- Part 22! 1968 VW Custom Window Openings Are SYMMETRICAL🤗📐✅ Full Custom Ian Shows You How 🤓
You asked, Professor Ian Roussel answered. Just how is he going to get the passenger side of this radical custom to match his original work? Ian shows just how to get it done. The answer....templates 😀
The backstory...
Ian has decided to lower this VW Beetle 6 inches to get it to the ground and start radically modifying this beat up 1968 VW Beetle, but like most things that were once going to find the fate of the crusher, he once again proves you can do some amazing things in your garage with some imagination, fearlessness and a willingness to make mistakes as you create. 🥴
His fascination stems from the seemingly limitless customization opportunities for this vehicle. Join Ian on a wild ride through his mind 👽 as he envisions then fabricates his most radical ideas to date. 😎
The origin of this custom build was inspired by @JohnnyJalopyArt Please subscribe to his channel if you haven't already!

ruclips.net/video/XMKHbdC80G0/видео.html
Thanks for all the hard work, Jamie & Ian!👽
I dig the videos. If I lived closer I come by and help and learn how to weld. Keep them videos flowing.
You get frustrated in your workshop? That's love right there. Thanks for keeping it real guys.
I am 76 years old and when I grow up I want to be as talented as Ian!
I'm with you and I'm 77.
G'day from West Australia😉
59in a few days been at this trade 43yrs, thus far.
Ian definately helps me stay motivated.🙂👍👍
I just hit 70 I'm with the both of you.
@@steveveness3829 59? I have socks older than you.
@@Bob-bb3ur I bet you have, coz they used to be made to last.
Not like junk sold in todays world😉🙂👍👍
Using the pliers to release the vise grips , I'm 65 getting hard on the hands when your getting older , COOL TIP 👍JAIME , IAN GREAT JOB STAY COOL
I swear, my BP goes down just focusing on and listening to your creative babble as you build...no drama, just calm progression. You are the Zen master.
One thing that I appreciate about your videos is the grinding noise dropping down to a dull sound right away. 😊
Yes she puts in the time editing and it makes such a difference.
I enjoy long form Ian with Jamie’s commentary even more than the TV show…
So do I.
Me too. Great to see the design process evolve into reality. Ian excels at that. Jamie has evolved as well and is an excellent producer. Jamie, has this become your full-time endeavor?
Nutn like chillin like a villain listening to Audioslave Getaway Car and watching Ian work his magic! Peace Brother and Sister ❤
That "Bugster" is starting to take shape of late 40/50s roadster. Nice work Ian and great filming, Jamie 😊
Thanks 👍
Some people will never get it you have built so many custom cars you are just so good at doing what you do in the custom car world
Bugs Bunny at night and a Bug the next day! 😊 ¡perfecto!
I did the same. I watched Bugs and the Crusher last night. I grew up watching Bugs, and I still love him.
I cut and welded a new door
skin on my 58 Chef p.u. and was pretty proud of myself, but you're awesome. I'm 73 and I would have done bodywork if I had to do it all again. Thanks for sharing your skill !!!
Skill. Cunning. Daring. Clean Living.
3 out of 4 ain't bad...
A Master Class in good fortune.
Thanks for the video, Jamie. Thank you both for sharing your talents!!
Glad you enjoyed it
This is what years of hands on experience looks like. It is great to watch real fabrication turn into a work of art. I had a few years of car and truck customizing here in Oklahoma, but Ian is way ahead of my stuff. Love to watch the magic hands at work.
Right on
Great filmage and direction, about how Ian uses the red ball while he welds...
Looking forward to seeing just exactly how it all ties together, structurally.....😎🤙👽🛸🛸
When Ian mentioned Devine intervention I thought about that when you found each other. You two work together so perfectly. It's odd to see a married couple that enjoys not only being together as much as you two are but she Jamie truly loves seeing your work and showing us Ian's great talent. You two are like a perfect sandwich of peanut butter and jelly. Jelly
Thank you! We appreciate that! It was divine intervention that brought us together 😎
Can't tell you how many times I've gone to the trash Ben and found exactly what I needed when I was trying to avoid cutting a piece out of a full plank.

