Actually, you'll notice that a lot of that loud hissing sound disappears after the rotors are pushed up to full RPM. That's because the APU is still running. Once the rotor power is pushed to the "fly" position and the main rotor settles at 101%, quick check for stability across the powertrain, and then shut the APU off.

in case of an emergency on some helicopters the main rotor blades are disconnected via explosive carges and the crew extracted with an ejection seat, not sure though if it is the case on this model
The no ejection seat on helicopters generally except maybe some experimental model. And to get in and out of the Apache the side glass on the canopy opens upwards on the right side
In and out through simple vertically hinged doors on the right side of the aircraft. They can enter and exit when the blades are turning without any issues. In the event of an emergency, they ride it all the way to the ground; no ejection seats or rotor detachment capability.
Not a troll, actual question for someone with experience. This process seems to take a long time, what do they do in a scramble situation to shorten the take off time? .
I'm currently reading "Apache" by Ed Macy, an actual Apache pilot. What you see in this video is actually hella fast. The actual start-up process can take up to 30 minutes if weapon systems and everyting else has to be fired up. They can get it going in about ten minutes if they have to, but then they need to fire up some of the systems while already airborne, not knowing if they'll work correctly.
Scrambling any aircraft takes time. They got out of there in a hurry in this video, but they could theoretically scramble quicker (but only slightly so) if they didn't have to worry about airspace restrictions, air traffic control, and if they overlook some startup procedures. Most of the time, the extra 10-15 minutes it takes to get one of these beasts started has little bearing on the mission, especially with advanced planning and good battle tactics. Usually these aircraft are distantly kept in a scramble ready state and are continuously maintained by military personnel, and even aside fork that they are always operating out of a defended airbase or naval craft. If there was ever a need to get out of a place faster than what an Apache can do, something has gone very very wrong.
So the ground crew can communicate with the pilot, same as with commercial airliners during startup and pushback. Used to make sure the area is clear and safe to start engines and taxi etc

I’d like an Apache attack helicopter. If I had one I’d fly it to my old school. First I’d take out the labs and then I’d type into the attack computer “Mr Cragg, chemistry teacher.” Blow ‘im to bits. And then I’d go looking for Tom Donaldson. I’d be hovering just down the road from his house, there. And he’d see us, but I’d duck down behind the trees, and he thinks he’s safe right? And he’s just about to put the key in his front door, and I come up from behind the hedge - “HELLO YER BASTARD!” - He panics, right? And he goes in the house, so I get the 30 millimetre canon and I take out the fish pond, Koi carp in there a couple of rounds each, right? And then I just tilt the helicopter over to one side and the machine gun bullets is chewing up the drive, right? He comes out. “Oh no! Not me Triumph Stag! I’ve just had it resprayed!” I cut it in half, right? And then he goes “Ahhh!” He runs up onto the garage roof. I say “Right. This is for you, Tom.” He goes, “No, no!” He’s begging us, he’s begging us man, “No, please don’t!” BOOM!! And then I fly off to Cornwall and I just smash in the sea in a big ball of flames.

And I don't know of any helicopters that are so fragile. Maintaining these things is the reason I cry at night
I love the sound of the starters engaging, reminds me of the hueys and cobras i work on.
APU engages to start first turbine engine. Than the pilot uses bleed air off the 1st engine to start the second turbine.
I love how the turbines are the overwhelming noise, until the rotor goes to full speed, then the rotor sound kinda drowns out the turbine.
When the rotors were taking over, I thought “this thing means business”!
