoy that I have YET to see any reviews for, The Devil vs Daniel Mouse Globehunters: An Around The World in 80 days Adventure It would be wonderful if you reviewed these two wonderful movies, the first brings back memories of me with my grandfather, while the second brings back good childhood memories!
Been looking for this for ever since youtube became a thing. Saw this when I was 7 didn't even remember the name of it and did not know that Ringo narrated it.
The dad in this movie is just like me trying to introduce a family friend's daughter to the Smurfs, Rainbow Brite, and the Care Bears with no success. 😂😂 The kid who voiced the Count's son sounded very familiar to me. The actor who voices the Count's son is voiced by Buddy Foster who is older brother of Jodie Foster. Buddy Foster also played Mike on the show Mayberry R.F.D. (a spinoff of the Andy Griffith Show).
Never heard of this one, but thanks for pointing this out. And since I just got the point, I'll now be lion around for your next classic review! Just make me a cub sandwich and I'll order it to go... 'cause THERE IT GOES!
Slight correction on Nilsson: While he did write multiple great songs like "One" (furthered in popularity by Three Dog Night's cover), "Everybody's Talkin'" is a Fred Neil song.
Oh my god, I've loved this movie since I was a kid, I can't believe you're finally reviewing it. I don't care if you hate it, I'm just glad to see somebody finally review it.
First off: Oooh, this gonna be good. Also, the show itself it pretty good, and weird. You don't see a lot of shows in this Wolf/Murakami animation style anymore, and probably for good reasons: the '90s raising the bar on TV animation quality, and the fact that the Wolf/Murakami art style was primarily popular around the '60s and '70s. Of course, if you're going for another Wolf/Murakami thing that isn't Sesame Street or Puff the Magic Dragon, I might (might, mind you) recommend Free to Be... You and Me. (The dot-dot-dot is literally part of the title.)
The lesson: everything has a point somewhere. I don't just mean the point addressed in the movie either. Even the most non-sensical things have something sane to show if that makes sense
@@MrPollitogatito Thanks, I've been following his Classic Reviews ever since the first classic review with My Neighbor Totoro, since then, I've been updating a wordpad document of his classic reviews to keep track of how many there are.

You may want to revise this review by checking out MVD Rewind's 'The Ultimate Edition' of The Point. To me, the previous DVD is superior in quality. Yet the bonus insight on Harry Nilsson is extensive. I'd be interested to see your take on it.
I'm surprised you didn't mention Without You when talking about Harry Nilsson's hits since it was his biggest hit in the US. Also how come you didn't talk about the songs? Interestingly this came out 2 years before Schoolhouse Rock.
When I saw this video in my feed, I was SO excited. "The Point" is one of my childhood favorites. I even had a dog named Arrow.

This was one of my favorite films. I'm glad my parents showed me this as a kid. It helped stimulate my imagination as a child and made me the artist I am today.
Why does this movie’s art style look like something straight out of Schoolhouse Rock? It’s kinda neat.
Kinda of perfect timing for The Lion King, the live action one is coming out soon.
Maybe he can do a double review!
Only one classic review per month remember.
I love that movie but I don't know about the remake.

I have a head that ends in a point, pointy pointy pointy, it ends in a point.
Does anyone actually have any history with this cartoon? I mean all the comments are just people talking about the Lion King review.

I have vague memories of this.
Isn’t this movie animated by the same guy who animated the famous tootsie pop commercial

Finally a classic review of the lion King! And in time for a 25th anniversary
My suggestion for the next classic review on Flatland.
It's a coincidence AniMat reviewed both the original Aladdin and The Lion King the same year as the live action remakes of both of those movies.
Remember seeing this at the Blockbuster Video back then.
