The finalness is illusory. If the calendar were different, it wouldn't be the last day of the year. The only thing that changes is a number. You get one day older every other day of the year. You only get a year older at any two days one year apart.
Sorry if I'm misinterpreting your comment but are you implying New Year is somehow less valuable because it is artificial? Same would go for all holidays as well. It doesn't matter if anything actually changes, it only matters if you feel like it does. A lot of things in society are more associated with what people think of them rather than what they physically are (like the nominal value of money, for example). Also the notion that there is some relation between the time by which cosmic events occur and the time intervals by which a person is commonlly perceived to get older (the concept of "age") seems quite man-made to me; as are all ways of measuring anything ever (which also uses numbers). New Year is just an excuse/occasion to reflect on yourself and spend quality time with people you like.
@dobrinhristov3940 I meant what I said. Nothing more. Basically just saying the "that's done, now this" feeling is one that applies continuously and more concretely when making life changes than a number on the date.

But I think it also matters a lot what meaning you are putting into the number on the date changing. If you truly feel that by that event, something about you changes; if you change your way of thinking because of that belief (although it seems to be quite rare that someone genuinely changes with New Year), then surely it will have a non-neglectable influence on your life as a motivator?

I feel more uncertain than excited for the coming yea4. I hope I final start doing fun things in college, but the future here in the U.S. is looking grim for me, my friends, and my close family if the dude recently elected is successful with a lot of the things he said he'd do.
