You need to understand that God does NOT need your kindness. He can accomplish His Will through other people, the real question is, do you want to be part of the action or just watch from the stands. When you give of your (money, time, skills etc ) you grow in the Spirit because you're letting lose of the things that once controlled you. We have to remember, where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. What are we trusting the most? our bank account? comfort? Jesus?

The money is not the problem, the people is not the problem... the problem is when Pastors demand tithe, when they use the scriptures to tell people that is an obligation and that if you don’t tithe bad things are gonna happen to you, there is the real problem, legalism. We as Christians have to be generous that’s a fact.

The problems are ; we have mortal human beings who called themselves pastors using Jesus and God's names to steal from the poor and lied to them with no fear of God they claimed to be worshipping and no shame. Off course thieves and hypocrites have no shame of themselves not to talk of others . Armed robbers who called themselves pastors and the police , the government has not gotten hold of them to account . It is unfortunate .

Even though he didn't specifically say yes or no, Give from your heart how the Holy Spirit directs you. Do not give to make a Pastor rich but instead give to support the needs of the church which includes the poor, missionaries, advancing the Gospel and church for finances. Any pastor who tries to put you under the law for any reason for their gain is a false prophet. I don't think Pastor's should live above their means, especially for those giving who can't afford to, but do because of their faith and commitment to the cause of Christ.

Being the good Samaritan, loving our enemy, and having compassion for those who have been robbed and cheated is our responsibility as believers. This giving should be on a personal level, either by oneself or with a group, but not always just giving to someone else to do it for us. Sharing all good things with those who teach isn't only about money. Today, however, money, or something that can be converted to money, is the only thing most religious organizations want.

Did you know that, concerning giving, or tithing, or prosperity, Malachi 3:8-12 is not the full counsel of God? It is an excerpt, quoted to the church for centuries (believe it or not), which is a misrepresentation of God's counsel. We've accepted it because that's what we have always been taught. Here are a few points to consider.
-- Who did God appoint to receive tithes? God said, "And, behold, I have given the children of Levi all the tenth [the tithe] in Israel for an inheritance, for their service which they serve, even the service of the tabernacle of the congregation (Numbers 18:21-23). In this scripture, God established who receives the tithe (the Levites), and why they received it (they received no inheritance, and they served in the temple). This assignment is exclusive to Levites. A pastor cannot assume this assignment, he has never been scripturally assigned by God to collect tithes, he is not a Levite. In that same sense, only a Levite, never a pastor, could ever serve in a Jewish temple. The church has not replaced the Jewish temple, and pastors have not replaced Levites.
-- People are blessed when they give, not because of Malachi 3, which is based on the Law of Moses, an Old Testament law that has been replaced by Grace under Christ, at the cross. They are blessed because Jesus said, "Give, and it will be given to you: good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over will be put into your bosom. For with the same measure that you use, it will be measured back to you" (Luke 6:38). It is this principle of giving and receiving at work, when we give and are blessed. Not the expired law of tithing, which was required of the Jews (never Gentiles), and could only be received by Levite priests because they received no inheritance and were set apart to work fully in the Jewish temple.
-- There is much more to this, such as Abraham's tithe to Melchizedek, Jacob's promise to tithe, the history of when and why the New Testament church tithes (there is actually a date!), and the biblical support for all these truths. To be clear, every pastor has a right to collect offerings in support of the ministry; I fully agree with supporting the church financially. But our giving must be godly. It is wrong to require people to tithe, contrary to the scriptures, then say that we live according to the scriptures.
    Three biblical truths, regarding tithing:
    (1) There is no scripture that authorizes anyone but a Levite to receive tithes.
    (2) There is no scripture that authorizes a pastor to receive tithes.
    (3) There is no scripture that requires a Gentile to tithe.
If you're interested in learning more, I have researched and written about this in "Tither, You Are Free!" Blessings to you and your ministry!

In a nutshell. I present to you The three tithes mentioned in the Bible:
Levitical Tithe: 10% of one's income or produce, given annually to support the Levites. Leviticus 27:30-33 and Numbers 18:21-24
Festival Tithe: An additional 10% of one's income or produce, also given annually, to be used for religious festivals and celebrations. Deuteronomy 14:22-27
Poor Tithe: This tithe was collected every third year and also amounted to 10% of one's income or produce for that year, to support the poor and needy. Deuteronomy 14:28-29 and Deuteronomy 26:12-13.
To calculate the total amount of tithing over a three-year period, one would:
Pay the Levitical Tithe (10%) every year (Annually, not every Sunday).
The Levitical Tithe: This is the primary tithe, given to support the Levites, who were the tribe of Israel set apart to serve in the temple and had no inheritance of their own. This tithe is mentioned in Leviticus 27:30-33 and Numbers 18:21-24. It constituted one-tenth of a person's produce or income.
Pay the Festival Tithe (10%) every year (Annually, not every Sunday).
The Festival Tithe: This tithe was set aside for religious festivals and feasts, as described in Deuteronomy 14:22-27. It was meant to support the celebration of holy days and to be shared with the Levites and others in need.
Pay the Poor Tithe (10%) every third year.
The Poor Tithe: Also known as the "third-year tithe," this was given every third year to support the Levites, foreigners, orphans, and widows. It is mentioned in Deuteronomy 14:28-29 and Deuteronomy 26:12-13.
So, in a three-year cycle, the breakdown would be:
    Year 1: 10% (Levitical) + 10% (Festival) = 20%. Leviticus 27:30-33 and Numbers 18:21-24
    Year 2: 10% (Levitical) + 10% (Festival) = 20%. Deuteronomy 14:22-27
    Year 3: 10% (Levitical) + 10% (Festival) + 10% (Poor) = 30%. Deuteronomy 14:28-29 and Deuteronomy 26:12-13.
Thus, over three years, the total amount given would be 20% + 20% + 30% = 70% of one's income or produce, with an average of approximately 23.3% per year. This is Biblical tithing, the current churches do not teach this truth.
Churches today are misleading people and it is clear that the form of tithing being done today is absolutely unbiblical. Tithing is more than just 10 percent, and it's not supposed to be dished out every Sunday or every week but annually/seasonally.

