Hey bro, in having trouble getting the 14mm bolt off, any recommendations on how to remove it man?
So, I did this on my daughter’s corolla 4 months ago. She called me today freaking out because her battery light was flashing and the power cable to the alternator melted where it connects. The little gray cap melted completely away. Any thoughts? The only other thing I did was disconnect, clean and replace any grounds I found.

Just told my girl this is probably the most helpful part replacement video I've ever watched. Many thanks man
I appreciate the awesome comment and thank you for watching!

Concise, no BS, great instructions!! Thank you for posting 🤘🏼
No problem thanks for commenting.
All in under 5 minutes, great this shouldn't take me any longer than an hour
😂😂
Thank you SO MUCH! I watched this a few times and after that the job was super easy! I love how you just show what needs to get done without all the extra b.s.
Yes, I dislike how to videos that is not straight to the point. Thanks for watching!
Wish you would have included you installing the new alternator. Helpful otherwise but tough to just “do it backwards” when you’re a mechanical dummy like me. Good video tho thanks
Because of this video I was able to change an alternator for the first time! 2012 Corolla. Thanks!!!!!
Wow! Didn't look too difficult. If you can replace it with one hand, I could surely replace it with two hands. 🙂
Definitely wasn’t hard at all, you can do it!
Thank you for this! I need to replace the alternator on my 2010 Corolla. I'm a life long mechanic (just not automotive), and wanted to see what I was getting into since I've never done any work under the hood of a Corolla. This video was exactly what I needed. Thanks again!
No problem thanks for the comment!
Alternator went to shit the other night while I was out. I was able to drive it home with power steering turning off/back on occasionally. Had a relative following me in case I stalled in the cold. Already dreading taking it to a dealership (which I would have to have towed) and paying for a week’s car rental (cheapest which would be $350 for 6 days), not to mention being insanely overcharged for labor, I decided to look up videos about replacing the alternator. Came across this less than 5 min video and was shocked at how straight forward it was. Dealership had the alternator in stock. Just replaced my alternator today thanks to your video. The power issues and whining sound completely gone after installing the alternator. Thank you for sharing the knowledge brother!
That’s awesome. Sorry for the late reply but I’m glad you came across my video! Thanks for watching ✌️
Power steering malfunctioning eh? That’s exactly what happened to me the other day, seems the alternator failing has a knack for doing that (makes sense since the power steering needs power of course).
Equipment needed:
1. Flathead
2. Ratchet
3. 10mm nut
4. 12mm nut
5. 14mm nut
Thank you
Followed the instructions for my 2009 Corolla, got it done. The hard part was aligning the alternator into its pivot mount holes to get the shoulder bolt to thread in. An Allen Wrench in the bolt hole probing the hole to determine the necessary adjustment worked. Good How-To video.
Thank you and glad you found this video useful!
removed alternator completely , was able to put it back however having difficulty putting back the 14 bolt, ( long screw) i feel like im turning it and turning it and it stays in the same position and doesnt go in. anybody else having this issue?
Was dreading paying for an alternator replacement. Thanks to you I now khow easy it is to do myself. 💯
Awesome!
@@BrianBalatbat update. I was already pretty mechanically inclined but never changed an alternator. Followed the video step by step and changed it in 10 minutes. Got my car back on the road. Big thanks!
Looks very easy. I'm gunna have to try it out today for my 2013 corolla.
Awesome, not too bad of a job. Thx for watching ✌️
@@BrianBalatbat I did it man. Your video helped tremendously. I didn't need to take it to a mechanic. Saved $!

Very clear and precise. Thank you so much, this made my life SOOOO much easier😊

Perfect. Everything went exactly as described. Non-car guy, about 90 minutes for me. Thanks!!
How did you loose in the alternator bolt?
Your video was really helpful and I was able to change my part with your steps. Thank you !

