    Pink Salmon run in large numbers in Puget Sound rivers during odd years and often show up in large numbers. These aggressive salmon can be easily targeted in the salt, estuaries, and rivers using a variety of tactics. In this video we target upriver fish on the classic bobber and jig rig. Along the way we stumble into a gorgeous summer Steelhead.
    Tackle featured in this video:
    - 1/4 oz pink marabou jig amzn.to/3k4D6Yv
    - 3/8 oz sliding float amzn.to/3nlUQ3M
    - 3/8 oz inline weight amzn.to/3z4UYaa

    Love ur videos, thanks for sharing. Can you explain how and why u put a corkie on top of the float please and thanks

    • @spiltmilt
      @spiltmilt  3 года назад +2

      I put the corkie on top because it lets me know that bobber is functioning properly and is fully seated against the bobber stop. If the leader wraps around the bobber during the cast the corky will lay on the water beside the bobber indicating an issue.

    I guess my secret tactic on pinks is out... ...using clear water tactics for steelhead, on humpies. I use lighter jighead's, though.

    Caught 7 a couple weeks ago, fulfilled a lifelong dream of catching a salmon from a river (originally from Texas). Appreciate the gear links in the description! Do you have your weight fixed a few feet from the jig and the weight is free floating up to your stopper?

    • @spiltmilt
      @spiltmilt  3 года назад

      I use a fixed inline weight. Congrats on your first salmon!

    I’m curious why pink is so attractive to salmon. Does it resemble a food item for them?

    • @spiltmilt
      @spiltmilt  3 года назад +2

      Salmon have fairly poor vision. Its estimated their vision resolution is about 10x less than ours. However, they do see a broader color spectrum than we do with peaks in the blue and red range. I assume this is why red or pink lures are so effective for salmon because a pink lure in blue water must stand out extremely well.

    • @thomassmestead2801
      @thomassmestead2801 2 года назад +1

      Don't know exactly, but it may be that pink shows up in the water column, a lot better than other colors. Another explanation may be that the fish strike this color offering, out of aggression, because it vaguely resembles salmon eggs.
      Even Coho strike pink jigs.

    Do you think it's better to bobber fish for them rather than jig when they start turning color? I was out this weekend and had a real hard time getting them to hit my jigs even though they were everywhere.

    • @spiltmilt
      @spiltmilt  3 года назад +1

      I do think it is more effective and results in almost zero foul hooked fish.