The whole reason there is a new testament/covenant in the first place is to SHOW US that we couldn't get it right. God is all knowing and all powerful, knowing us before we were born. So with that being the case, it couldn't be a case of him changing His mind or His plan not working. He did it as an example for US to see.
So with Christ Jesus paying the debt of sin and doing away with the law, he simply just tells us "Just love each other and treat them how you'd want to be treated". You can't rob God of something that's His already, so it's not a matter of possession. Give your time, because unlike material things, time is permanent and priceless.

My take on this is simply this way. Giving from the heart is born out of love and it will surely surpass 10%.
For example, when you love from the heart, you do extraordinary than wjen you love from the brain, you apply logic .
When you give 10% then you have given out of your brain, logic because you aint loving with your heart but brain.
Carnally, anyone in love with a fellow wife do not apply logic and its why outsiders apply logic to view a couple in love with their minds and cannot fathom how they overlook their mistakes. Lovers from the head will always see mistake since he will apply logic.
So, when you love God with all your heart, mind and soul, you will apply the love in giving from your heart.
You will evetually out give those giving under law or compulsion.
    Same with tithing

@Tai Omotosho, In the New Testament the practice of giving is NOT the same in purpose with the Old Testament... In the Old Testament, All the eleven tribes of Israel should give to one Tribe... The Tribe of Levi because they were chosen by God to be the mediator between God and Israel... The Levites cannot own anything, and cannot do any kind of works except in the tabernacle of God.... God is Separated from them that's why Israel needed a mediator between them and God... In The New Testament Jesus Christ is NOT separated to the Christians(Jews or Gentiles), But Jesus is part of the Body, as the head of the Body... All the members of the Body are equal... The pastors and the least of the members are all equal and the practice of giving is NOT '''from other members to the pastors''', BUT '''from the rich to the poor''', If the pastor is more abundant than other members, he must be the one to give...=>>> 1 CORINTHIANS 12:12-28 (NLT) One Body with Many Parts
12 The human body has many parts, but the many parts make up one whole body. So it is with the body of Christ. 13 Some of us are Jews, some are Gentiles,[e] some are slaves, and some are free. But we have all been baptized into one body by one Spirit, and we all share the same Spirit.[f]
14 Yes, the body has many different parts, not just one part. 15 If the foot says, “I am not a part of the body because I am not a hand,” that does not make it any less a part of the body. 16 And if the ear says, “I am not part of the body because I am not an eye,” would that make it any less a part of the body? 17 If the whole body were an eye, how would you hear? Or if your whole body were an ear, how would you smell anything?
18 But our bodies have many parts, and God has put each part just where he wants it. 19 How strange a body would be if it had only one part! 20 Yes, there are many parts, but only one body. 21 The eye can never say to the hand, “I don’t need you.” The head can’t say to the feet, “I don’t need you.”
22 In fact, some parts of the body that seem weakest and least important are actually the most necessary. 23 And the parts we regard as less honorable are those we clothe with the greatest care. So we carefully protect those parts that should not be seen, 24 while the more honorable parts do not require this special care. So God has put the body together such that extra honor and care are given to those parts that have less dignity. 25 This makes for harmony among the members, so that all the members care for each other. 26 If one part suffers, all the parts suffer with it, and if one part is honored, all the parts are glad.
27 All of you together are Christ’s body, and each of you is a part of it. 28 Here are some of the parts God has appointed for the church:
      first are apostles,
      second are prophets,
      third are teachers,
      then those who do miracles,
those who have the gift of healing,
      those who can help others,
those who have the gift of leadership,
those who speak in unknown languages.

Giving is proportional to our love of God. God owns everything and He knows our needs. I think one of the reasons why many Christians are hesitant to give more is because most preachers emphasizes only the Old Testament principle of tithing. That 10% is a non-negotiable requirement. This style of preaching gives the impression in the believers' minds that they only need to tithe for compliance sake and that they'll have less guilt.
If preachers would only preach the correct biblical tithing, that the New Covenant has even greater promises than the Old, that we have much freedom... I am sure that believers would definitely give more cheerfully.

Tithe was never 💰 in the old testament.so instead of paying tithe that you can't show bible chapters to support. Abbey what the new testament free giving then take that 10% and help your family and poor people.

Ariannelei Endique God never asked the people to tithe 10 percent of their money...never. when you say you pay your tithes first because you have hope in God that sets you up for losing faith because one of your bills might come up late or unpaid, and then you'll be looking at God like, what happened? Psychologically the pastor knows 10 percent is locked in the believers head when it comes to giving. There is no commandment for tithing in the New Testament. One can give whatever they can afford 0% to 100%, and let's not forget time or a skill. There's people that sit in churches all across the world struggling because of this tithe first mind set while the pastor has a home with multi beds a baths. The bible says, my people perish for lack of knowledge. Investigate this for yourself.

