James it’s facts bro, you can pretty much get through the calculus series without this. There are lots of other graphing utilities on the computer. Desmos is a good one
In high school we were encouraged to only use a scientific calculator and weren't allowed a graphical calculator during exams. I'm now in college and this is still the case. (EE student) Though if I really need it, I just use the desmos website for sine graphs and such, like the other commenter said.

that is because you are pressing the minus button for -2. THat happened to me too. You need to press the button under the 3 and then press to and then it should work.
Had the same issue. Quick google search fixed it: If you are trying to graph on your TI83/84 and you get the INVALID DIM error, then this usually means your PLOT is turned on. ... A good rule of thumb is, anytime you are using the STATPLOT, be sure to turn OFF your PLOT when you are finished. That way you will avoid the INVALID DIM Error in the future
If people are having trouble with the ERR:DIM MISMATCH, it can be fixed by clearing all other y = and deselecting all plots (they will be in a black box and you can deselect it by pressing enter on it).

Wow, I was struggling so much to figure out all the buttons on my new calculator and I didn't even want to touch it. This video legitimately helped me out so much, I can actually graph my equations now! Thank you so much. However, how would you find the intersection of two separate equations?
Excellent question! Start by graphing them both in the Y= screen. When they are both entered in, go to your graph screen. You should be able to see where the two cross, but if not adjust your window size Now press [2nd] [Trace] to bring up the calc menu for graphs. There you will find an option to calculate the intersection. For this you'll select a point to the left, and right of the intersection, as well as make a "guess" where they cross. The calculator will do the rest. :^D

Yes, the Ti-82 has a very similar graphing set up so you should have no issues. To double check this I fired up my Ti-82 and graphed the equations in the video with no issue. Keep up the good work! :^D

PSA to every one needing a calculator: Buy a used Ti-83. They come out with new versions all the time. You CAN pay over 100 dollars for the new, fancy one with a lit screen.... or you can pay 20-30 for an older one that does the exact same thing, minus backlighting. Good luck!
What should I do if the second point doesn’t graph? I have it up to the 4:00 min mark but when I hit graph, only the first point is on the graph. Is there something wrong in my settings? I also made sure that my equal sign was selected, yet it still doesn’t graph the second equation. When I go back to y= it doesn’t show the = being highlighted black anymore
ok so um my arrow down when adjusting frame size gives me an error message. Also when typing in the x carrot three how do I get out of the exponent. It puts the 2x as part of the exponent
hello, I just got a TI-84 Plus, and my problem is that I'm not able to plot two equations... the icon on the left of your Y, where you have the \Y1=, my \ it´s like the play button, a triangle on the side. And if I try to change it, I only get 3 options: the "play icon" the "play pause icon" or another one too weird to explain... Can anyone help? Thanks

I did exactly what the video said but the graph looks different on mine then it is on his. I double checked it and it’s the exact same equation so I’m not sure what’s going on. 😭
Sounds like your mode is set to "math print." This is an option that is common with the newer line of Ti-84 calculators. I like to use "classic." To switch between the two press [MODE]. One of the first few options will have either math print, or classic highlighted. Select one and the press [Enter]. Hopefully that helps out. :^D
Type: 2nd then + to access the memory. Then scroll to "reset". Arrow the top tab over to ALL and press enter. Make sure you have all programs and Apps on your computer through TI-Connect before resetting.
I gave handed down my niece my calculator after transferring to a 4 year year school where it was required for the Time Value of money in intermediate accounting, and business static class in my first 2 years and she never brought it back because she lost it on campus which is okay. I should make her pay for it but I'll get the better one with the backlight and color. Saw it on amazon for $150 for te earlier model but really, I'm looking for the new one but will find out the difference before I do because I know you can upload new updates and features plus programs using the app from the ti 84 I think plus?
Its true they have added some new things you can do! I really like the latest one that has a backlit screen in color. The only down side is I forget to recharge it from time to time. I never really have this problem with my older Ti-83, because I can just pop in some new batteries.

I'm confused. I have a TI-83 Plus and when I graph the second equation after setting my window range to 6 as you did, it actually shows up immediately without having to enlarge the window again. My equation looks the exact same as yours, but the graph looks completely different. EDIT: Wait a minute, I just cleared it from the second Y and put it in the first one and now it looks correct. WTF is happening? Now I just redid it the exact same way as the first time, with the first equation and then the second one exactly as you have it and now it appears correctly. I have no idea why it looked weird the first time. It was coming down from the upper left quadrant towards 1 on the y-axis and not moving up to the right from 20 on the x-axis. Not sure what happened, but I hope it doesn't happen again.

Double check to see that the min is less than the max on the window. Another thing to check is if you have used the negative sign or the minus sign. In my experience, both of these are common problems when setting the window size. :^D

To turn a graph on or off, the equal sign should be highlighted in the Y= menu 2) Are both graphs in the window? Its possible one of them is outside of the window and you might need to reset it to something a bit larger.
@@canberkyardmc7850 When you are in the Y= screen, 1) press the left arrow button [ < ] until the cursor is over the equal sign. 2) Then press [Enter] You can use these same steps to turn them off. Let me know if that works. :^D

That's not good. Maybe try and reset the calculators memory. You might have a few other things stored in there, getting in the way.

To make an x/y table, after graphing, press 2nd and then graph. There’s a little button that says table above graph.

Yes, the Ti-82 has a very similar graphing set up so you should have no issues.
To double check this I fired up my Ti-82 and graphed the equations in the video with no issue.

Reset it, it worked for me. Click 2nd, +, go down to Reset, enter, enter again at ALL RAM, go down to 2. RESET, enter

How do I enter brackets into the calculator? The equation i am confused with is y=-|x-1|+ 1

The Ti-84 has more ram so essentially its quicker at doing tasks. Other than that there is really no difference.

The TI-84 is an updated model of the TI-83; not much of a difference.
The Ti-84 Plus offers Mathprint the 83 isn't compatible with Mathprint

When inputting negative sign make sure to use the one next to the enter button not the one above the + button
