  • This video uses two lights to compare Ivoclar's Bluephase Meter II with Ultradent's MiniGig. As you can see, the Bluephase Meter II is an accurate power meter. Note that measuring the radiant power from the curing light is a much better way than reporting the irradiance due to the vagaries of determining the active light tip area (irradiance= power/area)

Hello, thank you for putting out these videos. I just finished my PhD and was pleased to reference you a number of times.
I have a question though. I used the Bluephase to measure the output of my LCU, which was a BASE290 from BA International. It's dual peak. I was getting different readings for every subsequent push of the button. Do you know why that might have happened?

No idea, was it in ramp mode, were you measuring power or irradiance?

@@CuringLights hello, thanks so much for replying.
It wasn't in ramp mode, it was in full power mode (3000 mW/cm^2 peak), and I was primarily measuring irradiance.
I measured over 200 consecutive 5 second cycles, each at full power, with a pre-set (by the LCU) rest between cycles of 5 seconds. Irradiance dropped off sharply for the first dozen cycles (from memory) before the drop was a few tens of mW/cm^2. The battery only lasted long enough to measure 200 cures. Total drop was about 10%