      Ariannelei Endique,
You are brainwashed by the corrupt pastors and John Piper who is also
      corrupt....
He is juggling the scriptures that Christians should pay the pastors
      for their services....
      1 Timothy 5:18 (KJV)
For the Scripture saith, “Thou shalt not muzzle the ox that treadeth out the corn,”
and, “The laborer is worthy of his reward.”
He also mentioned 2 Corinthian 9:7 where he meant that it was for the pastors
but it was for the saints(church members) not pastors....
      2 Corinthians 9:7 (KJV)
Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly,
or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver.
But in verse 1 it says: For as touching the ministering to the saints, it is superfluous
for me to write to you:
The Christians in Corinth, were rich and Paul admonished the Corinthians to help
      their fellow Christians in Jerusalem....
It started in 1 Corinthians 16 : 1... Please read it till verse 3..... and you will know
clearly that Paul was asking Help from Corinth to help the poor Christians in
      Jerusalem......
      NOTE :
These are the 3 most evil doctrine in Christianity....
      1. The doctrine of Calvinism....
      2. The doctrine of Tithing in Christianity....
      3. The doctrine of Trinity....
These 3 all came out from the RCC, the anti Christ church.....

I tithe. Don’t debate me. And hold your OT AND and NT talk.. I don’t see it as missing money because I would waste the 10% either way on things of the world.... I owe sallie Mae , pay rent and I have a car payment... regular human being talking .. And I have NEVER needed anything as God has ALWAYS provided. You CAN budget for tithes and offerings. So I’m not worried about a missed bill or if I overspent in Sephora one random weekend... in Malachi 3:10 , How I’ve received and perceived it...God says to “test me and see if I can’t give you abundant
    blessings”.
When I started out those were my complaints too, about it being to much and blah blah. Have you tried? And if your holding on to the notion that “oh the pastors benefiting” and “God doesn’t use the money”... you right, he doesn’t want your money. It’s not yours to begin with. He gave you that job to be able to make the money, right? Why do you care if someone is misusing the money, or maybe you’ve forgotten that all things work together for good to those who love God.. When you view it like that, it isn’t hard AT ALL when you give from the heart...

The answer is no. Tithing is a part of the law and Christ fulfilled the law. The point Most people miss is that every aspect of the law points to Christ and his work on the cross. Tithing is no different. How does tithing point to Christ you ask?Simple, he is our tithe and offering. If you read in Deuteronomy about tithing you’ll notice that it talks about you were go to Jerusalem for two years, take a 10th of your crop and you were to bring it with you to Jerusalem. There were three harvest at three mandatory feasts that all Israelites had to go to so this occurred three times a year during the festivals. They were the lord‘s festivals and individuals were to rejoice by spending their money on whatever their heart desires praising God while rejoicing in the abundance that they have received. It says they were to spend it on meat and drink. Not just one but actually hard alcohol as well if your heart so desired. But on the third year they were to take a third of their tithe and give it away to the stranger to the orphan and to the window. Christ ministry started when John the Baptist baptize Him in the Jordan River. Rabbis were always anointed around Age 30 just like Christ. Christ ministered to the Jews only all the way up to the point He was crucified on the cross and offered up. Note, He in fact died on the third year Of his ministry. He is 1/3 of the Godhead (A picture seen in the 1/3 tithe). He died for sinners and was offered up in Jerusalem on the feast to “orphans“ sinners separated from their father in heaven, widows those without a husband that need a kinsman redeemer to redeem them, and strangers. Paul tells us in his epistles that we gentiles were once strangers, but now we have been reconciled to our Father in heaven. Jesus The messiah said he came for the lost children of Israel. In essence like the tithe They kept him all to themselves And rejoiced while he was here. But on the third year tithe or THEE blessing was bestowed upon the stranger the widow and the orphan salvation came to the entire world. An additional note is that scripture says that if the travel was too far for you because your abundance was so great that you could sell or trade your tithe for money to make the burden lighter so you can make the journey and rejoice before the Lord. A correct translation as opposed to money would be silver. Silver in the Bible always typologically points to redemption and blood. If you were far away from the Lord The blessing that you had received became burdensome just like the law. Which is what this represents. Those under the law were under a yoke. Jesus said come to me all you heavy laden for my burden is light. The blessing of the law was exchanged for Christ’s blood because it was a burden no man can bear. But when we exchange the first covenant for the new one, the old wine for the new Jesus takes on that burden through his blood. In the Psalms you’ll find a line where God says the entire volume of the book is about me. Jesus stated to the Pharisees in the Scriptures you seek for eternal life and they are with speak of me. You see the entire book is about Jesus, Jesus is God. He said I did not come to remove the law or destroy it, but to fulfill it. He said not one jot or one tittle will pass away until all is fulfilled. Every detail of the law points to Christ, he is an every Yod and title.... See the picture now? BONUS. Christ was sold for 30 pieces of silver by Judas. Remember what silver represents? Well if you read the Old Testament you’ll note that one of the 613 laws talks about a slave and their value. A man was worth 50 pieces of silver, a woman was 30 pieces of silver and the kid was 20. So why is this in there. Well the bridal price for a bride is also 30 pieces of silver. Christ tells us who the son sets free is free indeed. He purchased us with the 30 pieces of silver and his blood. He bought us at a price a bridle price. He also said we were slaves to sin he purchased us and then set us free. Praise God! All glory to Jesus!

Pastor John doesn't need to beat around the bush here. Simple answer. No. Why? Tithing was an old testament law of Moses which Jesus Christ freed us from because of his death on a cross which freed us from the law. New Testament Christians are not commanded to tithe. Tithing is between the believer and God. If the believer is comfortable and at peace with giving 10% then Ok. The New Testament Christian should follow 2nd Corinthians chapter 9. Pastor John, answer the question without beating around the bush.