👀👍👋Never thought I would private lessons from Ian! Thanks for sharing your knowledge and creations !
More to come!
Moving right along ! I can't wait till the fenders go on its all coming together! As usual it's gonna a be AWESOME !thank you for recording these miracles, right before our eyes magic man and super girl! Keep it up guys love ya!
You bet!
It is good to see a true craftsman at work. we never had a mig welder in my day we used oxy/acetylene torch and a hammer and dolly to do all the shaping.
The progress of this project is truly impressive! A nice video to spend a Sunday evening pleasantly!
Glad you enjoyed it!
You could name it creepy crawler or down and out..that rusty bug came in handy for needed parts..that build will rock the universe...you guys need a fan club...😃😃😃😃😃😃😃😃😃
I was having some withdraws when you guys were in SEMA, finally get to watch you get back on it. Thank you both for providing us with all of this content!
Our pleasure!
I think when you see a bunch of cuts on the first side, tough for the untrained to see how it's going to be replicated. Nicely done !!!
Thanks for sharing your knowledge of metal work including welding. I learn from every episode. Keep them coming Jamie!
You bet!
I can’t wait for you to start back on Little Jewel since you have the new chassis and it’s lowered now!!!!!!!!!
I Only came across your channel a few days ago. I enjoy watching this build. it's great to see how you're talking us through and working out the fabricating and how to do certain welds . when I first seen the roof line on this bug I thought you were going to use a vw variant fastback roof and engine cover as I started watching on your video15, I'm going be catching up from the start keep up the build can't wait to see the end result , all the best from Wales, UK
Newport boy here enjoying the build with you
Awesome, thank you! Welcome to our community!
great job Ian. I didn't worry how you were going to do the other side. I knew you would do it perfectly.
Your both doing great. Keep doing what you're doing the numbers will go up. 100k in no time
Another great job like how you used metal inside the bed and not wood
Making full size car puzzles! Love the way you build on the fly!
Love seeing the progress of your builds but the episodes are not long enough. Could watch you for hours Ian and Jamie being lucky enough to have a front row seat. As always, great job guys. 👍🏼🇦🇺
More to come!
Three video's within a week. I feel like I won the lottery!
Keep up the good work, Ian and Mrs. Roussel!
Fascinating about the heat frustrations.
Just took a short pause to search for "Bunny Hugged". The complete cartoon of Bugs vs. the Crusher. Pretty funny.
Hi Ian and Jamie hope you’re doing well loved your SEMA walk through wish I was there too meet you guys as I keep saying your the Man Ian you could be a Surgeon you already have your Beautiful Nurse 😉your work is nothing but Awesome/Amazing and all the Above still got a long road to finish the Bug and I’m staying on it with you Love ❤️ It take care both Love 💕 You Guys James from Australia 🇦🇺👍🏻💕😘😎
Thank you!
Hi Ian. First time commenting, but a long time viewer. I'm liking this very much, it's fun to see a master working his craft. It's amazing to see just how long it really takes to do these things. I have a neighbor that is also a master craftsman and the automotive world. Anyway keep up a good work thank you so much for showing us what you do and how you do it.
Many thanks
Ian knows what he is doing the man can cut up a car in a lot of pieces and weld it back together in a master piece
Never had a doubt in my mind that you could do it symmetrically you are an amazing talent. Love you both. Keep them coming. Not seeing the plate hanging on the wall??
Ian,I'm 66 and I still love Bugs Bunny and Road Runner. I'm doing a 73 bug resto. and a 66 cal look. YOU'RE a big inspiration to me to push myself on my work
Wonderd how you was guna do the window and keep it right good job great video
Fun! Can't wait to see what's next. I'll be watching. Bless you both!
