Fantastic video, the way you customize everyting based on a single board just shows how incredibly versatile this whole space is. And that black/grey combo looks incredible, I'm definitely aiming more and more towards a Sonnet (vs the Eighty) as one of my next boards, whish it was in stock though 😭
Thank you! To be honest, 75% is one of my least favorite layouts, but as I got to spend time with the Sonnet, it really won me over. Mode definitely made something special with this one.

This is the best sound comparison between the three major types of switches I’ve seen and listened to on RUclips. What the heck. I could never tell the difference even after watching so many videos until this one.
Glad it was helpful! Also note that switches are only one factor, of several, that affect the sound profile.
I really enjoyed this, you covered the process and this board at a level of detail that is much higher than most. The back to back sound tests are awesome and making me more excited to get my Sonnet in October!

I ended up selling my Soya u80 and canceling my m65-c. I discovered more of my preferences and didn't have a need for them anymore. However, I might still buy their PE for form my m65-b, when they start shipping.

Very nice, useful introduction and guide into mechanical keyboards. You practically demonstrated just how much impact the choice of plate and switches have on sound and the widely different results one can obtain, all in one video, very well done.
Thank you Ivo. I think that was one big thing I didn't quite understand when I first started out. But after watching many demo videos and experimenting and researching myself, I have a better handle on the variables that can impact sound. Just wanted to share with others.

Did the Internal Weights affect the sound profile of the board considerably or is it more of an aesthetic?

Hey Bao is in the video! Been trying to figure out a new keyboard. This was really educational. But I'm still crippled by choice. But still this was really good place to start. Probably the best video I have found so far. Thanks Matthew.
The best part is if you make the wrong choice, you can always swap out some parts to try something new, or make a whole new board altogether.
Great video, as always. You did a great job at breaking down the basics for beginners and the keyboard turned out great. What keyboard layout/size is your favorite so far? And have you ventured into the 40's world yet? Would love to hear how you find them if you do. I have a soft spot for a well designed compact keyboard. I have gone smaller than a 65%, but I have a 60% on the way! 40% looks intimidating to me. (At least for now)
As someone who is new to the hobby but also bought a hot swappable keyboard that seems to need quite a bit of modding and changes to get to the sound profile I’m looking for this succinctly answered a lot of my foundational questions! I see so much content that assumes what you know all these items mean (mounts, plate materials, switches, keycap material) and what that does to the sound/feel of a keyboard - this is a video I’d recommend to all before venturing out into the jargon. Thanks!
