Hi Vic! Thank you for the tutorial. I had the same problem during a few weeks until I've found that the issue was not mainly on the OM4, but rather on the stabilisation of the iPhone together with the dji mimo app. If you try the default iPhone camera app with the OM4, the noticeable shaking will disappear. At least it works in mine,. Could you please try and let me know? I wish you and your family and excellent weekend, 👍
its not dji fault. the gimbal is fighting the iphones ois hardware stabilization. its the iphone ois stabilization that is jittering not the gimbal. i have tested in both an iphone and android and the android moves smoothly. ever since apple included ois in iphones after the iphone 6s, it has always had this issue. the only solution is if dji adds digital stabilization to counter the ois of iphone, or if apple changes from hardware ois into only eis (electronic stabilization) where you can turn it off. also if dji is to add eis stablization you would likely not be able to record in 4k, because for eis to work they need to crop in and stablize. and eis stablization videos are always not great in quality compared to non eis. you can try the front facing camera it doesnt have ois hardware stabilization and you would see the difference. what you can do, keep using the filmic eis or hope dji implement eis or as i did get a second phone android or iphone 6s was the last iphone without ois for such videos, or hope apple removes ois and makes it only eis.
Then why are we getting good quality video (stabilized) out of the iOS Camera app as well as Filmic Pro? So DJI can fix it but they are choosing not to include that feature? It could even be a toggle to switch digital stabilization on or off if the user wants to toggle that. But it just is annoying to have to even work around this issue in the first place. Also: why does this only affect the 4k 60fps? The video works nice and smooth when recorded in the Mimo app in 4k 24fps… So it works, just not in 4k 60? That again makes no sense.
@@ChrisSpiegl tldr: dji mimo app has no eis stabilization. and gimbal and iphone ois stabilization arent great together. i would explain further. iphones have patented hardware ois stabilization, it cannot be turned off. iphone camera app also has eis stabilization, so both eis and ois work together when you use iphone camera app. filmic pro also has eis. so if youre recording a video, both eis and ois in either iphone camera app or filmic pro, works to smooth out the video. now the problem arises when ois and a gimbal are being used together, this is because the gimbal is trying to hold the phone in place as you run, whilst the iphone hardware ois is also trying to hold the camera in place. its like putting pebbles in a container and running with it, the pebbles would shake around in the container. iphone 6s and before or alot of android phones cameras are "glued" to the phone, so its like the pebbles in the same container are glued internally to the container, this would prevent them from shaking as you run. i hope you get my example. so again, its not dji's fault. but, dji can surely add eis stabilization to help smooth out the video. but eis stabilization is a really hard tech to implement, we can keep requesting for dji to implement that. regarding your question " why does this only affect the 4k 60fps? The video works nice and smooth when recorded in the Mimo app in 4k 24fps", actually the video would shake regardless of 24fps or 60fps if youre running, dji mimo app has no eis stabilization. so like pebbles in container, if youre moving slowly, you can get all three to work perfectly.
Hi, I'm wondering if DJI has fixed the noise issue the 3-rd generation has: strange noise is recorded by microphones of a smartphone when recording video, and that noise doesn't appear when recording without the steady cam.
Hello nice vídeo, i have the iPhone 12 pro Max and i dont know wich one to buy, osm 3 is 79 euros and osm4 149 euros, wich one do you recomend me? Thanks for the answer
The contact point where you attach tripods will always eventually break or even shatter into pieces with little pressure sooner then later if you connect tripods to it due to being molded with cheap, disposable plastic. Ugh. I've had several break like this with very careful, light usage. Any idea how I can maybe use a vice or something instead of the intended threaded insert? I need a workaround for this because I keep getting 'screwed'.
Hey Lousi, Moza are definitely worth a look, but all the apps struggle with the iPhone image stabilization. Best app I've found is Filmic Pro which allows you to turn it off or just use the stock apple app
@@VicBarry I saw the mini p it looks promising but it seems like nothing beats the om4 on convenience. Hi Vic, Thanks for the review, Any chance of an Android phone test I've read the software is even more limited for Samsung phones. Considering the DJI 5. Looks like Cobh in your vids :)
Hey Paul, unfortunately I’m not equipped for Android and don’t plan on being anytime soon. Sorry. From what I’ve learned in the comments here over the years, the Android experience from DJI isn’t exactly amazing, compared to iOS.
