  • Trek with me to Essen and visit the Zoll Verein - a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the self-proclaimed “World’s Most Beautiful Coal Mine”!
Not sure how many coal mines are in the beauty contest business, but she’s got my vote 😉
In addition, I get to say “Ich habe Essen in Essen gegessen” 🍔🍽️🌆
I’m past the halfway point of my CBYX year, which also means I’ve been here longer than the time I was an au pair. Only 4 more months to go! I’m trying to make every weekend count while I’m here. Have any reccomendations for day/weekend trips? Comment below!
    Till next time,
    Lauren

At the Zeche Zollverein we also have every 6 months an exhibition of modern art, the CAR which means "Contemporary Art Ruhr". Just my 2 cents to your nice vid 😉

This looks like the kind of thing we would visit on vacation. In fact, your sister and I went to the design museum in Paris in 2017. Keep them coming!

Essen is in an (originally) Low German (Platt) speaking area (Low Franconian, not Low German in the narrow sense). There to eat is "eten", not "essen". The name of the city originated from the original name "Astnide" that means "locality in the east".

    Gelsenkirchen, not a tourist destination?
Every two weeks, plenty of tourist come to Gelsenkirchen and go to watch a Football match "auf Schalke"!
