Daniel, i think for us as subscribers you keep this channel so real. it’s so refreshing to hear you talk about whiskey like how most of us enjoy it. Sure there are many other channels that do crazy things and i enjoy those too from time to time but I really love what you’d done with this. Keep it up!
32° in Northern Idaho 8am. Watching my roofing crew rip off a massive roof on a remote mountain home. Coffee, deer, wild turkeys, construction and whiskey videos.
I am 49. I was a beer drinker most of my life. I started drinking liquor during the pandemic simply because it was convenient. I started with Scotch. Then Bourbon. Your channel was one of the many channels I looked to for advice on good whiskey to try. I appreciate the videos you guys have made because it allowed me to learn about whiskey without having to randomly buy shit off the shelf. Also, I am drinking Knob Creek 12 at the moment when I clicked on this video. Cheers, friend!
I know just the feeling your describing. I love to bass fish and it's been a long time dream of mine to meet pro angler Gerald Swindle and 2 yrs ago I got that chance at the Knoxville Bass Master. It was a moment I will never forget.
RUclips has become my primary form of entertainment and education. This channel and many other high quality channels have changed my life and how I learn.
I watch on my phone at work, but tv at home. Likewise, RUclips is my go-to for entertainment. Cut the cord on cable over a decade ago. It’s streaming services occasionally, and RUclips 85% of the time. Also, hello from Ft Wayne!
7 years ago, I started watching your show. Since then, I spent around 24,000 USD on exploring whiskies. The number is still growing strong. Impactful indeed😊.
This is a very interesting dynamic now. It is not really as much about stars now but it is more about connecting to content. Keep making content that impacts people 👍
Thank you for those words of wisdom!!! I watch you guys on my TV as well. You guys are awesome!! I picked up that bottle also and I really enjoyed it!!! Thanks for sharing this!!! I hope they continue to make this bottle for sure!!
Thank you Daniel! We are grateful for you, and we are really glad you have been with us for years! Hope to enjoy your RUclips channel for many years to come and see you again at our next annual meetup/BB. You do have a larger platform than you know, thank you for spreading positivity and encouragement! Hope to see you at the Whiskey Castle again soon!
Besides running into you by chance in a bar somewhere, I'd like you to know that You, Rex, and Brianna have, through your exploration, hi-jinx, and discussions of spirits of all sorts have taught me a lot. Let me say, I needed it! After growing up drinking cheap plastic-bottle booze to get drunk, I'm in a place in life where I can afford to treat myself better and enjoy the spirits I choose to drink. Picking spirits to try is NOT a simple task for the uninitiated, and just having the ability to watch some folks sit around a table and explore the flavors in spirits, and discuss what's good and not good as opposed to cheap and expensive, has made a huge impact on how I truly savor well-made spirits. It's a big deal... I'd rather run into you guys than Brad Pitt any day (though my wife would disagree).
You, Rex, Scott and Bart got me through COVID -- that and my $3500 investment in SMWS in the first quarter of 2020...You guys were my buddies, even though we had never met. Thankfully, I was able to meet 3 of the 4 at the Bastards Ball a few years ago. Appreciate all of you!
The honesty in what you do is the most important thing. You're not an influencer and you don't tell me what to buy or not to buy. You don't trash whiskies when other people do because it's flavour of the month to do so. You also tell us stories and finish words with a k instead of a g which is nice. Keep the k's comin' and my brain will keep knockin' out g's. Cheers Daniel.
Haha love to meet those VLD guys but wacht out for Rowan. I loved to watch in the early days and it was a shock that you read my comment on the video to the public. Ps. Also honoured to do a vpub quiz live with you and Roy. I was already pumped up to do a is it a speyside with Roy and then you showed up. Haha, that made an impact, talking about that. Thanks for that and keeping whisky fun and not snobby. 😉🥃
It’s cool that Ryan F9 was your first thought when you thought of RUclips personalities. But I see you the exact same way. I watch you on my TV, on my phone, you play in my helmet on the way to work some days, I’m a fan, man.
Both You and Rex impacted my journey in Whisk(e)y and also in life and made it fun and exciting and cool! I’ve only visited the Distillery twice and i got Star Struck when I saw Richard, Kyle and Brianna so I didn’t make contact with them only Richard because I went to go pick up a bottle that i had purchased, but Hopefully one day I get to meet you and shake your hand! Cheers! 🥃
Well sir, you've definitely had an impact for me. Ewan Rex both open my eyes to the greater world of whiskey when I was curious. Later you made me wonder if I could do something like this on my own, in my own little way. The hope is always there. Thank you for another great conversation 🥃