@@VicBarry No Problem Vic, I teach Digital Design and I know how tied in people are to Mac stuff :) said there was no harm in asking. Just came across your channel yesterday, its very good, nice to see a local reviewer. Continued success.
@@VicBarry Well, the BlackFriday / CyberMonday Discount makes the Ronin at £205 versus £139 for the OM4. We have Filmic Pro and just want to up the ante doing small Instagram Videos for our Hotel.
Hi Vic. Precisely what I concluded last week. The Mimo app is conflicting with the on board stabilisation (there isn’t any on the wide angle camera). I formally notified DJI months ago - and they fully understood the problem then, but are seemingly not communicating it to the software engineers who could fix it. I gave up on the tracking feature unless strictly necessary. The solution is the Filmic Pro 6.12.0 app which is seemingly fully compatible with OM3 and 4.
Hey Rob. It’s a disaster at this stage. Personally part of me thinks it’s that DJI don’t have access to the full Apple SDK but then on the other hand FilmicPro isn’t having this issue so I’m all out of ideas. It has to be more than a simple update to the Mimo app?
Vic Barry Hi Again. I’m afraid it is that simple. The Mimo app needs a switch to toggle off their software stabiliser and the issue is gone. Filmic do not stabilise, what you are seeing is the gimbal doing its job in isolation and the Apple camera stabiliser piggybacking on the steady cam to give solid footage in the Filmic app. I fear DJI would need to build a new app from the ground up to tidy up the mess as it’s only prevalent in 4K? I guess its tangled up in their others features and too difficult to simply switch off.
Vic Barry To be clear: Filmic Pro has no stabilisation. It enables you to switch off the function in the Apple hardware. (They worked with Apple to achieve this I think.) Why you would want to is a mystery to me, I guess its for the “real” pros who want camera shake for aesthetic or other creative reasons.
@@robertbannon4173, @Vic et al, My 2 cents here: - OIS: this is physics at play and has to do with lens stabilization to offset our hand shake but will not remove body shake especially up and down movements. OIS is mechanical so you can’t turn on or off as it’s always on; - EIS: it is used by smartphones and action/360 cameras (Gopros 6 and below) to handle hand shake video that don’t use OIS through software. That can be turned on or off but I don’t think they allow you to do that on native app, at least for iOS smartphones. Sorry I don’t own Android smartphones so I can’t validate it. The image will crop the FOV because the edge of the images are where it has most pronounced micro jitters; - Gyro stabilization: it uses the gyroscopes metadata and balances the handshakes and/or body movements by balancing these movements and cropping the FOV. Sony is using it for FX9, ZV1, RX100m7, and I believe in the FX6. Not sure about A7S3 though as I haven’t kept up with all the new releases; - Sensor shift stabilization: it is moving the sensor around the image plane using electrical actuators. If any handshake or body movements to the camera (like GH5/5S, etc) or smartphone (like the wide lens on iP12 PM) happens, it is detected by the accelerometers and then calculates in real time the direction and speed to move the sensor to remain stationary in relations to the image being projected on it by the lens (so long as it knows the focal length of the lens). This is the best as there is no loss in optical image quality and no cropping is required. In case of Vic who uses the OM4, you will still see micro jitters from the up and down body movements (4th axis). So you still need to make sure you have the gimbal properly balanced and use the ninja walk for constant movement and removing as much of the up and down bouncing; - Smartphones/action/360/DSLRs/mirroless/cinema camera Gimbals: using OM4 as an example, it uses 3-axis (roll, tilt, and pan) stabilization by controlling movements in each axis to handle shakes from left/right, up/down, front/back, and roll. In order for this to show buttery smooth movements in the videos, it needs to be correctly balanced and the motors are strong enough to the weight of the smartphones and/or cameras + lenses. The problem here is it is attached to our hands and our hands are attached to our bodies. And when we move up and down from walking/running, it cannot remove all the micro jitters from this 4th axis movement. Key again is to reduce these jitters by properly balancing the gimbal and using the ninja walk. - Video software apps: using Filmic Pro, it is using it’s own EIS which allows you to turn on or off their software stabilization (not OIS from smartphone or the gimbal). In Vic’s example, it looks like it’s working better on the iP11 with EIS on; Net/net, smoothness of video depends on having constant speed of movements in 3 axis so gimbal solves that with proper balancing and having strong motors to handle the weight of smartphones and/or cameras. But what it doesn’t solve for is the 4-axis (walking/running) because of the shakes and change of speed from uneven terrain when you walk/run. There will always be tradeoffs so any stabilization solution still comes down on your use cases, skills and/or lots of practices, and budget. I hope I have my understanding right. If not, please share further!