"Love fulfills law" is a good and valid quote. We are free to give, not bound to pay. Yes, we should support our local churches. No there is no curse for not giving 10% of our money (or anything else). It is more blessed to give than receive. Tithing under Mosaic law wasn't giving. It was a compulsory from of taxation, now long obsolete.

  • @3brandonross
    @3brandonross 5 лет назад +1

That's a good message, but it still leaves ALOT of questions unanswered? Since the curse of the law is gone for those in Christ, redeemed by faith alone in grace alone by Christ alone. Is God going to punish those who give less than the 10%. Some would say that God's going to take it out in Dr. bills or some nonsense like that. So the blessings of giving remain, but the curse for not giving was taken to the cross. I believe in giving to God and His work. I have benefited from the generosity of God's people when I served as a pastor. I have also given to support pastors. It's just crazy how there can be so many views from godly people on both sides. I want to be spot on when it comes to this issue. The New Testament doesn't seem to put much emphasis on the tithe at all, mainly of free will giving as the Spirit leads. But many pastors beat the tithing drum because they have to keep the machine running. Many people must feel condemned when they can't check their tithing box. This is my concern on how this is being taught. It's either grace or law, no middle ground.

      Brandon Ross,
Definitely Tithing is for the Israelite Only, in the Old Testament Only, in the land
of Israel Only.... There were Only two(2) sources of income that should be tithe
in the that time: The increase of crops in the LAND of ISRAEL, and the increase
of cattle in the LAND of Israel......
Money was never used to Tithes , though money was already in circulation in
      that time...
In the Christian era, The commandment of Giving are MAINLY for your fellow
poor Christians, NOT to the pastors.....
Pastors who collect Tithes don't have a Godly motive in their hearts.....

    • @paeng46
      @paeng46 4 года назад

If you give generously then you will be blessed by God for being that kind (see 2 Cor. 9:6- “he which soweth bountifully shall reap also bountifully”). It is not because of your tithe that God has given you back the increase and blessed you, it is because of your love and generosity. You see, if the churches today will practice tithing, we will be disqualified from the principles and practicality of the commandment. What we give to the church that we deemed as tithes are not the increase of the land from where the people in the Bible got their tithes from. We took it from our salary. Our salary is not the increase of the seed (or crop) that the land brought forth every year (see Deut. 14:22). Salary in Bible is called wage(s), and nowhere in the Bible that believers are commanded to give tithe from their wages. I will not discuss further the practice of tithing in the Old Testament. I will rather explain why tithing in the churches today is a violation of the precepts of giving in 2 Cor. 9:6-8. A tithe literally means a tenth portion of a whole (or 10%). If we give lesser than 10% it is definitely not a tithe; and neither it is if we give more. A tithe is a tithe (10%) in its definition, and it is what it is; hence I said that it violates the principles of giving in 2 Cor. 9:6-8. The apostle Paul writes- “Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver”(v.7). So if we practice tithing then we will be violating the pretext of giving as we “PURPOSETH IN OUR HEARTS”. Why? Because if a believer wants to give more than he ought to tithe then it’s a violation of the tithing rule. It’s not 10% anymore if you give more than you ought to tithe, nor it is tithing when you are giving less. In context, tithing only limits the giver of his ability and generosity to give. The giver cannot give more than 10% if he wishes. Whereas, if he follows the giving principles of 2 Corinthians 9:6-8, he can even give 20% or more, or whatever he he wishes from his abundance. You see now why tithing cannot be practiced in the church today? Because it violates the giving principle of 2 Cor. 9:6-8.

Here is one thing that makes me question the sense of tithing being a requirement for Christians. Many of the churches in the NT were a mix of Jews and Gentiles. Why would tithing be required of Gentiles who never were under the Old Covenant? I cannot recall anywhere where a NT writer tells Christians to tithe.

Many do not understand what (Deut.28:1-14) involves, when it comes to all of those blessings, The Lord promised to Israel. They think that if everyone just paid their tithes, these blessings will follow. That is incorrect doctrine. What do I mean: In verse one, The Lord said "do all His commandments." This wold mean (1) keeping the Seventh Day Sabbath. (2) Paying not just 1st tithe, but also a 2nd tithe, in order to keep THE FEAST OF TABERNACLES. (3) Pay a 3rd tithe, every third year, for the ministers, the widows, the fatherless and poor. (4) Not observing pagan holidays: New Years, Valentine's Day, Lent, Easter, Halloween's Day, Christmas and Sunday, etc. The above and more R the clear commandments of The Lord, in order to receive all the blessings in (Deut.28:1-14). That's Y U got to not just read the word of God, but study, believe, and do it.

    Dear All,
To me, Tithing is about giving glory to the God and loving him with all your heart, your mind and strength.
Please ask yourself, is money bigger than God? Is it bigger than the body of Christ?
Before the law was given, Cain and Abel offered to the God, God accepted Abel's offering but not Cain's, because he was giving with wrong heart and may be out of compulsion. The Lord said, Sin is crouching at your door but you must rule over it.
Pray for the wisdom and the holy spirit. Holy spirit will fill you with joy and understanding when you are giving. For me joy is the key, my love for God is the key. The Lord says I will write my laws in their heart and so you will know what is the right thing to do in accordance to the scriptures.
You will give out of joy in your heart and not so that you can expect to receive ten folds and have prosperity, the Lord will do so if he is pleased and in accordance to his will. Remember the poor lady’s offering in Temple of Jerusalem, she was praised by Jesus.
Give with right heart, give while practicing justice and mercy.
Furthermore, it’s not our job to decide what happens with the tithes, it’s for Pastor to answer to the Lord if they use it for their own prosperity or for the glory of the God. Leave the judgement to the Lord.
Please get down on your knee and pray to the Lord for understanding and Holy Spirit.

