I would really love to see an entire series about AV-8B tutorial. Almost all the stuff on YT is out dated or rubbish, really few good things remain. Moreover, with recent updates lots of stuff has changed and would be cool to see a review of them.
Admittedly the Harrier is one of the modules I picked up a while ago and despite completing the start up and take procedure I got distracted and never went back to it. I've recently come back to DCS and I'm pretty much starting from a clean slate due to how much I've forgotten. This video has really got me considering learning the Harrier over any of the other options I currently have available.
I just bought the Harrier on Steam minutes ago, can't wait to begin learning it! And I'm excited for more of your superb teaching videos on it, as well. It was a toss up between purchasing the A-10C or the Harrier. The Hawg is awesome, too, but I'll stick with the lovely low-fidelity A-10A for now, and get the C or C II in the Steam Summer sale. As a side note I just bought the lovely Mirage, too...tried it out on the free ten day trial on the non-Steam DCS version and fell in love. Ya have a good day, TP! :-)
First DCS flight since October - Got the harrier airborne using this guide. My HUD throttle display didn’t do the hexagon thing when I open it up, but probably missed a setting.
Nice vid Pascal, just a heads up (this is something a lot people have been misunderstanding from the manual) you move the throttle forward into idle as soon as you see RPM increase not at 9.2%, you also wanna bring your flaps up to Cruise while on the ground for shore operations, you set Auto or STOL when you are about to line up. Another thing to note is that the INS mode Selector Knob(giggity) should go to IFA not NAV as you have a working GPS on the Harrier so you couple both the INS to the GPS. Keep up the good work my guy o7
Aaron is completely correct, also taking chocks off before engine start is an ED bug under investigation, not because they will get sucked into the engine, irl chocks have to be used on start up as the brake system has no pressure in it, only once the engine is running does the brake system pressurise to hold the parking brakes on, engine idle thrust is enough to move the aircraft hence the chocks use.
Picked up this module 14 months ago, never flown it to my shame .Watching this vid has really got my curiosity running, love the Harrier always have.Great posting many thanks.
Nice vid, bookmarked for later when I'll go back to the Harrier. Also how did you get the kneeboard without the border, is it a setting in kneeboardbuilder?
Ifa takes as much time as a standard alignment, but allows you to line and take off while doing so, it's not longer. Once the aircraft is aligned, switch to ifa, not to nav, that way you about ins drift The wheel chocks is an ED bug, not standard procedure. Normally there's stay on until ready to taxi. Rather tan pull back on the stick, gently rotate your nozzles, even for conventional take offs, it'll put less stress on your wheels and will produce a smoother transition
When I was on Harriers as ground crew in the RAF it was us that input the INS on the walk around plus the APU would be started to get the engine started and you did not have anyone check the sidewinders and remove their noddy caps and finally the chocks would be the last thing removed before taxi but apart from those it was close.
Bought the Harrier - never flown it - now I know how to lol Great video as always... must stop watching DCS vids and do more DCS lol You using TrackIR?
I'm thinking of purchasing this air craft, but need to ask, can it be used like the other planes I have ie: keyboard as opposed to mouse to click on the controls in the cockpit? I've master the keyboard controls with the other jets I have and find it less of a distraction by not having to click on things with the mouse. That's the only thing putting me off the AV-8B at the moment. If you could advise, then it would be really appreciated.
Yes it is, the weapons are easy to use, it’s slow enough as a “fast jet” that your brain can catch up. The Vertical takeoff and landing stuff is also great fun and satisfying when done
I'm surprised that you didn't use the water injection before takeoff. I don't have DCS yet, but I thought you were supposed to always use H2O when taking off or landing.
I have a request for the next video regarding radios would it be possible for you to do the start up by turning on radios first so that you can ask for start up if that makes sense.
Harriers have a GTS (Gas turbine starter) basically like an APU but it hooks up to the accessory gearbox and spools up the main engine until it reaches idle.

I don't even plan to get the Harrier, but I'm going to watch anyways because your videos are so interesting. Keep up the good work!
Thank you and you won’t regret it.
I literally recommend all of you to get the Harrier. It's a great fun little plane

I'll be cracking on with some Harrier stuff soon. Lots of new projects coming to the channel.
I am a Viper guy but love watching folks fly the other modules. All of them so interesting.

