To think McGregor Road was once a quiet little street, now a four lane dual carriageway that serves as a major thoroughfare in and out of Pakenham from the freeway!
Now I know why they’re replacing the Westinghouse Pedestrian mechs, which I seriously think is a little over the top in my opinion. I would have installed the new swing gates on the east side of Racecourse Road as I’ve seen a number of pedestrian cross the tracks at that location (which doesn’t have any proper pedestrian crossings at it!), which will likely increase now that the racecourse has been redeveloped into a housing estate. Also, this crossing has a SERIOUS problem with the the amount of time the boom gates are closed for. There can be multiple trains crossing here during one activation, which sometimes can cross several minutes apart due to their being no vacant platforms at the station.
Nice video! Visited this crossing when it had hybrid bells back in August 2013, shame their gone now.
I live not too far away from this crossing and I can confirm that they were replaced in March 2014.
Thanks for the info! Was wondering when they were replaced. Such a waste as they sounded quite healthy from memory.
@@trainman758 They were certainly healthy, but of course Metro said "No, we're taking them away!".
TrickyMario7654 Just another typical stupid Metro decision!

Nice crossing and video! Interesting how the pedestrian gates use red & white stripes.
McGregor Road Pakenham is on the Pakenham line
This crossing was announced earlier today to be removed as a part of the 25 crossings that have been added to the original 50 to be removed.
