    I thought dwarf karaks were meant to be the toughest fortifications in warhammer, yet they broke through the gate with ease...

      +Scottx125Productions - Spiffingly Serious British Gaming! I pretty sure it's because of balancing for multiplayer seiges because if they were as tough as they are in Lore. People would just only play MP seiges on karak maps. I could be wrong but it's probably the best reason why.

    • @Adrien323
      @Adrien323 8 лет назад +4

      +Duke Nelsom I think you're right buddy, lore gets circumvented when balancing is an issue. You can't have invincible fortresses that massively trump every other siege map.

      +Adrien323 It would be nice if they looked a bit more daunting though. its a pretty crap wall for a major Dwarven city

      +Scottx125Productions - Spiffingly Serious British Gaming! I guess its early on the map and the city itself is not leveled up. You cant have them all max leveled at the beginning, it would be impossible to beat the city untill late game

    the dwarven Karak looks as if the dwarves skooped up the mountain (the whole thing - making it hollow) and have build a city there - that is not the case in warhammer, the dwarves build their Karaks WITHIN the mountain. They dig tunnels and halls of stone they don't build cities, they shape the rock to look like cities - this "karak" is an embarrassment - this looks like what humans would build if they were tasked with building a Karak. It is undefendable - the strengh of a Karak is its narrow corridors and strong gates within those corridors - when the skaven come THIS settlement is fucked, they will just pour over the walls like nobody's business

    • @kreeger7
      @kreeger7 8 лет назад +11

      +John Smith that would be a nightmare to code for though without having to make these sorts of compromises with the mechanics in place, do you really want to try and manage 2000 men through a 3 men wide tunnel? it wouldn't be as fun as you think. I would also imagine that making the tunnels would require filling the empty spaces with "stuff" like solid rock, which along with making it look good without effecting the freedom of the camera, would make the game run like a dog no matter the system running it as there would simply be too much stuff on screen at any given time.

    • @aaafakadam
      @aaafakadam 8 лет назад

      +John Smith Moreover, thinking gamplay-wise it will result in an endless and constant struggle for every single corridor. The defenders would be very advantaged, while the attacker...meh.... the use of artillery from outside the walls (or whatever they could be) would be pretty useless, while the defender could perfectly exploit bottlenecks at his advantage. And, as kreeger7 said, using the camera inside a limited space would be a nightmare... I'm not saying that i like this supposed "karak" as it is right now, but the "real"/lore ones would be pretty impractical to siege... it should be found a kind of compromise between the two i think

    • @arig1987
      @arig1987 8 лет назад +2

      +Riccardo Frigerio I feel like the original starcraft effectively showed that you can make a simple inside illusion. The ship missions were some of my favourite missions, and I always thought they looked great. It would undoubtedly make it difficult with the varying camera angles in total war, but I'm sure they could manage something like that.

    • @aaafakadam
      @aaafakadam 8 лет назад

      +Ari Gajewski on that I agree!!! That could be a viable option if realized in a proper manner... something like courtyards connected by many bridges all build upon a huge rock chasm maybe? Just brainstorming here

    I'm sorry but that is not a Dwarfen Karak, that looks like a nomal city with dwarfen iconography built in a cave, the concept of karak is a city carved in the mountain itself. Even though it looks kinda good (kinda not) this a terrible interpretation of what a karak might look like. I'm not saying it would be easy to create something like that but this is not the way to do it. And supposedly karaks are very hard to siege, that litlle wall is just pathetic if you ask me and such defenses hardly fit the lore.

    • @senorgrafton3334
      @senorgrafton3334 8 лет назад +13

      +Derp Cat Agreed, the whole concept of a karak is a Multi-walled citadel within a mountain, which has a fortified entrance. there should have been a siege to even get to the park of the "karak" he was in. and as you said, the defenses shown are not nearly to the scale of the lore.