If a pastor is receiving a salary from his organizational denomination that is his wages of which he deserves. The joy of cheerful giving should be used not to "double pay" a salaried employee of the church looking for "double pay" to fleece his own flock, but examples of our brothers and sisters in our communities and congregations who represent the needs that the Levitical priest hood had because the giving to them was because they were the brothers of the other 11 tribes who were granted portions! In the old testament, however, the greed was so high even then they continually refused to even do that then.

Odd that this basic concept of tithing has been complicated by people on both sides of the argument. Are we to tithe now? Of course not. Are we to give? Of course yes. So what is the rule? The rule is very simple: Romans 14:23 kind of sums it up: "and everything that does not come from faith is sin".

I wish Pastor MacArthur would have just said what he wrote on his own web site (below), instead of sorta hedging at the end of this clip. I also wish a prominent biblicist like Mr. MacArthur would simply say, "Preaching the tithe to Christians is unbiblical and therefore abusive." When we place ANYTHING upon the shoulders of believers as if it is God's command, when it is not, this is not only legalism, it is abuse. Getting preachers to be honest and forthright on this subject is like getting them to be honest about Freemasonry. The Southern Baptist Convention has hedged in this subject forever, having had SBC presidents who were longstanding Freemasons. When a group has allowed error for so long (be it Masonry or tithe preaching), they are loathe to let it go, especially when they are so heavily invested!
    From: www.gty.org/library/questions/QA144/does-god-require-me-to-give-a-tithe-of-all-i-earn
New Testament believers are never commanded to tithe. Matthew 22:15-22 and Romans 13:1-7 tell us about the only required giving in the church age, which is the paying of taxes to the government. Interestingly enough, we in America presently pay between 20 and 30 percent of our income to the government--a figure very similar to the requirement under the theocracy of Israel.
The guideline for our giving to God and His work is found in 2 Corinthians 9:6-7: "Now this I say, he who sows sparingly shall also reap sparingly; and he who sows bountifully shall also reap bountifully. Let each one do just as he has purposed in his heart; not grudgingly or under compulsion; for God loves a cheerful giver."

Tithing was initiated before the Law in Abraham (and probably Abel). It was always an act of worship; it should be lavish and from an adoring heart. It was given to God to be used for the temple and support of the priesthood. It was 10 percent (or 20 depending on how you calculate it) plus there were to be free will (what ever you felt in your own heart) offerings for different things. Tithing and joyful generous giving is the norm. Jesus Himself "commanded" that those who proclaim the gospel should live of the gospel (I Cor. 9:14). What should we support the gospel with? There was no change of amount expressed from OT to NT because it was intended to be carried forward as it was before the Law to the Law and beyond the Law to grace.Tithing is still the norm for supporting the proclamation of gospel, (note that Paul bases his conclusion "don't muzzle the ox", on the OT) which includes the buildings and their upkeep that we gladly use, and generous giving is exercised when ever and with how much we desire, i.e. for the poor (Mk. 14:7; II Cor. 8-9). Tithe and offerings, God's standard, demonstrate the starting point of our giving not the outer boundary. He says it is the minimum expression of giving as a part of our worship. If we use the Law as a standard (not for compulsion) for what love is (how we treat our brothers, etc.) in so many other areas, why would we not use it in regards as to what God has said is good in His sight in this area? You can choose your own standard, but God's is better. I choose God's choice for my financial act of worship and support of the kingdom on earth. Tithing and hilarious giving (II Cor. 9:7), no better way. God will certainly judge us regarding our giving. Best, as always, to conform to His standards.

So that Grace may abound.. No. In grace we never sin ( trangress the law). What God has commanded us to do , better we add nothing to it or take out anything from it. Adding makes us more righteous than God, we become law giversi.e violating the first commandment, and remove anything makes us unrigtheous or rebel.. God's way is best.. I lately came to the simple truth that tithing is not a commandment, there us no proof in God's word. God wants us to be cheerful givers and give from our heart and also give whatever is in the goodness of one's heart "without putting one self to a point where it may hurt ones finances". If one gave a dollar and that made that person grateful, thankful and joyful because that is all one can give, that person will be blessed as much as one who is able and wants to give huge amounts of money because he could. God would never want to hurt one by demanding we must give a certain percentage. One quick question; if those who say they live by an old commandment of tithing, why aren't they living by all other old testament commandments? Just saying....Peace