Simple quick and reliable thanks for this video bro
No problem 👍
@brianbalatbat thank you sir, so much for the helpful video. It was a blessing from God. May GOD bless you!
No problem and you as well 🤙
Here because my battery light just came on in my 2010 😭
Hey at least you can fix it by watching this video 😀
Thank you , Man !!
Good refresher.
Appreciate the Vid !!
Great video 👍
👊
This video actually helps, the wire removal without breaking anything is real important !
Hey. The battery icon was showing on my sister's car. So I went ahead and change the battery as it was my first culprit as it's 8yrs old and acid is coming out of it a little. After changing the battery the icon is stull in the dash board. Is it safe to assume now that it's the alternator? Thanks
Yes, definitely an alternator issue. Replace it and it should fix it.
@@BrianBalatbat thank you so much for your response. Really helpful and straightforward video.
Thanks man. I know very little about cars and wasn’t able to get to work today because of my alternator. Arched this video and did it in my driveway!
No problem man! I’m glad my video helped you. 🤘
Straight to the point, no BS. Thank you sir!
I forgot to unhook the battery before unhooking the alternator with the keys out of the car.. Am I 🤬'd?
You should be ok.
Thanks for making this video. But why after installing it squealed a lot?
Your belt is most likely too loose
I'm not that much of a mechanic your video help me out thank you very much
No problem glad this video helped you
My 2010 Rolla’s alternator just went out after 163K miles. I’ll be utilizing this awesome tutorial to get her back on the road, thank you!
Loosen the belt tensioner first before you remove the alternator.
I was thinking, "How many people are going to struggle with that belt?" Lol
Don’t know if anyone is here but that 14mm is kicking my ass any tips
The other end of that bolt sticks out on the other side. Try spraying its threads (close to the alternator) with your favorite penetrating oil. If you still encounter excessive resistance, tighten the bolt back in a bit, then loosen a bit, adding a little more spray if necessary and repeating this until the bolt comes out. You do not want that bolf to snap off.
Thank you very much, u save my day ❤
Good video. Straight to the point
The clip at 1:00, what's the secret to getting the piece disconnected?
There’s a plastic tab that you lift up and wiggle the whole thing until it slides off. They get stuck sometimes cause of dirt…etc..
I was just wondering how much would you charge on a job like this
This is a 20 min job for me without recording so I’d say around $100 - $120
@@BrianBalatbat thank you I really appreciate it
You saved me at least 1000 bucks fixed it in the parking lot runs good as new!
Thanks you sir 👍
Really helpful, just wish my 14mm would come out like the one on the vid fml
Very helpful video !
Your camera man reminded me of me helping my dad 😂😂😂, kudos to him.
I need to do this to my cousins car. Doesn't look too difficult. Alternator is like $200 at auto parts.
I have the top two bolts off and the tensioner thingy but the belt isn’t any looser just trying to under how that works for the belt
1:00 could not see the tab you moved to get the cord out of the way of the bolt. Anyone know?
Awesome vid! About to replace mine on 2010 Corolla. How much/what brand did you use? IDK if the $150 one on autozone is as good as the $350 one?
Thank you, my cousin bought the used alternator from a local junk yard. But if you’re going to buy the $150 from Autozone they’re usually refurbished, get it tested first before you buy it. $350 is a brand new one and shouldn’t have any issues.
You sound like pedro pastcal
Who is that lol
I was able to remove everything except for that long bolt at the bottom. I'll have to get a short rachect like the one you have.
Very helpful. Thank you.
No problem 👊
2009 matrix does not have that adjustable belt tensioner on the alternator so this video didn’t help me
Man I'm going crazy, that 14 mm nut won't budge and I've soaked it with WD-40. Any suggestions?

Best video you wanna watch no bs straight to the job
Is it the same setup for the 2009 Corolla xrs 2.4 and the 1.8? I am replacing my alternator on my 2009 Corolla xrs.
Yes it should be the same set up.
Good video straight to the point! No rambling on and on.
Thank you for your comment and sorry for the late reply.
@@BrianBalatbat It's all good.
At 0:25, remove terminal cover; I had the hardest time trying to figure that out without breaking. Other videos glossed over the detail. Thanks for saving me.
No problem I’m glad my video helped you.
I’m having an issue with the last 14 mm bolt that goes through the whole alternator. It’s so corroded that when I try to loosen it it doesn’t budge at all. I used pb blaster too! After two hours of trying to get it out I gave up and reassembled the alternator as it’s still working but on its way out. Any suggestions?
Sorry for the late reply, did you end up getting it out?
Good video bro straight to the point and not too much explanation. Now gotta give it a try.
We’re you able to fix it?

No, thank you for posting. I think I can change my alternator now
No problem! You got this!
Short vid. Great job
How tight do you tighten the belt?
Should be about half an inch of play.
Glad you mentioned this. II followed the video and am worried it is too loose but maybe half and inch of play isnt crazy tight. @@BrianBalatbat
These guys are so talented! Fantastic and thank you!!!
Thanks and no problem!
Very easy to follow video, thank you for that!
Not as complicated as I thought, but can't get the dang bottom bolt undone, it's absolutely hulked on!
Have you tried a breaker bar on it?

What what the part number of the alternator if you can remember
I don’t remember but it was a remanufactured alternator from advance auto .
wha should i do if the nut has rusted and i cannot screw it off?
Spray some dw40 and see if it helps.
Everything was straight to the point and well recorded
Thank you!
Thanks - made the process easy
Sweet! Glad this video helped.
Solid vid bro! Thanks!

I try to 🙌
Thx for the video

Thank You!!

Great vid!

Thanks looks like any weekend expert can nock out in a few minutes thanks to you! I wonder how much I saved NOT taking it to the shop?
In south Florida, around $500 dollars, they wanted around $600 before tax and disposal fees, I replace one a few months ago for around $115 with all my discounts, now have to do it again, since the alternator is not charging, at least it's under warranty
DO NOT MAKE THE SAME MISTAKE I MADE-MARK THE TENSIONER BOLT BEFORE YOU MESS WITH IT!!!!
I didn’t and no matter how little or much I tightened it, it would squeak so bad or be to lose. Mark your shit and if it’s an old belt consider replacing it 👍
I was thinking the same thing. A quick shot of spray paint, or use your wife's nail polish to mark it out
Do you recommend replacing the belt ?
hi was wondering will a 2009 alternator corolla fit a 2012 corolla? was gonna go to pick in pull
It should fit as long as it’s the same engine size.
This is great! Thank you for being straight to the point!🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Thanks for the video! Very useful.