    The whole concept of a dwarven underground city with walls that do not reach the top and can actually be climbed is Total Bullshit, expecially for a race who essentially is always inferior in numbers. I realize it is a game and it has mechanic standards but that's exactly what should be different with TW Warhammer: big differences in meta with each race.

    If they're going to do that, they need to have bigger settlements have different levels of the settlement you can conquer at a time going further and further to the center and smaller settlements should have full castles/cities at least!

    Walls are too small, city itself is too small. The Dwarfs should have way better defences, because they are not interested in gaining ground. Karak's are supposed to be these forts that are almost impossible to capture, how are you going to defend it with 2 meter high walls.

      No mate, because this game is (well, should,) be based on the lore! They keep saying "Oh, yeah, this game we really tried to follow the lore, blah blah blah." Then they need to do so. The walls look shit, this ain't a Karak, this is a normal city with a different background so that it looks like it's underground. The main thing with Dwarfs is that they're small, the weapons they use, and the cities. Same with LOTR lore, small, axes and giant underground cities. That's just what dwarfs are supposed to be like.

    • @DeathSummer16
      @DeathSummer16 8 лет назад

      +Ice_Breaker battles would always make defenders victorious than and people would always choose to play on dwarven maps it does not make game balaced. I like what they did with the cities.

    • @SacredBandBoy
      @SacredBandBoy 8 лет назад

      +DeathSummer16
      But the whole point of the dwarfs is to play defensively. I'm not saying that they should be unable to be captured, but they could've done a better job at the visuals. And making the walls higher wouldn't be a big problem, they could just make the siege towers higher. And sure, ladders would take longer to climb, but it would be very stupid if you could capture the walls of a Karak with ladders. And one giant gate would be awsome, a big entry point for the attacker, but a good choke point for the defender. Maybe trow in a bridge or something in front of that gate and place some statues next to it. It's a missed opportunity sadly.

      @Ariaelyne 8 лет назад +1

      +strayfies It's not so much that the graphics are bad, the actual texture quality seems pretty high on most of the siege videos, it's just this battle map seems remarkably barren compared to previous titles. Not helped in the least by the ugly lighting that just makes everything look muddy.

    Ehm. I am deeply sorry, but it looked like as if there were no textures on this Karak. It looked flat.
    And also there is no impact of Valgurf hitting the gate. Blatant. In medieval or some other TW (don't remember) you could see cracks or dust after each hit. The door was also not destroyed but just opened.
    But i am sure, they fixed it.

    Edit: Holy crap how lazy are CA. Look at their official siege video where they are sieging the city of Altdorf.... Same exact city layout. No wonder why I think this city looks terrible. The layout was just copy pasted and not refined at all for Dwarven architecture. While Altdorf looks amazing, this just looks terrible to me.

      +MC Mark Markson (MusicLover) i agree, although i never really got to sieges in the previous games (because i suck that bad) I feel like these sieges are more fun, especially with easier to identify units, its alot better because i can now clearly distinguish a ranged unit from a melee unit, a cavalry from infantry. because before they were just generic humans it got very confusing, but with the races now being distinct and warhammer, i can tell now so the battles are way more epic (and who wouldnt want to play as dwarves?) and may be easier for me to understand because of them being these great races

    Vampire Counts can't simply throw zombies and skeletons at dwarf warriors and expect to win. You have to use hammer and anvil. Use zombies and skeletons as anvil units, and use your few high quality units to flank enemy units one by one.

      +Total War Zone I agree for the most part. I do however think that they should go further back. In this for example I think the centre point should have been behind the two bridges, and the two alley ways to the side should have been opened up. Hopefully these will be some of the smaller cities, and they are focusing on the capitals to make them better, with tiered levels and such. I want a minas tirth style siege.