Iv just purchased om 4 today, it’s my first ever gimbal so I’m unsure if this is normal but it makes faint high pitch sound when moving and I can feel the movements of the motor. Is this normal? Thanks in advance
Hey Matt, congrats on the purchase. I've double checked mine there, and maybe I'm going deaf, but I can't here any faint high pitch sound. And I don't really feel the movements of the motor. Doesn't sound normal to me to be honest. How much of the motor movements can you feel, is it quite strong or quite faint?
Congrats. Tips? Practice. A gimbal is great but it’s not like a magic wand. Learn a few moves and learn how to get the most out of it. Then plan your vids. Enjoy 🙏
Hi vic ... im samsung j6 user. This will be the first time in my life to use gimbaI. So i decided to test dji om4 on my phone but its not supported. I really2 love gimbal ... can i get your advise and opinion? *anyone also can put their suggestion
Great video!. Liked and subscribed 👍 Thanks for the input. I am looking at a gimbal for my note 10 plus and my choices was the Om4 and the Spg2... Any suggestions 🤔.
the problem hes facing is only in iphones. i use a galaxy also and its perfect. this is because iphones have a patented form of ois hardware stabilization that fights with the gimbal stabilization. your note 10 plus is a big phone so this om4 should work, but the cons of the om4 if you use the magnetic sticker, the gimbal would likely show in your ultra wide camera, unless you use the magnetic grip. search youtube for "Zdenka Darula" she analyzes the om4.
Hi Vic! I almost bought an Osmo Mobile 3 but I'm thinking about OM4 now. I have Samsung S10 and it sucks for video so I would really appreciate your opinion. Would you buy OM3 or 4? 😁
To be honest, I've seen a number of reviews for the OM4 and it really seems to be an update for an update sake. I have an Osmo mobile 3 and luv it; all technical stuff has flaws and the majority of people on this channel don't need professional stuff - so what's wrong with a minor flaw or two..??
Hey Andre, I disagree completely. This isn’t a minor flaw. This is a functional part of the product that doesn’t work. And it was the same in the Osmo Mobile 3.
@@metal_sandwich hey, just wanted to ask if there's the "clone me" option in the OM3? I'm planning to get one as it's ok sale over here but very much looking forward to that and dolly zoom effect. So checking if they are available in om3
Both the OM3 and OM4 requires putting the clamp (even the magnet has a clamp) in the right place. So try this! When your phone is perfectly Balanced, place some "marks" along the edge of your phone identifying both sides of the clamp. I used 4 small drops of red paint and let them dry overnight while my phone was charging. From then on, No More Balancing necessary, as you'll know exactly where the clamp goes. Makes "Set-Up" that much Quicker!!!
@@VicBarry Got a question for you Barry! As you know, I have the OM3 (had it for about a week now) and I've got a couple of problems. The biggest one is keeping the DJI program going! I'll start recording, but then my screen goes Black, and about 30 seconds later the DJI Main Page comes back and I have to restart it. So I press record and start scanning the scenery, when suddenly the screen on my phone goes Black again! Any ideas on what could be causing that? Second issue... If I'm scanning a flower bed too fast, everything goes blurry. Is there a setting that I should put it in to do a recording with more movement? Perhaps a sports mode?
I am hardly surprised at this issue, Vic. Be thankful you're using an Iphone here as Android users get a very raw deal as we can't select anything other than 30FPS. The OM4 is an update for update's sake. There are very few benefits over the OM3 and given that most of the functionality is in the Mimo app, the OM3 can do virtually everything that the OM4 can do. The ONLY reason to upgrade from 3 to 4 is if your phone is too heavy for the 3.
Hey Andrew, so I hear :( Don't get me wrong, I think the magnetic clamp is superb and really speeds things up. However, the same old problem, NOT fixed is kinda unforgiveable to be honest. Either DJI opens up their full SDK to the likes of Filmic Pro or they fix the existing issue with the Mimo app. It staggers belief at this stage to be honest.
