    Remember, linux doesn't allow anti-cheat software to act like a rootkit and spy on your system processes. That's why devs won't enable it. They want to put a virus on your PC/Deck.

      Here's the thing. EAC and Battleye *BOTH* have working bridges allowing them to function in userland on Linux.
      Games like Apex Legends that use EAC already work on Deck. Destiny 2 could too if not for their insane stubbornness.

    • @flamingscar5263

      no, Linux 10000% does allow it
      the reason devs don't enable support is complicated
      to us it seems as simple as "just allow the game to work" but its much more complicated from a development perspective
      the minute you allow your game to work on deck your now supporting a whole new platform, a platform that will run into its own issues
      sure you COULD rely on the linux community to fix those issues, but that gives bad PR, worse PR then not supporting at all
      plus any ties to other companies, in the case of destiny 2, Sony since they own bungie, can make things much more complicated
      the steam deck is a new console, and yes its a console, so companies like Sony and Microsoft absolutely DONT want to support (halo infinite doesn't run either)
      the only reason destiny 2 is still on xbox and pc is because it was there already, I promise you if Sony bought bungie before destiny 2 came to PC, it never would have came to PC

      @@flamingscar5263 Sony have given complete independence to Bungie though - they aren't even part of PlayStation Studios. Also, all the Sony PC ports are Deck Verified with even Shuhei Yoshida posting pictures of himself playing God of War on it.

      is it stubbornness though or is there a reason they want that access and know that linux isn't going to just let them roam free however they want so they dont want to concede to the operating system, just sayin.

    Honestly, hot take, but this might be a blessing in disguise, people shouldn't be playing games where you _rent_ DLC that is the price of a full AAA game, there's so many other games out there to play that aren't destiny and do work on linux. Glad I dropped Destiny 2 last year. There was only so many times bungie can blueball me from and rob me of a good experience before I had to leave, I just see this as just the latest thing in a long line of (now predictable) frustrations with destiny as a franchise as someone who probably has a collective thousand hours total between Destiny 1 and 2 + DLCs.

    it will be very hard to cheaters to make their tools work in Linux, and there are many reasons for that ...
    also, its easier to inject and change code in runtime in windows because there are OS level APIs to do that ...

    Easy anti cheat is from epic, they made it compatible with Linux, but they don't support is for Fortnite as they have doubt they can battle cheaters with custom kernels 🤦‍♂️

    I usually play single player games so this doesn't affect me much but I see the Steam Deck as it's own platform, yes it's a PC but it's kinda it's own thing, if some developers don't want to support it, fuck them and don't support them, after all, it's not like there's a shortage of games to play on the Deck.
    In the end, it doesn't matter, if the Deck sells well which it looks like it will, you can bet many of those dev teams will change their tune because at the end of the day, money talks and the last thing they want to do is lose out on sales, especially if enough console gamers buy into the Steam Deck because they will very likely stick to SteamOS.
    So yeah, don't worry about it, there's more than enough games to play on it and not enough time to play them to worry about some stubborn or corrupt companies.

    • @ized88
      @ized88 2 года назад

      Normally if it would involve some afford to make it compatible i would agree with you.
      But battle eye devs together with valve made it compatible with every existing title at the moment, but made it opt in. So they don't have to change code or anything, it would be work for 1 person for maybe 30 minutes and the game would run on Linux / Steam-Deck.
      Kinda pisses me off, to but hey if the game has a single player part i want to play, I just pirate the game than 🤷🏻‍♂️
      i don't support them as they don't want to support us 😁

    the problem is that Linux distros BY DESIGN allow cheating to be easier
    thats the downside of full customizability, if someone had the know how they could make a custom linux kernel with the cheats built into them, difficult? yes, impossible? far from it
    and while linux does in fact allow for an app to have root access, no anti cheat can prepare for a custom kernel
    the only reason we dont see cheats on linux that often is its small userbase, with the steam deck that will change
    I foresee the steam deck bringing in a new wave of cheaters, showing that BY DESIGN linux in its current state will never be usable for competitive titles
    but a custom linux distro that strips many of the freedoms (like android) could easily be better then windows for competitive games