    I think everyone agrees the campaign map looks fantastic and the units look great too. However, as a dwarfs fan, the battle map for this siege looks bland, flat and too dark. I can't see any detail. The streets are empty. I imagined a dwarf settlement being besieged would be set against the mountain side long winding stairs and roads heading up to the gate. Not a totally flat settlement like something from Rome total war. Attila had depth when it came to campaign battles. Settlements were varied and immersive. This is just disappointing

    • @LuitherChaos
      @LuitherChaos 8 лет назад +7

      +RapidFyrez I'm sorry, but what you named here is what made Total war great. So by your logic, siege battles should not be breach the wall, spend 20 min fighting the garrison and trying to capture the city center? Long battles are frustrating? So you want a short battle, where you don't have to breach and conquer the city itself, just fight outside the siege and who ever wins gets the settlement? Do explain, because by my understanding you don't want a battle that traditionally done and how it was done during the past of our history.

    So, Zhufbar, one of the most advanced holds of Karak Ankor, which is supposed to have one of the biggest Engineer Guilds ever, has a tiny wall as its primary defense, and a bunch of randomly placed buildings behind them? I cannot really think of a proper naughty word to express my disapointment. Dwarven cities are supposed to be the mountains themselves, the entrance being a massive gate with watchtowers and gunnery posts on both sides. It does not look even as the city they showed in the trailer of Thorgrim, and although that one ALSO was not fluff-friendly, it at least looked unique and different from some random fishing village on Tilea. +TheMasterFixer68 You should take a look at "Call of Warhammer: Beginning of The End Times". It's not released yet, but they already have some kick ass custom settlements, big monsters and new units pictures on Moddb.com. The Medieval 2 engine is the best of all the Total war series. Modders are doing stuff on their free time, free of charge and better than CA.
      I like Warhammer, but buying a 70$ game with 5 factions, a crappy engine, probably 5 or 6 small factions DLCs at 9.99$ each, "blood and gore" DLC, one or two 25$ to 30$ expansion packs, pre-order DLC with a major faction that later will be paid DLC, not a sandbox campaign option, supporting lying developers (remember Rome 2) and fishy business practices like deleting top comments on the "Pre-order Chaos DLC video". No thanks, I will pass this one. The good old times when video games were quality products at release. Time has past and now I'm buying one or two game a year and usually it's old games at low prices. Fuck the time we are living in, it's sad.

      +Jordan R yeah,everyone is.But if it is to fix AI siege,maybe it is for the best.
      TBH the only way that sieges were cool in the old setting would be massive multiplayer battles,because otherwise the walls just feel empty.

    • @JordanR
      @JordanR 8 лет назад

      I agree and I was actually thinking about that. I feel like this single stretch of wall is going to make smaller multiplayer games A LOT more intense, since everyone will be funneled into one area, but at the same time it's going to limit your tactical options in larger ones AND make things a hell of a lot more crowded in 3v3, 4v4 etc. Not sure how I feel about it. I never played Atilla but I really loved how massive the cities could be and how epic it looked when I watch multiplayer videos.

    • @DeathSummer16

    Honestly, I'm just happy to see a siege. I love siege conflict and Warhammer will defiantly make sieges a new experience. Now before I regret pre-ordering after something CA said, but now I've long forgotten it and really wish this game the best. I was never a big conquer of entire maps, I'm a campaign quester and with campaign mission and new siege dynamics, I think Sparta you completed my interest in Total War: Warhammer.

    • @fitzitz234
      @fitzitz234 8 лет назад

      +Bromidias I guess it depends on the size of the armies and the quality of the troops. I mean if you have 40 units all on the walls so there are no gaps then maybe, but then if they break through the gate or walls and get behind your you're stuck. And if you don't completely fill the walls, they could outflank you in the gaps