To ważny film, który porusza kwestie bycia naprawdę dobrym człowiekiem. Daniel jesteś dla mnie inspiracją i uwielbiam cie słuchać. Najczęściej mówisz mądre i głębokie słowa. Serdecznie cię pozdrawiam i cieszę się że gdzieś tam na drugim końcu świata są fajni, mądrzy ludzie którzy potrafią zainspirować. Najlepszego. Na zdrowie 🤘❤️🔥
Congratulations, you have achieved sentient character status. Also thanks for the heads up on this. Wasn’t even on my radar and I’m not sure if I’ll like it but definitely have to try it. Either this Knob Creek or the Redwood Empire Lost Monarch that another poster mentioned. Both priced within a dollar of one another.
I just realized I use my Letterman references here most, so make of that what you will. One of the last things I took away from when he retired, is wen he said appointment viewing is over. More and more people are watching youtube and netflix rather than network TV, that's where you guys come in ❤
Its Weird that you mentioned the tough Tab Seal on the bottle of Knob-C. The Jim Beam Co. (Beam-Suntory), had to change the formula make-up of that seal. For many years there was a problem of a dry-cracking of that seal. (‘99 to 2006) We actually sent back many bottles to the wholesale dist .Glazer W-D. recall. I also talked to Freddy Noe, who would come visit in Houston. He like eating at Post Oak Grill and I would go meet him for a Lunch & Drink. Beam also held back some juice earmarked for its bottling of Bookers and put it toward the 125th anniv. of Knob Creek. Thats when the mashbill was changed big time. (2016-2018).
Knob Creek is a Jim Beam brand. And Old Overholt is also Beam - and it's nothing but rye. MGP does make a lot of stuff (not just rye whisky) for a lot of people, but no massive distillery with an international presence needs to have someone else make its whisky. And a lot of new distilleries which began by getting their juice from someone else (e.g. Sagamore Spirit, Hard Truth) have been around long enough that they're now bottling their own whisky.
I grabbed a bottle of this and was also surprised how heavy the corn/bourbon influence is on the taste. But then I learned that Knobb Creek Rye is a barely legal Rye with a rumored mash bill of 55% rye, 35% corn, 10% barley. The Knob Creek Bourbon supposedly has a mash bill of 78% corn, 13% rye and 9% barley. So if we do the math based on the 30% bourbon / 70% rye blending claim on the bottle the composite mash bill is 47.9% corn, 42.4% rye and 9.7% barley. Which aligns to what we are tasting with mostly the corn influencing the flavor profile and the rye spice taking backseat.
Left brain vs right brain. Lol. Your point here is so true. Everytime I visit the campus, I'm in awe and y'all are just hanging out and kinda awkward about how nervous we are to talk to you. Over the years it's turned more like visiting old friends and I love you all for that.
Fortnine crossover when? I haven't ridden motorcycles in 15 years and my wife would kill me if I bought one. But Fortnine's videos are entertaining as hell. Kinda like Top Gear / Grand Tour almost but with motorcycles.
I think the BourbonXRye is pretty good, not at all what I was expecting. And it's not a bad price, about $40-45USD. But yeah, opening a Knob Creek bottle... jeez!
For me, i think, if we were to meet in person, it'd be more about me letting you know the impact and the knowledge you've emparted on me from your videos. Once we get past that, I'd probably be picking your brain about nerdy whiskey stuff for as long as you'd let me 😂 idc if you're famous or no one knows you, if I think you have knowledge about something I want to learn about, I want to absorb as much information as I can so I can learn from someone who I know is well-learned on the subject. Which I totally get is 100% about me 😂 though I think you enjoy teaching people as well, so it'd be mutually enjoyable probably? 😅
So, after saying ALL of that, what did you actually think of the blend. Yeah? Nay? Recommend or not? Realizing your impact, I have found many great whiskies based on your recommendations.
At first, I may have been a little hesitant to meet you. However, I quickly realized you're just a fellow nerd who puts his kilt on two legs at a time like everyone else. I've always wondered, how do you wear a kilt AND ride a motorcycle?
I started watching you and Rex in the old vault. It got to be more of just entertainment and less about the real world real whiskey experience. Stopped watching! Been watching you again. Like your review not sure about your new path with your old confetions
Kinda of a political statement here. In a sense, politically speaking, there are bourbon people and there are rye people. Each group is staunch in their beliefs. But, when you are willing to "blend" each and experiment with different "flavors" is when you get to learn how each can work together to create a very "flavorful" experience for all. So, sit down with someone of a different profile and enjoy a good drink and conversation. Remove the wax from your personal bottle and pour out some goodness.
Daniel, i think for us as subscribers you keep this channel so real. it’s so refreshing to hear you talk about whiskey like how most of us enjoy it. Let's meet up in Vancouver and we'll have a drink with Ryan Fortnine!
This episode resonated real close to home for me.
Oh man, I would love that so much
@@WhiskeyVault We have a mutual friend who could make that happen.

