  • After Extreme frustration I finally managed to upload this clip: the end game between Lelouch and Schneizel.
    When I first saw this scene I was surprised because I didn't expect Lelouch to beat Schneizel with the same move he used against Mao. I guess that goes to show how over confident Schneizel was.
    Code Geass is owned by Sunrise.

      Indeed, some analysis of it and his previous use of this trick point out at about the mid point of the conversation he shifts topics, derailing the thread of discussion and resetting it. Because while he can predict the responses it's only up to a certain point, so he controls the topic and keeps his responses vague enough but in line with his target so as to hold their attention. In both cases his target having one key quality that lets this trick work....ego, both Schneizel and Mao had the ego and were driven to argue to prove themselves right which was the bait to the trap of getting them to argue with a recording.

    Am I the only one to consider that in these situations (Mao and Schneizel) that Lelouch's recordings only play when the other speaker has finished with their reply.
    Cause I've seen comments about Lelouch timing the responses and THAT is pretty ridiculous, but Lelouch programming his recording to only play after Mao/Schneizel have responded makes perfect sense to me.

    • @chaztikov
      @chaztikov 8 лет назад +93

      +Damien Loxely I think his conversation with Scheizel was intentionally vague. Its sole purpose was to present general points building up to a statement that he knew would seem contradictory to Schneizel. Regarding his timing, you have to consider Lelouch's prior experience with Schneizel. He was accustomed to the speed of Schneizel's moves, as well as defeat at the hands of his older sibling. To apply this to the present conversation, you only need to assume that the two have also had philosophical discussions in the past with the purpose of justifying their positions. Hence, Lelouch's experience--a deep understanding of Schneizel's stagnant philosophy that has been reinforced by being a member of the Royal Family for his entire life--coupled with Schneizel's willingness to call a draw, even at the cost of his own life, together assure Lelouch's feint will succeed. The former permits Lelouch to have foreknowledge of the course of the conversation, and the latter ensures Schneizel's false conviction that the game is over.

    • @damienloxely4140
      @damienloxely4140 8 лет назад +26

      I understand that it was deliberately vague (in order to give Lelouch time to get to him). But he could not determine the exact length of Schneizel (and Mao's) responses. Hence he programmed his recordings to only play after the former had finished talking.

    • @nevanmasterson46
      @nevanmasterson46 5 лет назад +51

      If you look at the recording made for Mao, he does cut mao off once and he is also left not replying for a good 5 seconds or so. I think the conversation with Lelouch and Schneizel is more perfectly timed either because lelouch has prior experience, or because he programmed it do so as aforementioned.

      So in other words, they were both willing to die but for very different reasons.

    • @eleosparakhaous
      @eleosparakhaous 10 лет назад +30

      tiakpark Schneizel does everything he does for the sake of his pride, so that he might be worth more than anyone else; he would rather die than lose (although, of course, he would let everyone else die in his stead if he had nothing to lose from it; he would even abandon Nunnally). He values himself most, and seeks to solve the world's problems the way they're contained now: through the fear of the law (much like Light from Death Note, which is made all the more evident by the fact that people began to commit crimes against each other again when they no longer had any punishment to fear). He would choose to give people what they want without honestly giving a damn about their well-being, or whether or not the people he would govern even care about each other. Lelouch, on the other hand, wants a world in which people would choose be kind to each other *because they desire what's best for them.* And, in order to accomplish that, he has to be the villain.

    Some may complain that this was just Lelouch repeating the same trick he played on Mao, but I don't mind. Like Lelouch said back then, Mao's thoughts were simple. It was easy to predict and script convincing prerecorded responses to him. Schneizel was not only much smarter than Mao, but the one opponent our brilliant Lelouch could never beat at chess. Successfully pulling off this trick against HIM is an impressive achievement.

    The betrayal irks me in just so many ways, because there are dozens of things they do wrong and we never see anything done about it. If anything, Xingke's later attitude suggests an "oh, so that's how it is, then we're cool" reaction.I would have at least expected Xingke, who is not as attached to Japan as they are, to blow a damn gasket for their completely inappropriate decision to make a deal with the enemy without consulting him or the Supreme Council Chairwoman first.

    Thats the thing, Light IS emotional and moronic, and he had a god complex. You can't say 'all he had to do was not be' because thats who he is, and who he was designed to be. Thats why he can never compare to Lelouch, if they were to go at it on fair ground (both aware of eachothers powers existence) Light would not stand a chance.

    the things that lead to frequent editors' notes in animes and mangas. That is, of course, bonus to those who speak Japanese but it can and does change the experience of the series. Then there are tropes. common plot or character or story elements, not necessarily cliches but elements that are common, which differ greatly between Japan and US, or the west. One of the big reasons why that is relevant is because of voice of acting for different characters, which is typically one of the biggest

    Lemme expound on that some.
    Emotions are universal. And emotions have very specific affects on language in how we perceive. Those are also universal. Even someone is speaking total gibberish, you could tell if they're doing it angrily or not. So when you can't completely understand a language you hear, the human brain must zone in on the one, only thing that it CAN understand. Emotion.
    So Japanese just seems more emotional because the emotion is the only thing you could register.

    @CrashB111 but one thing people don't realise: Schneizel wasn't Evil! He was trying to achieve peace just like Lelouch, they both went about it in evil horrific ways, but once lelouch died schneizel would have gone back to being prime minister. Schneizel lacked ambition, his goals are always changing depending on what sounds best. He would never go back to the damocles. If lelouch didn't know about his lack of ambition, then his video tape gambit wouldn't have worked