    I will confess, I put the Mortal Kombat theme on in the background...
    My infodump is finished!
    Vampire Counts Infodump:
    The origins of Vampires originate from the Original Necromancer, Nagash the Black. Upon Nagash's defeat and retreat into exile, Princess Neferata of Lahmia saved some of Nagash's writings and studied them greatly. She eventually distilled an Elixir of Life and, along with High Priest W'soran, became the first of the Vampires upon drinking it.
    There are five major Houses of the Vampire Counts:
    House Von Carstein:
    The current ruling House, founded by Vlad Von Carstein. Most Vampires are either Von Carsteins or have pledged allegiance to them. Charismatic, arrogant, ambitious and wholly convinced of their House's exclusive right to rule. The Von Carsteins are the only known House who hold land populated by human subjects. The Count of each holding demands a Blood Tax as the only form of tax, which is implemented differently by each Count. They are every much undead nobility. It's current leader is Mannfred, by far the most cunning and magically adept of the bloodline. His end goal is only power; power and security from those who would take it from him. And he will take it by any means necessary.
    House Lahmia:
    Founded by Neferata, members of this bloodline function as eyes and ears to Neferata out in the world. They gather information and weave a web on intrigue with the aim of one day reclaiming the Land of the Dead in the south for her own. As a general rule, Lahmians are generally extremely beautiful women and exquisite swordsmasters. Many become assassins, spies and political masterminds. Neferata herself spends most of her time holed up in the World's edge Mountains where she holds a court of undead, the enthralled and her cats. Her home is built in the style of ancient Lahmia, from what she was able to salvage before it fell.
    House Necrarch:
    Founded by W'soran. The Necrach's are by far the most magically gifted of all the Houses; the hordes of undead they are capable of summoning can only be described as immense. Unlike Von Carsteins or Lahmias, they avoid Humans and can survive without blood for several years. They do, however, appear more monstrous. Not so much as the Strigoi, but enough that they cannot hide in plain sight. They usually inhabit ruins and abandoned buildings. W'soran was believed killed by his finest apprentice, Melkhior, in a bid for power. The truth is far more sinister - W'soran possessed Melkhior and devoured his old body. Over the years, he has continued to train other Vampires in necromantic arts, being responsible for teaching Mannfred Von Carstein. Again one of his pupils, Zacharias, appeared to murder and devour him; and again W'soran in actuality took Zacharias's body for his own. Now known as Zacharias the Everliving, all know better than to challenge him.
    House Blood Dragon:
    The greatest of all vampire warriors. The Order of the Blood Dragon was originally an Imperial knightly order, holding Blood Keep on the Bretonnian border. Then one night, they were corrupted by a follower of Abhorash, former protector to queen Neferata of the long-destroyed Lahmia. This follower bested every knight in single combat, sparing those who fought with honour. The Empire eventually sent a Witch Hunter and a massive army to storm the keep and destroy the fallen order. The Blood Dragons scattered but endured. Now however, rumours abound that the keep is once more occupied... The Blood Dragons are some of the finest warriors in the Warhammer world, all seeking to prove themselves worthy to Abhorash; that he might deign to share his knowledge to them. Long ago, Abhorash fought a dragon to the death at the peak of one of the World's Edge Mountains and drained it's blood upon slaying it; from then on, his hunger ceased. He waits on that very mountain peak for those of his followers who prove themselves worthy enough to be granted his blood and martial knowledge.
    House Strigoi:
    Founded by the long-dead Ushoran, the Strigoi Ghoul Kings once held a mighty domain. Now however, all that is gone. Outwitted by Neferata and their realm toppled by Greenskins, they are in hiding. Forced to dwell in the darkest, deepest hidden places many of the Strigoi have turned feral. Over time they have morphed into hunchbacked, grotesque monstrosities with limited impulse control and a taste for savagery. This causes ghouls to gravitate to them and often form grotesque courts. From their catacombs and graveyards, they spy on the other vampires and plot for their return to glory. Occasionally, a Strigoi becomes powerful enough and lucid enough to raise a large army to either overthrow their rival Houses or journey to the ruins of their old kingdom in an effort to retake it. Such efforts have always been thwarted by either masterful counterplotting from the other houses, the inexorable horde of Greenskins or even occasionally the disciplined, skeleton armies of the Tomb Kings in vengeance for the destruction of their lands.
    Necromancers frequently work with vampires - being pariahs in most other circles. Best known of these are Nagash the Black, inventor of necromancy itself, and Heinrich Kemmler, The Lichemaster. Both have displayed an absolute willingness to commit any atrocity to obtain mastery over death.
    Most Vampire Count troops are rather un-diverse: skeletons, zombies, ghouls, repeat. It is their special and rare units that are truly exceptional:
    The Varghulf - A vampire who has given in to his or her most primal and basic instincts and become little more than a savage beast. There is very little of the individual that once was remaining.
    The Vargheist - tThose who lose in the game of vampire politics face unpleasant fates. The Von Carsteins over the centuries have developed some especially unpleasant torments for their beaten opponents. One such fate is to be locked inside one's own coffin - being left to become a prisoner of one's own starvation. This drives them insane and warps them into a beast similar in many ways to a Varghulf, yet distinctly separate. They posses enough self awareness to be a aware of their living hell.
    Terrorgheist - An undead vampire bat the size of a dragon, usually ridden by Strigoi vampires. they bind to their masters and are inseparably loyal.
    The Zombie Dragon - It's a dragon that's been raised by necromancy; do I need to say more?
    Banshees - spirits of revenge and retribution with a deadly shriek.
    Wraiths - The most dangerous of all undead. The vengeful spirits of long dead necromancers clinging on desperately to life.
    Spirit Hosts - The souls of the damned stripped of all body and identity; they scream endlessly.
    Crypt Horrors - Best described as a ghoul equivalent to a troll.

