  • How to Make Your Hibiscus Bloom Again - Here in this video you are going to find my top secret to force Hibiscus to bloom again. Whenever we grow Hibiscus plants in container, fertilizing and watering only not enough. Instead, there is another most important thing that we need to do on a constant basis and that is Pruning. So, if you are wondering how to prune Hibiscus plant, you would find all the answers in this video. Please also note that, pruning only the branches is not enough. We also need to prune the roots. However, if you can upgrade the size of the container, it's okay even if you don't prune the roots.
    Here in this video you are going to see how you can prune your Hibiscus plants - both branches and roots. I have also shown the final result and my plant did an amazing job :-) It bloomed extraordinarily well and I hope you would like it. So, if you expecting lots of blooms on your Hibiscus plants this season, prune your plants now as it's the best time.
    How to know when to prune your Hibiscus plant?
    Ans: If the leaves or the flowers are getting smaller on your Hibiscus plant, it means the plant is rootbound and you need to prune your plant - both branches and roots.
    Good luck and please let me know if you have any questions. Thank you for watching the video :-)

    last year i came home to find a dying hibiscus on the terrace. it barely had few leaves and the stem was very sick. i took it out of the pot and pruned the hell out of it and repotted in a new mix. I was happy to see many blooms on it when i returned this year, it looks the same variety that you have in this video.....but the plant wasn't that bushy, so did some branch pruning and i've got more buds.....

    I have been using the azalea food pellets as hibiscus fall under the same family and it’s 4x the size as last year and I can’t even count how many buds have popped up. Might check into that as well. But mine is planted in front of my house full sun, and I water it everyday and keep an ample supply of food pellets for it. I can’t wait for the buds to open

I’ve found as it gets hotter (in the high 90’s-100 degree temperatures, it will not bloomed unless I water it at least every other-if not every day.

      @raj kumar, Thank you so so much for the feedback, appreciate it. The best time to prune roots is when the plant is not growing actively. This is for all plants and this is the safe way. If you want to do, you can definitely do it now. Because Hibiscus plants are going to produce new leaves from Spring onwards. Most of my Hibiscus plants are almost sleeping now..ha ha..waiting for the Spring & Rainy season :-)

I tried replanting with garden soil, vermicompost and cocopeat mix in place of the pure garden soil and used stick fertilizer also. Time to time, mealy bugs treatment also still, no flowering. Last week 3 buds popped but fell down easily. Can you suggest what to do?

    • @GardeningUpbeat
      @GardeningUpbeat  4 года назад +1

      @Anupam S, Yah, it happened with me too :-) Millions of comments are being getting posted every seconds..so, it happens sometimes I think :-) Don't know how they handle all the data..LOL My 3 hard disks are almost filled with recordings, photos etc..They are storing data from all over the world, amazing :-)

    • @anupams2945
      @anupams2945 4 года назад +1

      @@GardeningUpbeat Wow .. 3 hard drives full :O. That's a lot! :D.
      Well, Google is rich.. they have loads of big spaces where they have tons of hard drives to store all the data LOL. But yea, it's mind boggling how so much of data gets stored.
      Still, stupid issues like posting of several duplicate comments shouldn't be occurring. Some kind of bug.
      Also, earlier when I used to post comment from mobile, I could use the scroll function to see the comment I was replying to, because for a long comment, you need to see it several times to see what to reply to. But, with the new update, you can no longer see or scroll the comment you are replying to.. if you have to, you have to discard your reply which you were writing. That's really stupid.
      There are several annoyances like these which shouldn't be there on such a big and popular network.

    • @GardeningUpbeat
      @GardeningUpbeat  4 года назад +1

      @Anupam S, Totally agree with you Anupam..look like Google is behind FB when it comes to social media :-( The scroll function is not there..really? That's really wired :-( I am not aware of it as most of the times I use PC. Hope they fix it soon and another 2 fixes they really should do - Notification for nested comment and allowing others to reply on Community.

    • @GardeningUpbeat
      @GardeningUpbeat  4 года назад

      @Vidyasrao rao k, I do at anytime whenever I see I need to treat my plants :-) But, it's a good idea not to prune the roots when the plant is actively growing. Actively growing means, it's already getting all nutrients from the soil. So, if they are not growing well, you can do it now as well :-) Anyway for Hibiscus, Summer is the growing season. Thank you for watching the video :-)

    Hello from Australia. I adore hibiscus. Your video information is excellent. Thank you. My question relates to pesticides. I am very reluctant to use sprays since I accidentally poisoned myself some years back when spray was spilt on my hand. Someone suggested diluted dishwashing soap. Is this a viable solution and if so what dilution? Are there any other suggestions? My problems are thrips and mealybug mostly. Hoping for an answer... many thanks.

      @Fusics Creation, Thank you so much for your feedback, much appreciated. Since your plant is not blooming, definitely you can do this or you would need to fertilize your plant. Hibiscus needs fertilizer at this time as it's the growing season. I already have a video about the Best organic fertilizer for Hibiscus and if you are interested, you can watch it here - ruclips.net/video/5cWdxOnCAAA/видео.html
      To get rid of Pests, you can use either Neem Oil or Chemical pesticides such as Rogor or Roket. For Neem Oil dose is - 5-6 ml Neem Oil + 4 ml light hand wash and then mix them in 1 liter water. For Chemical pesticide, Max 1 ml in 1 liter water. I already have a video about applying Neem Oil and here is the video - ruclips.net/video/yVRy0NokUhc/видео.html I hope, that helps. Thank you :-)

    Great job and excellent tips.
    Apart from plants in pots what would recommend for those planted in the ground?
    The pruning is regular but this kind of blooms isnt there!
    What do you suggest?

      @Anthony Pereira, After many days and hope you are doing fine :-) Thank you so much for the feedback, appreciate it. I too have few in ground and don't do too much for them other than applying pesticide (Mealybugs attack them a lot). To get more blooms, you can fertilize your plants once in 2-3 months when they are growing actively. Honestly saying, we don't have many more options whenever we grow in ground directly. Also I believe, Quality of plants matters a lot.

      What is the reason for some habiscus leafs turn yellow? Thanks.

      hisham razak for me, it seems to be overwatering. I have an indoor standard one, same gorgeous flowers, it goes outside on the deck in summer. Zone 6b in US, mine is not winter hardy here.

      It responds very well to fertilizer, too bad the blooms only last one day!

      @sulu sharangi, Spring is the ideal time..but for Hybrid Hibiscus, we can do at anytime as they bloom throughout the whole year almost. But still, would be better to avoid winter. Thank you for your feedback n for watching the video :-)