I have friends that believe tithing is a part of the Old Testament Covenant, but tithing preceded the law (Genesis 14:17-20). They site 2 Corinthians 9:7 as an argument against tithing - every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver. What most fail to realize is this scripture has nothing to do with tithing. It is about helping other saints. Paul starts the chapter by proclaiming his confidence that the Corinthians will help other believers. “1 For as touching the ministering to the saints, it is superfluous for me to write to you: 12 For I know the forwardness of your mind, for which I boast of you to them of Macedonia, that Achaia was ready a year ago; and your zeal hath provoked very many. Can it be any more clear? We are to help our brothers and sisters in Christ, but let us do it, not begrudgingly, but of a cheerful heart. It’s yet another example of the enemy twisting the truth as he did in the garden.
As much as I’m distressed by this misinterpretation of the word, I’m also concerned about those who believe they can tithe 11, 15, or 20 percent. It represents a subtle drifting into works that denies the truth of God. Less we forget, his word is settled in heaven (Psalms 119:89) Saul is a great example. God commands Saul to destroy the Amalekites for their disdain of Israel as they were leaving Egypt (Genesis 15:3). But what does Saul do. “Saul and his army let Agag live, and they also spared the best sheep and cattle (1 Samuel 15:9) The sheep and cattle, as the verse clearly states, were the best of the flock and would make an excellent offering to God. “But I did listen to the LORD!” Saul answered. “He sent me on a mission, and I went. I captured King Agag and destroyed his nation. 21 All the animals were going to be destroyed[e] anyway. That’s why the army brought the best sheep and cattle to Gilgal as sacrifices to the LORD your God.” (1 Samuel 15: 20-21) Like Saul, most believe they can bring God something better than what he requires, but they error. They can do God a favor. Like Saul, a good offering is the wrong offering when it’s not what God says he wants. For this reason, we know that obedience is better than sacrifice (1 Samuel 15:22) And Samuel said, Hath the LORD as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the LORD? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to hearken than the fat of rams. God only delights in what He said. Bring God what He wants and He will be pleased. Did we not learn as much from Cain?
The 11, 15, 20 percent tithes teaches us that our works, our offering, is better than what God says he wants - 10 percent. Anything more than 10% is simply an offering. If we are not careful, we lead the congregation to value their relationship based on who “tithed” the most. This is a dangerous lie from the enemy. Jesus is out tithe to eternal life. Jesus is what God wanted. Anything more is works. Bring our 11, 12, and 20 percent tithes all we want, but it will not give us salvation.
My wife loves a Pepsi with peanuts in the bottle and once wanted me to buy her a Pepsi and peanuts. Since Coke, in the minds of many, is a better product than Pepsi, I purchased a Coke and peanuts. I gleefully returned to the car with the Coke and peanuts. In my mind, I went above what was required. To my surprise, my wife was furious. She hates Coke and would not drink it. It was not what she “said” she wanted. Why should God be any different? We often forget that the forbidden tree was one of the knowledge of good and evil. The good things we do, if they are what God requires, will lead to death (Genesis 2:16-17)

Deidei Doubra These guys couldn’t be more wrong and the sad thing is they are supposed to be biblical scholars !!!!!!! First of all the law of tithing was not established by the Mosaic law, tithing was first established by Job!!!!!! Job is the first book written not Genesis.. Before the law of Moses men sacrificed to God “ Cain and Abel” after the law was given the Levite was the only ones allowed to make sacrifice for the people That means Job lived before Moses and Abram, because the text states that he was the riches man in the east not Abram!!!!!!!! So Job made sacrifices according to the number of children that he had now go Count how many children he had!!!!! It’s “10” one sacrifice would have been 10% but he did 1 for each child 100% over the sufficient amount that’s why he was the richest man in the the east and God put a hedge of protection around him and his family !!!!!! The same blessings that God said he would do in Malachi 3:10-11. Abram gave tithe to “Melchizedek” the high priest of God Genesis 14:20 then God blessed him and changed his name To Abraham!!!!!!! So the law of tithing was Established before the circumcision of Abraham “Genesis 17:11”!!!!!!! Tithing was and is a natural & spiritual law that God incorporated into the mosaic law to make sure that Israel would be protected and blessed by him but only if they obeyed!!!!!!!!! Let me give you a New Testament example to the “CHURCH” Paul wrote these words to the Roman Church in Romans11:16 For if the firstfruit “tithe” is holy, the lump is also holy; and if the root is holy, so are the branches.!!!!!!! Paul says the tithe is Holy and so is the Lump meaning the rest of your income is blessed by God!!!!! He’s talking to the church my friend... you can live off give and it shall be given and if you sow sparingly you shall also reap sparingly but if you sow bountifully you shall reap bountifully but those spiritual laws want make your income Holy unto God nor is he obligated to rebuke the devourer for your sake only tithing brings the Promises of God to thithers not sowing and reaping !!!!! Read the Bible for yourself and don’t be fooled by these guys with no Holy Spirit leading them in the scriptures!!!!!!!! And if you haven’t experienced the baptism of the Holy Spirit you should ask the lord to fill you he’s ready willing and able too!!!!! Jesus said when he “ The Holy Spirit” has come he will reveal all things too you!!!!!!! I would go a little deeper but I think if you search these Scriptures you’ll see it for yourself....

I like the idea of tithing but I don't like the theology that I hear nowadays about it. I think the main question is how do we financially support the people who serve us in our local church? When we ask that question we see that the NT has a lot to say about the topic. 1 Corinthians 9:1-18 is very conspicuous about it, you just cannot miss it. Note that Paul uses the law (Deuteronomy 25:4) to press home the point that he is making. In simple terms, Paul is saying that whatever that was done then to support the people serving in the temple is very much valid for those labouring for the gospel of Jesus Christ under the new covenant. It is their right before the Lord to live off the gospel and therefore it is our obligation before the Lord to fulfil it. I know that tithing is being abused big time by charlatans so on and so forth but the last thing you want in giving a presentation like this is to leave your audience with the impression that they have no responsibility before the Lord towards supporting financially those who are serving in their local church. Other passages such as Galatians 6:6 is also worth looking at. Once we have established that, all of a sudden Malachi 3:10 becomes very relevant to both dispensations. Passages such as "the Lord love a cheerful giver..." was given by Paul in completely unrelated circumstances which had nothing to do with supporting financially the local church. I rest my case

Our hearts are deceitful and so the enemy will create all the confusion on simple God principles. We are to give generously and love others. But that is in addition to the Lord’s 10%. He gave us all that we own. Mega churches have abused tithes but won’t judgement come from the Lord. Is He a Lord who is blind to wickedness? We must stand firm in what the Bible says. We cannot serve two masters, either God or money. Tithing should be done out of love not reluctance. We need to learn more on How to trust God not on what we can see. It’s super hard though.

