Sockeye Salmon are on the tastiest salmon on planet Earth and I'm fortunate to have this fishery right in my backyard. My favorite way to prepare these fish is on a cedar plank. The flavor and texture is unmatched by any method and you can wow your guests with the presentation and aroma of the cedar. In this recipe I use a sake, soy, and honey marinade. Enjoy!
The taru sakes can be hard to find away from specialty Japanese stores but you can have it delivered right to your home from Tippsy which I've found to be the best online source for sake. You can order it here and save $15 using this link: tippsysake.refr.cc/tylerhicks
The cedar planks are available here: amzn.to/3LABaSp

More catch and cook that looks hella good.
Nice, very nice.
I've been cedar planking for years . Here's what I've figured out . Soak plank for at least 4 hours. Leave skin on . Place fillett on cedar plank skin side down. Spray Pam on fillet. Lightly. Lightly sprinkle garlic powder. Lightly. Chop fresh rosemary very fine and sprinkle onto fillett. Use charcoal grill. Get charcoal hot place onto grill and cook for 15-20 min depending on thickness . The fat left on skin flavors the fish . King salmon from Kodiak is the best I've found because fat layer is thicker. I've made this for lots of relatives and they all sat its the best they have had. I agree.
Your lucky to be able to fish for sockeye, I'm jealous hopefully it may open in the future for me. I'm in British Columbia Canada 🇨🇦
Umm we have Sockeye fishing on the Fraser in BC every x2 years.
Looks very good 👍
Holy combat fishing! 😳😳
Awesome stuff! 👌
No better way to cook salmon! It's always tradition for me to cook my first spring Chinook of the year on a cedar plank over the traeger. Nothing better than eating salmon fresh, never frozen, on a cedar plank. The fish is a perfect vessel for the smoke flavor. The only sockeye I've ever caught in the lower river was when the season was closed but I'd love to tag one this year.
Awesome video!! I am new to sockeye fishing and hoping to get my first shot at them here in BC, Canada this year. Learn so much from your videos, thanks SMP!!
Looks delicious 🤤
Looks delicious! Hopefully I can make it out this year! Can't wait for July!
If you ever make a video or short on the history of the fishery I'd love to watch it!
Looks great man. More catch and cook videos will definitely be watched by me if you post em. (I watch most of your vids, but I especially like seeing other people's recipes.)
That guy following you in the green yak is driving me crazy
🤣
Hey Tyler, as usual great content. Do you mind sharing what net were you using? I am looking for a bigger one for catching salmon in my kayak. thanks again!
I use Range Nets rubber coated nylon nets. Get at least a 22" wide net for salmon.
Why would you do this to us in April! Now I'll have Brewster on the brain for the next three months!
What is the limit and any slot size for sockeye? I live in KY. I am not familiar with the laws for salmon. Great vide! Want to come up with my RV and fish. Any more info is appreciated
Limits vary year to year but generally 2 to 6 fish. No slot size.
What about cedar plank kokanee?
Yup tasty