RUclips has become my primary form of entertainment and education. This channel and many other high quality channels have changed my life and how I learn.
I have sent many a young man to learn the art of whisky from your channel.

Same!!! I only watch RUclips now. Plenty of things to watch for all of my hobbies, interests, things I want to learn about with the random movie. 🥰👸🏻🥃

I’m really enjoying this channel. It’s impressive how you’re keeping it fresh, interesting and entertaining. I had my doubts when Rex left, good job!
I really dig that bottle. There aren't a lot of every-day bouryes out there.

Hard to overcome the powerful nutty profile of 9yr Knob Creek in blends. I found this out with my own blending experiences.
Its Weird that you mentioned the tough Tab Seal on the bottle of Knob-C. The Jim Beam Co. (Beam-Suntory), had to change the formula make-up of that seal. For many years there was a problem of a dry-cracking of that seal. (‘99 to 2006)

We need a collab with Viva la dirt league now!
The stories are even better than the tasting, bu I enjoy that too.
Does Beam make their own rye? I thought many labels are other peoples rye?

I found the Knob Creek bourbon rye a delightful high rye bourbon.. but not much beyond that.
i just got a 9 year barrel strength 120 proof knob creek thats pretty good..kind your basic bourbon flavors

What is your lasting legacy for the whiskey vault?? Life has really been brutal to me and shown me the fragility of life, how do you carry on????

"This isn't about me. It's about them." Nice. Fame, even RUclips fame, is a weird psychological trick.
So, after saying ALL of that, what did you actually think of the blend. Yeah? Nay? Recommend or not? Realizing your impact, I have found many great whiskies based on your recommendations.
I watch RUclips on the TV. 🙂
What effect does ice have on whiskey and why do some people prefer it that way?
in my left brain, there is nothing right
in my right brain, there is nothing left
Wow. Come to listen to Daniel's stories, and he name drops Ryan Fortnine. Not a crossover that I ever expected to hear. Cheers anyways.
Man, I would pay real money from my own pocket or that crossover. Where we ride motorcycles and I introduce Ryan to whisky :-)
@WhiskeyVault I would also contribute my money to make this happen. Would be such a great video.
I would have to say I would be much more excited to meet you out on the street than I would Brad Pitt or George Clooney