Hay just a huge fan. I have a challenge for Ian he is the only person that I think could pull this off. Keep an open mind. Please. But I would love to see Ian build an inside out car like for instance everything inside out like even on like a VW. The roof inside out the front window inside out the back window. The finders the hood and deck lid everything inside out . The inside out car . Don't know how it can be done but if it can be done I would love to watch that happen and still run and drive. Now that's wild.
You have quite a imagination, i've seen upside down Cars and Backwards ones, but never inside out..
Ya it's just ridiculous. It would be art for sure
I had watch when every show started and I am amazed by you what ever you bring.
Dr Ian and Nurse Jamie just slicing and dicing on the Frankenbug...man it is gonna be sweet when we hear "IT'S ALIVE"
Really cool how this car keeps giving you what you need by going through what seemed to be scrap to some simple fab and done like the other front just gave it to you. I think the car God's are just happy with this chop.you can't add it up to the experience of it all that would be to easy lol . Great job. looking forward to seeing this ride at Sema.Take care
Thank you!
You do awesome work! ✌️🙂👍
Thank you! Cheers!
Another great episode. Amazing how it's coming together. I'm curious. Did you ever explain the origin of your arm lightning bolt tattoos or will they remain a mystery?
My former life as a Superhero.
Okay, I can see that.@@Ian_Roussel
Watching Ian and Bad Chad chop tops amazes me love the metal wizardry
@@FloJor yes he has over a quarter million followers
Bello's is a class act as well
@@gmc.joesousa4360 The views don't show that though.
@@FloJor Stealing that Mans Generator on video lost me, i don't know what he/they were thinking.
IVe done lots of car maintanance, and even make car go faster stuff, and Ive even done metal finishing on car, but Ive never done custom body work type stuff. I do enjoy watching it on youtube. between you, rat rods from africa, bad chad, I can watch this stuff all day.
No doubt in my mind you could and would do it. You are not only good at what you do, but it's good to be lucky sometimes.
Jamie, smooth technic working around what Ian is doing. Maybe he will let you use the torch to heat up something on this build.
Possibly!
A suggestion, try some loonytunes background music for ambiance on occasion( intro, outro) etc.
That is a fun idea! ~ Jamie
Thank you Ian for the welding tips and how you explain them. And thank you Jamie for capturing said tips. I am applying all this to a current project I have! Cheers!
Excellent work again Ian. Love to watch you fab.
Really enjoyed the video got a lot out of the teaching moments thanks!
It’s so interesting watching someone with your talents. You do the impossible with metal!!
Really enjoying watching you create this Ian.
Grew up with Bugs bunny 👍
Many thanks, We love our cartoons!
I like the way you eyeball your cuts. You use the eyecrometer
It’s amazing how Ian can accomplish so many daunting tasks without millions of dollars worth of fabrication equipment and in the end the cars always look right!
I love the way Ian constantly executes small tack welds and just moves on! If that was my welding I would be stuck to the weld needing to wiggle the torch then shooting out a long piece of welding wire and getting the pliers to break weld off the torch. After ALL that moving on to the next tack😂
@@Nlusky123 Lol, i'm sure you're not that bad.
Great job on the video and editing Jamie! You make Ian actually look like he knows what he is doing🤣🤣. Definitely will be a cool car to finish up and see what kinda interior ideas Ian has visioned for it.
I like the teaching aspect. I almost think the teaching aspect of the videos is different than the actual project work. It’s the same content, but one is design and fab , while the other is fab and how to. Just a thought. Love the videos.
"That was so neato!" To describe heating metal for lead work in this manner has cemented Jamie into my psyche as a genuine car freak!!
All the cartoons we watched where like that lol . Ian has more patient's than me I would be cussing and throwing things lol
I'm loving what you're doing here Ian ... would be great to make the fiberglass top detachable and have a kind of soft top Roadster fast back coupe underneath.... Don't worry just thinking allowed 😉👍 ... mind you you could have two or three cars for the price of one .... ?