@@VicBarry The problem is kinda deeper. The Filmic pro functionality with the OM3/4 (to my mind) isn't great and it's taken a whole year to get any compatibility at all. The issue with the Android camera options is more to do with Android instances than DJI, but it feels that DJI isn't really trying too hard with it; Filmic Pro shows that unlocking more android camera functionality is possible. So, is DJI just coasting? If DJI had the audacity to launch a new drone where the only benefit over the old one was (say) magnetic propellers that saves you screwing them on and beefier motors to give it a 1/2mph speed increase, there would be (rightly) a proper slating.
Very Fair point Andrew. I do think it’s a dev issue, possibly an Apple sdk problem for DJI but it hasn’t been fixed in multiple app updates and another new release of hardware so not sure what’s going on unless DJI have a restricted version of the Apple SDK
@@AndyBanner yah, dji isnt trying to hard to implement 60fps in android phones. they could open up to filmic to help them implement the tech. maybe theyre not getting as much money from androids as they get from apple. the problem with the shaking demonstrated in this video also is about iphones ois stabilization not dji. i have both an android and iphone and the android doesnt have the apple patented hardware ois stabilization. so theres no constant fight between the gimbal and the ois.
I’m brand new, 2 days, to the OM4. I was unable to tell what the problems were that you were concerned about. You can say it’s me, but I think you should have been much more clear. Showing side by side and expecting us to spot the problem does not work for me.
Hey Edward, thanks for the feedback. I’ve gone back and watched this entire video again as it’s been a while since I looked at the video. The side by sides were accompanied with a VO explaining jitters and vibrations which were clearly obvious on the visual side of things. If there’s another way you’d find helpful I can definitely take note for future content so I’m all ears for any suggestions you might have. Cheers
I should add, Mimo is a train wreck with Android 11 on the 4a. Timelapses are just the camera move, over time, but shot in regular video HUGELY compressed (so, timelapses don't work), hyperlapses mostly do, 240 degree panos refuse to work but the other modes are fine. It's an infuriatingly good device with software that cripples it.
OM4 experience has been awful for me. Very choppy/bouncy video, along with numerous connection problems with Mimo app, even though Bluetooth shows device is connected. In photo mode I’ve had it stick when taking single photo, with it going into never ending burst mode. Really let down by DJI on this product.
Thanks 👍 the honesty and retract. Btw which video an I going to love? 🤔 it's missing. I watch all your content (mostly) so I guess I have watched it already.
Why do you have a picture of the gimbal breaking apart or what appears to be burning up? Is this just to get viewers? Passionate review but this gimbal is really not for professional use. Yes people use it for that but it is consumer grade. I like the way my 4 works. No complaints.
I agree with you about the DJI OM 4 except in my case the app is just Junk. Why, because when I Film a video it just between doesn't run smoothly and just hangs up for a portion of a second what shows in the end result. Because of these nonsense I was forced to Film my last video what I thought it will be the best one yet with out the OM4 and afcourse it is now the worst. I really hope the DJI will upgrade the App because my Gimbal sitts in a corner waiting for miracle to happen. For my first Gimbal purchase am I really disappointed with the App, and not to forget I run the Android in my phone and the App is clearly made for the iPhone what makes me . .. , you get the point.
Hey Ljubo, the app has been like this since the Osmo Mobile 3 and it's still not fixed. I wouldn't hold my breath to be honest. I totally get the point!!
@@VicBarry Thanks I will do an additional test with the Gopro mounted when I get the camera. I don't expect any better response but I need to know. Interesting is that your review till now describes the 4 in reality but everyone else's reviews what I watched before I bought the 4 saying how great it is so with my experience now they were not honest. Sadly your review came to me to late but that's the RUclips algoritem problem. Thanks and I will se if I will return the Junk if GJi OM 4.
That was very interesting! Thank you! We are experiencing the same problems with our OM4. We tried filming a hike in a forest with it and the footage was completely unusable. Plus, we tried doing some panos while standing still, from left to right and from the ground lifting and tilting the gimbal up to the subject standing in front, and even while standing the footage was shaky and unusable! It feels like it exaggerates hand movements instead of compensating them, and adds more shakiness to the footage because the same panos looked way better hand held when we didn't use any gimbal at all. Plus, I must add that we have the very first generation of DJI Osmo (the black one that wasn't foldable yet) and it works much-much better than the new one. I haven't tried it with my new phone yet, but t worked perfectly fine with my Iphone 8. We tested the OM4 with the same phone and it didn't work as good as the old one. So yeah, we are very disappointed with our purchase.