Thanks for the update and insights. I will include it in my next video.

@@Auntystatic Fixed by ED now at least.
Great video ^^ Rather handy timing since I got the harrier for Christmas but have yet to touch it. This makes makes it far more approachable
Thanks a bunch! Just picked up the Harrier. (Merry Christmas to me.)
"EEAAAAUUUUHHHHAHHHHHHHH" has made me cry with laughter and my ears bleed, lucky me 😂
Nice one..my next module too 👍
Picked up this module 14 months ago, never flown it to my shame .Watching this vid has really got my curiosity running, love the Harrier always have.Great posting many thanks.
Thanks for watching. It’s a fantastic module by RAZBAM, the fact that they’re working on the FRS.1 is even better.
Just picked this model up today. Great video tonnes of help. Thanks
Would be nice to see more for sure! I'm learning the Harrier myself. And I'm a big dummy.
Nice vid, bookmarked for later when I'll go back to the Harrier. Also how did you get the kneeboard without the border, is it a setting in kneeboardbuilder?
No, default. The kneeboarding were updated recently, including the excellent “pin” function.

Bought the Harrier - never flown it - now I know how to lol
Great video as always... must stop watching DCS vids and do more DCS lol
You using TrackIR?
I record most vids with trackir but fly a lot in VR
@@TacticalPascale Ive also got a Quest 2 - never used it in DCS! --- -waiting for your Dummies guide to setting everything up in DCS 😉
Top Videos Sir.
No such thing as a dummy, just someone who hasn’t learned it yet.
Nice
Great job TP

I wouldn’t be able to make a good recommendation as I haven’t mastered keyboard and mouse. I have landed with kbm on a carrier....once.
R u going to cont the series on this. Also how did you adjust the horizon. I am new to the game
Yes I will be.
How do i get the nose wheel Steuerung Button in controls because i cant find it????
Is the harrier still good as a DCS beginner?
Yes it is, the weapons are easy to use, it’s slow enough as a “fast jet” that your brain can catch up. The Vertical takeoff and landing stuff is also great fun and satisfying when done
good but you didnt specify what button to press for nose wheel steering
This is epic. How do you turn on switches with the mouse that fast? I’m scrolling for days…
Practice, practice, practice
@@TacticalPascale haha! Damn I meant just dials - is it click and drag or a keybind?!
Click and drag
I'm surprised that you didn't use the water injection before takeoff. I don't have DCS yet, but I thought you were supposed to always use H2O when taking off or landing.
Not needed for a conventional takeoff
I have a request for the next video regarding radios would it be possible for you to do the start up by turning on radios first so that you can ask for start up if that makes sense.
Easy enough: Battery on - insert request.
@@TacticalPascale i tried that already but could not get a response i will try again lol thank you
Or ask for ground power, you wouldn’t need a radio for that; shout out the cockpit.
Can the harrier be flown without hotas?
Yes
what is the button to enable the nose wheel steering
The little switch under the flaps which has NSW written at the bottom of it. Or you can set a keybind.
my heads up display wont turn on...
Tactical Pascale , more like Mr.Mina
it is indeed. how are you Abdulaziz?
@@TacticalPascale Never been better
Thank You, I Bought the Module a while ago, and can barely Fly this THING because the official Tutorials Suck.
Working on more over the next few weeks.
How do we remove wheel chocks?????
/ F8 F4 F1 I think from memory, press / to get ground crew menu.
Awsome thank you very much SIR!! sorry I'm new to this, I'm playing off keyboard, one day you'll teach me😁? Awsome flight you got there thanks again 👍
Did you enter an incorrect Northing?
No, it jumped to “3” after I input 4
Use the CAS page on harrier to get nozzle rotation speed
It's the VREST page
No APU use here? I always thought when starting up a turbine you always had to start with an APU, then once RPM is satisfactory, fire the engine.
Harriers have a GTS (Gas turbine starter) basically like an APU but it hooks up to the accessory gearbox and spools up the main engine until it reaches idle.