Whereas, if he follows the giving principles of 2 Corinthians 9:6-8, he can even give 20% or more, or whatever he he wishes to from his abundance. You see now why tithing cannot be practiced in the church today? Because it violates the giving principle of 2 Cor. 9:6-8.

Karen Santos Wow! This is typical mainstream Christianity, and I say that in the most respectful way possible. Mainstream Christianity all ways try to get away from the Law. Rhetorical question, what Commandment would a person not teach thier children? Tithing is taught as a commandment in the old testament and the pastor says, "why should we do less," but he never answered the question with the bible. The commanded tithe was NEVER money in the bible, it was food, and it went to the Levite, the fatherless, the orphan, and the stranger in the land. Deuteronomy 14:22-29. The text even says, if the way be too long to carry the tithe, then thou shall turn it into money. That's a dead give away that the tithe was NEVER MONEY. look at the context in every tithing verse and you'll see its food. The truth of the matter is, we can't tithe as the bible laid it out because God took certain elements needed to do so away, ie, we don't know who the Levites are, we are not in Israel, and even if we were, the temple is not there. Psychologically, pastors know that when they start talking about giving they are trying to get 10 percent of your money before taxes out of your pocket, and they Go right to Malachi 3:10 to do it. Which is a commandment by God for that time. They follow it up with the story of Ananias and Sapphira which has absolutely nothing to do with tithing. In the New Testament, it's true the pastor should be paid for his work, but the pastors lips are always supposed to speak the truth according to the bible. To which God ask the question, why pay for that that's not bread? Isaiah 55:2. I left the message with the hope that you would fact check me and understand that The tithe was never money in the bible.

Giving or donating should be based of if the pastor is teaching truth. I really get satisfaction out of helping people on the street with food or money. I'll do that before I give it to a church any day. I do support where I learn though, but they teach that we can't tithe as its laid out in the bible, and actually show why. Peace.

Jesus came not to abolish the Law but to fulfill the Law. He has done so on the Cross. Tithe from your heart not peer pressure. And if you want to be legal8stic you must tithe 23% of your income. @Cortez Bailey. The answer is NO.
Read the book of Malachi chapter 1 to 4. Malachi was talking to the corrupt priest who was stealing the tithes.
The burden of the word of the Lord to Israel by Malachi.
      Malachi 1:1 KJV
And now, O ye priests, this commandment is for you. If ye will not hear, and if ye will not lay it to heart, to give glory unto my name, saith the Lord of hosts, I will even send a curse upon you, and I will curse your blessings: yea, I have cursed them already, because ye do not lay it to heart. Behold, I will corrupt your seed, and spread dung upon your faces, even the dung of your solemn feasts; and one shall take you away with it. And ye shall know that I have sent this commandment unto you, that my covenant might be with Levi, saith the Lord of hosts. My covenant was with him of life and peace; and I gave them to him for the fear wherewith he feared me, and was afraid before my name. The law of truth was in his mouth, and iniquity was not found in his lips: he walked with me in peace and equity, and did turn many away from iniquity. For the priest's lips should keep knowledge, and they should seek the law at his mouth: for he is the messenger of the Lord of hosts.
      Malachi 2:1‭-‬7 KJV
Behold, I will send my messenger, and he shall prepare the way before me: and the Lord, whom ye seek, shall suddenly come to his temple, even the messenger of the covenant, whom ye delight in: behold, he shall come, saith the Lord of hosts. But who may abide the day of his coming? and who shall stand when he appeareth? for he is like a refiner's fire, and like fullers' soap: And he shall sit as a refiner and purifier of silver: and he shall purify the sons of Levi, and purge them as gold and silver, that they may offer unto the Lord an offering in righteousness. Then shall the offering of Judah and Jerusalem be pleasant unto the Lord , as in the days of old, and as in former years. And I will come near to you to judgment; and I will be a swift witness against the sorcerers, and against the adulterers, and against false swearers, and against those that oppress the hireling in his wages, the widow, and the fatherless, and that turn aside the stranger from his right, and fear not me, saith the Lord of hosts. Will a man rob God? Yet ye have robbed me. But ye say, Wherein have we robbed thee? In tithes and offerings. Ye are cursed with a curse: for ye have robbed me, even this whole nation. Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the Lord of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it. And I will rebuke the devourer for your sakes, and he shall not destroy the fruits of your ground; neither shall your vine cast her fruit before the time in the field, saith the Lord of hosts.
      Malachi 3:1‭-‬5‭, ‬8‭-‬11 KJV
After you've read the book of Malachi. Go back to the book of Nehemiah chapter 13 you would see that the priest was already stealing the tithes and God curse the priest.
Tithe in the Bible was always only food from the land of Israel CROPS, LIVESTOCKS, NOT MONEY! Notice Malachi 3:10 says the tithes of "MEAT " Not money.
Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye pay tithe of mint and anise and cummin, and have omitted the weightier matters of the law, judgment, mercy, and faith: these ought ye to have done, and not to leave the other undone.
Matthew 23:23 KJV. Also talking about herbs not money.
Jesus still talking to the news before Jesus' death burial and resurrection.
Watch Phd Russel Earl Kelly on tithing.
New testament giving is found in 2 Corinthians 9:6-7. NO ONE TTIHES today, we are not under the law we are under GRACE.