@@letsgotoystv3187 yea good 👍 tho I'm in Glasgow though doesn't seem to matter with all this dictatorship crazy world can make stuff complicated & enjoying day to day stuff is ( tho not all) more complicated hahaa 😅
By far and away the biggest flaw is the TILT. There isn’t any. Its barely 30 degrees up and down. If you use it in any active setting or want to do low shots, it is utterly terrible. The next most annoying thing is the constant recentering
They have terrible app Android ; In my case in tracking mode doesn't work well it's just shaking, doesn't smooth at all; I sent messages to DJI team but they didn't nothing .
I think this is the result of the optical image stabilization in the phone bouncing while running rather than the gimbal. In other words, the phone body is kept steady by the gimbal but the lens is bouncing all around inside there. To prove this point, throw a really old phone in the gimbal and watch how smooth it is. Something like an iPhone 5. I’ve been able to replicate it just as you did and the blame should be on the phone and not the gimbal itself. There really is no way to keep the ois in the iPhone 11 from bouncing around internally like a spring.
Further annoyance: If you had the patience you could have duplicated the successful jogging shot using the stock Camera app once you had set the video to Follow mode in the Mimo app and then closed it.
Vic Barry - I wish. The gimbal retains the video setting: Follow, Tilt Locked, FPV etc once selected in Mimo. (This from their support site.) Then you swap to the Apple Camera app and run around like a mad thing. Tracking is strictly an in-app feature.
@@robertbannon4173 That may work for the three modes you described, however it is a hell of an annoyance to have to switch around apps like that; don't you think?
Just "upgraded" to a om4 from.an osmo 2. Used it today but have to say I'm not impressed. The old 2 worked much better. Jitters in hyperlapse and loosing tracking. Seems I may buy another osmo 2. Atleast it worked
the tech is better. the problem is in iphones. iphones have patented ois hardware stabilization every iphone after the 6s has had this constant fight with the gimbals. the only fix is unless iphones switch only to eis software stabilization or dji implements eis stabilization to counter iphones ois stabilization but that would likely come at a cost of video quality.
I bought the OSMO Mobile first gen the day it was released. Fantastic gimbal and worked flawlessly with iPhone 4s at the time. I used it a lot. Then I got an iPhone 7+ with the Optical Image Stabilization. The gimbal shots were jittery and jell-oy. It was a big controversy on the DJI forums back then. Using the non-OIS lens in the iPhone 7+ produces excellent stabilized video. Using the OIS lens and I get the jitters. The Filmic app helps but not completely. Last year I bought the OSMO Mobile 3 thinking it has solved that issue. It was better than the fist gen (which I still have) but it didn’t solve the issue. They work great for slow gimbal shots and you can use most of the footage, but for faster moves, the video is unusable. I still have the iPhone 7+ and am contemplating on upgrading to the iPhone 12 Pro Max with the sensor shift stabilization. The issue with that is the phone is HUGE and heavy. I would be curious to see a video test of the OSMO Mobile 3 and 4 with an iPhone 12 Pro Max and see how well that video gets stabilized. Great video! Thank you for saving me $149 🙂
I have Iphone xs max with a heavy magnetic case on, and osmo 3... no jitter whatsoever, nit even while running.. tested it on a 5 minute sprint. Found on the internet however that jitter may happen if the phone isn't properly balanced. So you may try that.
@iRepGuam I purchased the iPhone 12 Pro Max and it works great with the OSMO 3 and I also bought the OM4 and I really love that gimbal. The 12 PMax works great with that too, although I have not done extensive jogging testing. But from what I’ve tried with the OM4 and OSMO 3, I’ve been satisfied with the results.
hi, i use many DSLR gimbal, from mechanism Glidecam, to early electric gimbal DYS, 2 feiyu, 1 Ikan Beholder, 3 zhiyun, 2 dji ronin, and ronis sc, and my conclusion is, all gimbal tend to jitter, especially if the power of motor is to big comparing the weight of the camera. so heavy camera tend to better in the term of jitter. try it with heavy phone, or hack to lower the power of the motor if possible
Congrats on the 10K Vic . I bought the smooth Q when it came out a few yers ago and guess what ? Like all my other gear, i never used it. I have everything there to make good videos. Hero 7, canon 200d, L lenses and macro lenses, benro and manfrotto tripod, rode wireless go mic and rode video mic and video lights. Unfortunately i no longer drive due to health reasons and medication and am limited a little bit in my daily life. So many things i would like to do. I take it you will be getting the Hero 9 ? I will get the hero 9 after i watch a few reviews and wait a few days and no doubt I wont get to use that much either 😄.
