    Ian exposed CC weaknesses. Obvious were the flood waters but the internal infrastructure issues and the long term costs of the damaged canal sea walls will be astronomically expensive to repair and maintain.
    Floridas insurance issues, which could fill another video, are costing homeowners thousands of dollars annually. Sadly self inflicted by the corrupt legislators.
    Unfortunately the further you get from the water the more you have to deal with the traffic and parking which has progressively gotten worse.
    Crazy drivers, that's what happens when there is no enforcement. Anything goes on Florida roads.
    I'm curious to see what the RE market will look like in 5 to 10 years. A lot of people are attempting to cut their losses and sell immediately. Not many takers because prices are still too high.
    Thanks for your video. Good starting point, but people need to do their research. Rent for a year before committing to Florida. It's a great place to winter but way too many cons in my opinion for full time residency. Long time snowbird but realized the first year not gonna move here permanently.

    Hi Craig, I thought I read that Florida just passed an new law that requires flood insurance whether you are in a flood zone or not if you are getting insurance from the state run Citizens insurance. Since home insurance is getting to be burden in Florida this noew law will add a lot of cost to a home now

    • @livinginfortmyersflorida
      @livinginfortmyersflorida  Год назад +3

      That is definitely not accurate. There is no possible way the entire state would be affected like that. There are some decent elevations in the state that would never require flood insurance.

    • @carlr9554
      @carlr9554 Год назад

      @@livinginfortmyersflorida Did the legislation not pass yet? Many links to news reports on homes with citizens insurance would be required to have flood insurance by 2027

    • @JohnJohn-wr1jo
      @JohnJohn-wr1jo Год назад +1

      Living, Need to do some research. It's a done deal. What people need to realize is this is the Florida legislatures attempt at a quick fix to their insurance debacle. Which was self inflicted. It's a case of strong arming It's citizens into sharing the cost of flooding for the 10% who may need it in their lifetime.

    • @lhyork1608

    • @carlr9554
      @carlr9554 Год назад

      @@lhyork1608 you need to research this a little more, based on the homes value will determine when you are required flood insurance, it is phased in for 2024 thru 2027,

    Love your videos as someone who used to live on Pine Island and my husband grew up there for part of his life. We are moving back from good old NY 😉 this summer and I’m trying hard to find middle school suggestions (most likely private). Obviously I will have to drive. I know realtors aren’t supposed to talk schools (as a new realtor myself). Can anyone give any suggestions on schools? Please!. We toured one a few months ago. My daughter went to Pine Island elementary in kindergarten before we moved to Ny. I’ve been homeschooling since 2019. One child will be in 2nd grade and the other 7th. Will be hopefully looking at a couple schools in June on our trip back. Art schools or Christian schools would be great. Or just a great school.

      Most middle schools rate very similar to one another. Go to leeschools.net to get more info.

    • @JohnJohn-wr1jo
      @JohnJohn-wr1jo Год назад

      Florida public schools historically were rated well below the US public school average pre pandemic. Like most states there were exceptions. I'm not optimistic that it's improved any but you will have a difficult time obtaining accurate data for anything in Florida currently. Crime rates are a good example. The historically high crime counties data has been conveniently "not available" the last few years so our governors office reported the lowest crime rate in over 50 years (2021) about a year ago. More than half the counties fell into that category. Many people will tell you they've never seen crime as bad as its been the last 5 years. Especially violent crime. I wouldn't raise my kids in Florida even if they were in private school.

    • @livinginfortmyersflorida
      @livinginfortmyersflorida  Год назад

      Latest report showed that Florida school were above the National average because the home schooling during the pandemic was much shorter here and the lasting affects are not the same as in other very restrictive states.

    I just spent two weeks in Cape Coral. Stayed at the Westin at TARPON POINT. 1,600 sq ft for 900,000 is ridiculous. If you drink and like boating Cape Coral is for you. Otherwise Im only interested in being a snow bird.

    COL increased $1,125/month the past 4 yrs. NO ONE in FL actually has home insurance. You're paying for the thought you have insurance, but you really don't. My car insurance in IL was $797/yr in Cape Coral it's $2,835/yr. Cape Coral electric bill is $400+/month. FL is a miserable place to live.