    let me explain the issue.
    the issue, is not that they think all linux users are hackers.
    the issue is not that millions of end users will learn how to hack the anti cheat solution for linux.
    first off, in the old days, you didnt need to know much about computers to cheat in an game, it was so easy that almost anyone could do, things got a lot harder over time but the demand was still there, then guess what happened? it became an market! this market move HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS of dollars each year.
    the issue is not individuals finding an way to hack so they can cheat, if that was the case we would see like 1 cheater in each 1 million of players, no big deal.
    the issue is that those who know how to hack sell their solutions for those who dont.
    the issue is not that millions of people use linux, the issue is that, if its easier to cheat on linux, we will have things like "cheatOS" an operating system with all kernel modifications that you need to run your cheat programs, and you can bet that a lot of people will use it.
    its not something easy to fix.
    Anti cheat is like DRM, its designed to limit what you can do with your machine and/or spy on you, if you know anything about linux, you know that by design that is exactly the opposite of everything linux represent and stands for, linux is designed to give the user freedom to do anything, and freedom in that context means CHEATING.
    anti cheat is an tool to restrict this freedom, and that is much harder to do on an open system like linux.
    even if they made an kernel with anti cheat tech embed, they would have to open source it since the kernel is gpl, even if they figure out an way arround it, as epic claim they did, people can just fork/use another kernel, or reverse enginering it, its a small ammount of proprietary code arrount tons of open source code, unlike windows where its closed source inside closed source code, thusfar its much easier to hack.
    that is not a big deal for games that arent too popular, there isnt much risk since the demand is low anyway, but on an popular game like destiny, and fortinite? i can understand why the companies wont want to risk.

    • @kelvinhbo
      @kelvinhbo 2 года назад +2

      Overwatch and CSGO are highly popular games that have worked in Linux for years, there are no unique cheats developed for that platform. You are just repeating the same made up lies and nonsense Bungie and Epic are telling you. It is not easier cheat or develop cheats on Linux. Please stop spreading these lies.

    • @flamingscar5263
      @flamingscar5263 2 года назад +3

      @@kelvinhbo see, your seeing that there is no cheats on linux and contributing it to teh fact that cheats must be harder to make on linux
      That's dead wrong, cheats are much easier to make on linux
      But the reason you don't see cheats on linux is because linux has a very small user base
      So the amount of linux gamers who want to cheat and are unwilling to switch to windows to do so is EXTREMELY small
      There cheat makers make money on their cheats, it's a business, so supporting linux is not worth it, eventho it's easier to make cheats on linux, the small amount of linux cheaters means you have an extremely small return on investment, leading to no cheat makers supporting linux
      The steam deck will change this, bring many, many users to linux, alongside those users are cheaters
      Mind you I could be DEAD WRONG, but it's way to early to say so
      Bungie is playing the long game, if they see that a year from now the steam deck didn't lead to more cheaters (as me and most devs I've talk to speculate) then they will support the deck
      But having a competitive game on steam deck rn is risky, it's a new platform that cheating MAY end up easier on
      Or their anti cheat won't have the necessary permissions to stop cheaters
      To many variables leaed to it being to risky rn

    • @kelvinhbo
      @kelvinhbo 2 года назад +1

      @@flamingscar5263 You are dead wrong my friend. And until you can show the data that shows that cheating can be a unique problem on Linux, then you are just talking out of your behind. The companies that make this anticheats themselves has had Linux versions for years, they themselves say Linux is fine. It’s the developers that CHOOSE not allow it in their games. These developers don’t know crap about security and are assuming that there would be a problems on Linux just because it’s a feeling they have. Tim Sweeney has been notoriously anti Linux forever for no good reason.
      Before Proton existed, the excuse these developers gave was that they didn’t have the resources to support Linux. Then the Linux community made DXVK, they made almost every game work on Linux without the developers having to do anything. DXVK was so good that Valve picked it up and turned it into Proton. But it took thousands of hours of programming and troubleshooting from the Linux community to get to this point.
      Now the last road block for all Windows games to work on Linux is the anticheat. But now some developers like Bungie that don’t know what the hell they’re talking about have shifted to saying it is easier to bypass anitcheat on Linux. It is NOT! It is the same as on Windows. Once you understand the blood and sweat that took to develop Proton, it’s infuriating to see people like you agreeing and defending this crap, when it’s all lies,