Hey Wayne, I think we’re all guilty of buying gear and not using it fully. Yeah I’m gonna pick up the 9 alright. But GoPro have pulled out of all retail here from what I gather so hopefully it won’t take too long to get here.
I thought it was the balance first as the mimo app kept throwing up "re-balance'- like you Vic I just use the filmic pro app stabilisation off. I prefer the moment app and even though they update their software for the OM4 the app has not been as good. The bracketing is gone to s**t in a setting and burst is now lagging. Still fliming in log or flat they recommend a weight to screw into the om4. I have previous weights they had for the mobile 3 and not good. So I am stuck to filmic also as i use a 52mm moment ND and their anamorphic lens. Also cheers for doing the interview with my buddy terrance it was a great listen. As always Vic cheers for the uploads
Hey there. No worries. Had a blast with Terrence. There’s something seriously gone wrong here for DJI. I’m convinced at this stage it’s the SDK they have is either restricted or something. To be honest I’d use the Mimo app solely for the tracking option. And it’s a disaster that it doesn’t work properly without these blasted vibrations everywhere.
@@VicBarry the active track 3.0 is amazing alright and the ease of use to get it to track, it's a pity everything doesn't just sync correctly. Hi Vic! Thank you for the tutorial. At least it works in mine,. Could you please try and let me know? I wish you and your family and excellent weekend, 👍
Can you tell me song name at 3:57 .Please 🥺
its not dji fault. the gimbal is fighting the iphones ois hardware stabilization. its the iphone ois stabilization that is jittering not the gimbal. i have tested in both an iphone and android and the android moves smoothly. ever since apple included ois in iphones after the iphone 6s, it has always had this issue. the only solution is if dji adds digital stabilization to counter the ois of iphone, or if apple changes from hardware ois into only eis (electronic stabilization) where you can turn it off. also if dji is to add eis stablization you would likely not be able to record in 4k, because for eis to work they need to crop in and stablize. and eis stablization videos are always not great in quality compared to non eis. you can try the front facing camera it doesnt have ois hardware stabilization and you would see the difference.
what you can do, keep using the filmic eis or hope dji implement eis or as i did get a second phone android or iphone 6s was the last iphone without ois for such videos, or hope apple removes ois and makes it only eis.
This was a helpful comment. Thanks mate 👍

@@VicBarry thanks
The contact point where you attach tripods will always eventually break or even shatter into pieces with little pressure sooner then later if you connect tripods to it due to being molded with cheap, disposable plastic. Ugh. I've had several break like this with very careful, light usage. Any idea how I can maybe use a vice or something instead of the intended threaded insert? I need a workaround for this because I keep getting 'screwed'.
What are you doing to say these are breaking so often?
Nothing. The plastic is brittle. Extremely brittle. I can't believe I'm the only one experiencing this.
Is there anything you suggest that’s better than the om4?
Hey Lousi, Moza are definitely worth a look, but all the apps struggle with the iPhone image stabilization. Best app I've found is Filmic Pro which allows you to turn it off or just use the stock apple app

That’s genius. Gonna try that if I find the will to use the om4 again 😂 I’m finding filmic pro works with the stablization turned on in filmic pro
@@robertbannon4173, @Vic et al,
My 2 cents here:
- OIS: this is physics at play and has to do with lens stabilization to offset our hand shake but will not remove body shake especially up and down movements. OIS is mechanical so you can’t turn on or off as it’s always on;
- EIS: it is used by smartphones and action/360 cameras (Gopros 6 and below) to handle hand shake video that don’t use OIS through software. That can be turned on or off but I don’t think they allow you to do that on native app, at least for iOS smartphones. Sorry I don’t own Android smartphones so I can’t validate it. The image will crop the FOV because the edge of the images are where it has most pronounced micro jitters;
- Gyro stabilization: it uses the gyroscopes metadata and balances the handshakes and/or body movements by balancing these movements and cropping the FOV. Sony is using it for FX9, ZV1, RX100m7, and I believe in the FX6. Not sure about A7S3 though as I haven’t kept up with all the new releases;
- Sensor shift stabilization: it is moving the sensor around the image plane using electrical actuators. If any handshake or body movements to the camera (like GH5/5S, etc) or smartphone (like the wide lens on iP12 PM) happens, it is detected by the accelerometers and then calculates in real time the direction and speed to move the sensor to remain stationary in relations to the image being projected on it by the lens (so long as it knows the focal length of the lens). This is the best as there is no loss in optical image quality and no cropping is required. In case of Vic who uses the OM4, you will still see micro jitters from the up and down body movements (4th axis). So you still need to make sure you have the gimbal properly balanced and use the ninja walk for constant movement and removing as much of the up and down bouncing;
- Smartphones/action/360/DSLRs/mirroless/cinema camera Gimbals: using OM4 as an example, it uses 3-axis (roll, tilt, and pan) stabilization by controlling movements in each axis to handle shakes from left/right, up/down, front/back, and roll.
