      If I was born before I would have created Facebook or something else
      We achieve true success by doing things that others at our present time are not thinking
      Never feel you are late
      Every era has it's own emerging technology
      Just keep thinking how can I use it for solving problems of humanity

    Few definitions form my side :
    1. “Ability to solve problems of a particular kind rather than a particular problem”.
    2. Ability to practice , adapt, and acquire new skill.
    3. Ability to use the gained knowledge to rationale about the new situations and old ones.
    4. Ability to improve with practice.

    Currently at 36:36. Things which stood out till now:
    1. No mention of 'creativity' as a criteria for intelligence. Neural-networks these days are hinting at the possibility of silicon based 'brains' undermining repetitive-cognitive labor. Creativity seems to be the most safe domain in this regard, far away from any machine learning technique developed till date.
    2. No strong views on whether humans are machines. I mean really? At least 1 student should have had the sense to suggest anything on this. It's such a ripe topic for debate! If one considers human decision making as essentially choosing from a random pool of possibilities, with an internal selection mechanism based on the pleasantness of previous experience + familiarity, one can competently make the argument that we are literally stochastic machines following quantitative fitness functions!
    3. The teacher was mentioning existentialism, free-will, big name philosophers and the students appeared to be blank. I mean philosophy should be a human right at this point. I'm not saying listen and believe in these 'big name western philosophers' but goddamn, at least some active participation would be nice, especially on the topic of free will, ESPECIALLY from students taking a class on FREAKING AI.

      I felt so bad for the Professor! He set up so many great opportunities for interesting discussion, but no one took it.
      And this is not to place blame on the students. This is a result of how our education system is designed to just produce workers who can follow instructions.

    No one said about 'awareness' which is missing in machines.

    • @govind8574
      @govind8574 6 лет назад +4

      I have a counter to your opinion,
      We talk of the word 'awareness' in the universal set available ( I things focused more in the universal set on the area the things relevant at that time)
      By awareness we mean we come to know something happening around us, machines to come to know about the things happening with them,( also near by the exact topic for e.g.- Amazon chatbot - Alexa is aware of facts that are asked/interacted with her, simultaneously the machine also tries to gather knowledge may be relevant to her for future )
      Thus by my argument I conclude Both machines and human tries to gather awareness and try to become aware,
      I am not telling that all machines have that property of awareness, but the concept of awareness still holds for machines like any other concept of emotion, computation or intelligance.

    To be self aware of our thoughts and medium (body)
    Like if a thing is self aware of his body he will be able to tell that it is him in the mirror
    Self aware of thoughts means we know that we are thinking. Don't know how but we have already knew this fact that we are thinking and there isn't some answer poping directly.
    Intelligent beings are kind of philosophers who think of things and concept that can't be seen or feeled like gravity, origin of themselves.
    For intelligent beings just living isn't all, they seek pleasure, social respect, capable of gaining happiness from sarcasm (jokes)

    How does this definition of machine suffice?
    Machine - Product of additive technology to perform tasks using motion in service of man.
    Therefore from this definition:
    Human - not a machine
    Sword - not a machine
    Windmill - machine
    Waterwheel - machine
    Computer - not a machine
    Car - machine
    Apple - not a machine
    This definition probably is the closest to what people think of as machines, ruling out all biological life in the process. Since with biological life while we can manipulate and understand it we cannot create it from scratch. The idea of additive technology is adding one thing to another to create something more complex, however, a sword isn't a machine even though it is a tool, because it lacks any moving parts and is therefore solely reliant on humans to be used. A computer does not have moving parts, at least now with solid state drives, therefore falls outside of this definition of a machine, though in modern day we can say that almost all machines have computers, the reverse is not true.
    Hmm so on that basis a computer would be something like...
    Computer - Product of additive technology to perform computation via the flow of subatomic particles in the service of man.
    Slight alteration to the Machine definition but it allows us to clearly distinguish between a human, computer, and machine. This difference is likely to be more important rather than less as time progresses, and the average person grows confused with the blurring of lines. The only time that this breaks down at all is when it comes to the human mind emulation problem. But that can be resolved a number of ways when the time comes.

      Computer - not a machine
      NEGATIVE!
      additive - characterized by, relating to, or produced by addition.
      In conjunction to this Alan Turing referred to his Turing device AS A MACHINE! Anything that calculates and is operated by a user is a machine, please revise your statement.

    • @W0lfbaneShikaisc00l
      @W0lfbaneShikaisc00l 5 лет назад

      Your definition is at best conjecture: but it is not what computer scientists would define as not a machine:
      A computer computes data - it is in it's own name if you are however referring to a Computer as a job role then yes: it is not a machine, but in general, a device that uses components to make calculations whether it is algorithmic or mechanical switches that act like a calculator are one in the same. If it has a switch it's a machine.
      Several Computer Scientists will back up that attaching emotions to a machine does not make it "not a machine" lol.

      It has lot to do with the present day society. Today's students find classroom teaching obsolete as they can learn a lot through internet. They can just google their petty subject doubts without worrying about the embarrassment they would have faced instead if they had asked the same in the class. Had there been no internet, students would have surely interacted well with the lecturer as he/she would have been the only source for clarifying their doubts.

    • @W0lfbaneShikaisc00l
      @W0lfbaneShikaisc00l 5 лет назад

      The problem is half to do with society and half to do with it involving philosophy: it's too open ended. Students would rather it be proven in fact rather that speculation: if it's just opinion based then they know their answer doesn't matter.
      Think about it - why do you think so few students pick philosophy as their major despite it being impossible to seek a career in? Most of what you think Philosophy is is just conjecture: it serves no true purpose other than understanding how a person may conclude a narrative, whether it is right or wrong is meaningless!

    As much as I appreciate the nuances of thinking ai is exactly the same as the human mind it is not. A Human has to worry about their bills, their temperature, their energy, outside factor can influence a decision. An Ai is fed an algorithm and based on patterns it picks the most ideal solution based on what it was taught to answer - several hundred tests later it can make more accurate measurements based on HUMAN validation. To say they are similar is foolish, there are clear differences I don't need a degree in Philosophy to tell you the two minds are nothing alike. Human thought is more natural, more flexible and KNOWS the environment - an ai has to be taught so to think the same and even that isn't thought: it's just mathematics.

    • @W0lfbaneShikaisc00l
      @W0lfbaneShikaisc00l 5 лет назад

      Until I see a robot demonstrate feeling, demonstrate wants and demonstrate a drive to succeed beyond what the numbers tell them to me, they are still not independent beings and therefore I can't claim they are exactly like us - you may try and say chatbots demonstrate this: but again, these are just pre-programmed responses that are stored, mathematics: not thought.