Giving cheerfully is not a problem, (10% tithe, and offerings) what started to get me is who am I giving to and what are they doing to the money (sure... that's between them and GOD). NO not really, I giving and they are suppose to be doing in a godly manner with the filthy lucer, but most money takers are not, and are using it in a ungodly manner. I can tell you all some stories... Paul was a Tent Maker, he provide for himself, others, travel, and the establishment of churches: he was busy about the business of our Father GOD; I would have loved to give to a ministry such as his. I do not believe there are any physical churches worthy to receive money any more: they do not preach Truth, but words that tickle the ears and tell people what they want to hear: they hate to lose paying customers, and do not want to offend anyone, even satan. Me and my wife still give offerings to different ministries and at church, but our 10% tithe goes to a ministry that GOD charged us with: we likewise are Tent Makers, self-supporting Christian/Biblical/Pastoral Counselors, and GOD gives the increase. We have what we need, and to help others: we know for sure that we are giving cheerfully to a ministry that is doing some good, and sowing into good ground. If you are taking care of your Father's business then you use that tithe to take care of HIS business: you will probably be doing more labor for the Kingdom then some of pastors and preachers and teachers, and etc. The end time heavenly business will be taken care of by people such as this, YOU.

Isaiah 53:5, But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes, we are healed. For salvation, people just need to follow the way they did it in Acts? They were baptized in the water and of the spirit. Here's why! The gospel is the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. If we are to follow him, we must do the same thing. Death= repentance, Burial = baptism, and resurrection = being filled with the Holy Ghost and rising again from the dead. That's what Acts 2:38 is.We must obey the gospel, 2 Thessalonians 1:8-9, in flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that OBEY NOT THE GOSPEL of our Lord Jesus Christ... Matthew 7:21-23, Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that DOETH THE WILL OF MY FATHER which is in Heaven. St John 3:3-5, EXCEPT a man be born of WATER AND OF THE SPIRIT, he cannot enter into the kingdom of GOD.We can't come up with our own gospel. Galatians 1:8-9, But though we or an angel from heaven preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed. Don't be cursed. One way for all people. Jews, Gentiles, and Samaritan. Our salvation has to match-up with the scriptures and no scriptures on the subject can be taken away.Eternity is TOOO long to be WRONG! st, John 5:39, Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me.God told Noah exactly how to be saved, how he must build the ark. Noah didn't come up with his own plan like people are doing today. A sinner's prayer, you just have to believe, etc which is not in the bible. The gospels show what Christ has done on the cross for us. The book of Acts shows us the beginning of Christ's Church and how to enter the Church, obeying Acts 2:38. The letters were written to the Church to show us how to behave now that we are born again into the Church. It's better to walk alone than to walk with a crowd going in the wrong direction. Are we supposed to follow the teachings of the apostles? Acts 2:42, They continued steadfastly in the apostle's doctrines. Ephesians 2:20, We are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief cornerstone. Jesus Christ truly loves you. Do you truly love him? If you believe in this message, help spread it in the name of Jesus Christ. God bless you!

Tithing did not originate in the Mosaic institution. God, in teaching Israel the required tithing procedures under their covenant with Him, was simply regulating a practice we see in the patriarchs centuries earlier. To discuss tithing as a matter subject to law and grace is to ignore it's origins and purpose. It is a principle of God that transcends history, geography, culture or religion.

There's no biblical reference to tithing as a "principle" and the historical evidence of tithing that precedes the Bible was customary by pagan practices, at times religious in nature. Today's version of tithing has no biblical precedent.

In Jacob's dream, God said He's giving Jacob the Promised Land. In response, Jacob makes a vow to give God a tenth of what God's giving him, so Jacob vowed to give God a tenth of the Promised Land. In Leviticus 27:30 God says a tithe of the Promised Land belongs to Him, because it did, Jacob had already given it to Him. This verse isn't a command to tithe, it's a statement of ownership. In the next verse, God gives instructions on how to redeem the tithe. The entire 27th chapter is about how to redeem property that's been given to God through a vow, so this confirms that the tithe was given to God through a vow, Jacob's vow. It's a shame nobody realizes that Jacob's tithe and the Levitical tithe are one and the same, and that God never commanded the Israelites to tithe. TheIsraelitesDidNotTithe.com

"If God will be with me (He was) and will watch over me on this journey I am taking (He did) and will give me food to eat and clothes to wear (He did) so that I return safely to my father's household (he did...see Gen 35:27)...then of all that you give me I will give you a tenth." God honored his end of the vow and so did Jacob. The proof is in Leviticus 27 where in a chapter that's all about how to redeem property that has been given to God through a vow (very important, don't miss that!), God says a tithe of everything from the land belonged to Him (and He even gave instructions on how to redeem it). That is, it had already been given to him through a vow. Don't get hung up on the conditional "if"; the church has it backwards. True tithing isn't commanded by the receiver, it's freely given by the giver. It was Jacob, not God, who initiated the tithe. God never commanded that a tithe be given; He only commanded that the tithe that He owned which was given to Him by Jacob be collected by the Levites, whom He gave it to.

The commandments are not just limited to The Ten Commandments. Please read the book of Leviticus, it has many more commandments which were given to the nation of Israel. Now, it depends if cus the commandments in Leviticus were given to Jews and not Gentiles as in 2 Corinthians 9:6-7 But this I say: He who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and he who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. So let each one give as he purposes in his heart, not grudgingly or of necessity; for God loves a cheerful giver.