- Video software apps: using Filmic Pro, it is using it’s own EIS which allows you to turn on or off their software stabilization (not OIS from smartphone or the gimbal). In Vic’s example, it looks like it’s working better on the iP11 with EIS on;
Net/net, smoothness of video depends on having constant speed of movements in 3 axis so gimbal solves that with proper balancing and having strong motors to handle the weight of smartphones and/or cameras.

Thanks for the input.

@@VicBarry I guess you're right, you are the pro...
@@metal_sandwich hey, just wanted to ask if there's the "clone me" option in the OM3?

Both the OM3 and OM4 requires putting the clamp (even the magnet has a clamp) in the right place. So try this!
When your phone is perfectly Balanced, place some "marks" along the edge of your phone identifying both sides of the clamp. I used 4 small drops of red paint and let them dry overnight while my phone was charging. From then on, No More Balancing necessary, as you'll know exactly where the clamp goes. Makes "Set-Up" that much Quicker!!!
Great suggestion Matt 👍

Hey 👋 most of the studio talking head stuff is shot on the Sony a6600 🙏
What a pain in the neck not an om4 for me until an update..
Yep, it's really annoying :(
Hmm I wonder if the native app is okay 👌
Filmic Pro works nicely with my Pixel 4a and OM4.
Hmm I wonder why it does this
OM4 experience has been awful for me. Very choppy/bouncy video, along with numerous connection problems with Mimo app, even though Bluetooth shows device is connected. In photo mode I’ve had it stick when taking single photo, with it going into never ending burst mode. Really let down by DJI on this product.

Interesting could be side by side OM 4 with Osmo Pocket (1 or 2). But...Nice Vid Boss!
They have terrible app Android ; In my case in tracking mode doesn't work well it's just shaking, doesn't smooth at all; I sent messages to DJI team but they didn't nothing .
Hey Marian, that's fair to say alright. For years now, Android users don't seem to get as good an app as iOS users
Just read the instructions and it's the best gimbal for skate vids
Further annoyance: If you had the patience you could have duplicated the successful jogging shot using the stock Camera app once you had set the video to Follow mode in the Mimo app and then closed it.
How’d you mean Rob? Are you saying that you should setup the tracking in the Mimo app and then jump into the stock camera app and record that?
Vic Barry - I wish. The gimbal retains the video setting: Follow, Tilt Locked, FPV etc once selected in Mimo. (This from their support site.) Then you swap to the Apple Camera app and run around like a mad thing. Tracking is strictly an in-app feature.
Cool
@@robertbannon4173 That may work for the three modes you described, however it is a hell of an annoyance to have to switch around apps like that; don't you think?

Yea miss for me ,I was keen to get a gimbal but I’ll wait for the tech to get a bit better.
Thanks man saved me some coin.
Top work.💪🔥

the tech is better. the problem is in iphones. iphones have patented ois hardware stabilization every iphone after the 6s has had this constant fight with the gimbals. the only fix is unless iphones switch only to eis software stabilization or dji implements eis stabilization to counter iphones ois stabilization but that would likely come at a cost of video quality.
??? Différence
hi, i use many DSLR gimbal, from mechanism Glidecam, to early electric gimbal DYS, 2 feiyu, 1 Ikan Beholder, 3 zhiyun, 2 dji ronin, and ronis sc, and my conclusion is, all gimbal tend to jitter, especially if the power of motor is to big comparing the weight of the camera. so heavy camera tend to better in the term of jitter. try it with heavy phone, or hack to lower the power of the motor if possible
Is OM 4 a good gimbal? If it's good then I'll buy one. 😅🥺