Maybe down the line on another Bug you could do this kind of chops and make the back window long all the way back to the original curve of the back corner of the body line of the panel behind the original side window position. When you where fitting the front edge of this side back window I could picture it.😏
I need to get one of those rockabilly grinders 🤪
😂😂😂😂😂😂
Awesome job and great video thanks for sharing stay safe out there. Bugs Bunny was awesome remember the furry red monster
Can’t wait to see it completed
What you're doing makes the bug appear as if it's stretched. I like how Jamie is dubbing in a little music here and there.
You're making this look too easy! Haha Everytime I see the profile of this it looks rad.
Love the classic cartoons oh and the bug is looking good.
What can we say besides, MARVELOUS - JUST MARVELOUS!!! 🤟
Maybe it's due to the camera angles, but the radius of the left and right upper windshield corners appear different. I think this bug is going to be very cool.
I think it’s the angle of the camera
Hello Ian. You should probably build an mk1.
Mk1 owns all vw
I totally had to watch “the crusher” after Ian said that. My favorite was “All right Rabbit, where’s Rocky? He’s not in the stove”
Bugs Bunny inappropriate? Maybe that explains a few things, seeing as he was one of my favorite Saturday morning cartoons as a kid back in the sixties and seventies.
In fact I got a 4 or 5 DVD collection of Looney Tunes with Bugs, Yosemite Sam, Daffy, Elmer, Porky, Roadrunner and Coyote.
I like the window template idea to match the two windows!
westport wa.state. asked my sister where we got the finger snaps from in our family. she said my grandpas brother. he was a beatnik way back when. his commune was shut down. it seems some one was sliding into the park next to them and was growing green stuff. so the state. told them to move out. they never did start it back up.
Really enjoying watching the build progressing..thanks, steve and helene
The ole vdub is coming along nicely.
Now Jaime has perfect music in the background mix! What tunes are you playing?
Surf guitar ....I download from site called slipstream
@@fullcustomIan totally fits, not too much rockabilly love pounding guitars
Please radius the 90 degree corner on the doors of your VW to match the window corners . I love the look of the VW but when looing at the car my eyes are drawn to the 90 degree sharp corner of the doors. Maybe its just me. Thanks
Nice video,love the beetle build
Such a pleasure to watch, 100% better than the TV show. 👍🛸🇦🇺
Frost on the pumpkin this morning here in Missouri. VW is looking Sharp. Enjoyed the SEMA episode must have one of those Ace of shades t-shirts. Really enjoy the content. Peace Love. Ace out
Enjoyed another great video. 😎
19:26 Thanks for not cutting your thumb off in front of the camera.
Ian if ya pop a hole or two in the template finger size it is easy to hold 👽George The Glassman
I follow all your craisy construction. I love from France since your first émission.🤟kepp going. 🔝🏁
My welding skills are weak at best. Never sure what setting to use for which materials.
Next time insert your template in the fixed pillar and then mark on template. Then insert template in the non fixed section and mark the non fixed where the mark is on the insert and then cut. Also drill finger holes in the template. It’s amazing how when your in the back seat you can see everything.
😂😂
The Music is GREAT! also the content.
Thanks for the show guys 🍻 🇦🇺
Thanks for sharing 😀👍
Mark the template and transfer on to part to cut.
You talked about cutting out a curse word. Just bleep them out and then throw them in an outtake video for some laughs. 😂
U Both are Great Fun and Ian I love ur Creations ur a like me 👍👌😎😎
In the thumbnail it looked as though you were wearing a some style of military helmet. I thought cool being Veterans Day and all. I catch a glimpse in the vid and see / realize it’s your welding helmet. Schmuck am I. Just one of those moments.
Cannot wait to see it done....
I wonder if Ian has ever given ant thought to chopping one of the New Mini Coopers say from 2005 to 2007 it would be interesting to say the least what with the side window glass and the hatchback but hey something something I am sure a bunch of people would tune in for since it has never been down before to my knowledge. Just a thought and if it could be done Ian is the one to do it...