  • @petar8671

    If modders in M2TW can make Moria, I'm certain CA can make a proper Dwarfen Karak... Honestly, what they're telling each other is
    CA employee #1: "Let's make this game look so different and new that no one will notice the stuff we fucked up on."
    CA employee #2: "Like Rome 2? That's genius!"
    Yet, despite how bad CA's games get, they still get our money. What we want in a game doesn't matter. We're just going to throw our money at them so they can keep pumping out games that decrease in quality release after release. This is why games get worse. It isn't the greed of big companies that causes bad games, it's the support and money they get from us. The best thing we can do for this particular game is wait and see how it turns out. If it's good, buy it. If it's bad, don't give in to the hype... *please*.

    It's now April - where are the most up-to-date previews of the games? Why the fuck would we want to see something done 2-3 months ago? We are supposed to want to buy the game from what we see in the previews, I have a 980ti and if this is being run on a 980 on ULTRA settings it can fuck right off or they are lying to your face. Looks like absolute trash not a 2-3 month old build but a 2008-9 built game. Why is the city so fucking bland? No details on anything, no lighting, no textures, doesn't look like a Dwarven city at all.
    The gameplay was so dark you might as well have stuffed the camera in a sock and filmed it through it, we would have been given the exact same result. Performance isn't dropping? Well, its pretty hard to drop from black blocks on a grey background. Oh the lighting needed to be adjusted? really? who in the development team let it get to the point where you would show that crap to the public without thinking "hmmm this looks a bit dark and shit...we should probably fix that first" are they blind? Do they play through squinting eyes?
    If this was a PR promotion then they wasted 30 minutes of your time and have turned a lot of people off the game. I was amped for the game (even with the DLC bullshit) but seriously, this is fucking atrocious.
    This is 2016, shitty quality $70 gaming titles are unacceptable especially if going with the DLC option.

      Not Pretty? Are you blind? It looks fucking terrible, It's 2016 and this game looks like a poorer version of Rome 2. You want to accept shit and pay top dollar for it? Go ahead. You want to Fangirl your brains out because it's Warhammer? Go ahead.
      Don't complain when you're treated like a Corporation's bitch in the future though.Who knows, maybe the next DLC content will be you have to buy the upgraded graphics.

    Imagine if this was moddable. A LoTR mod (Another Third Age) would be perfect. Thanks for the video!

    It feels like early in the game the Vampires will be trying to keep their units together, splitting weak infantry up often ends poorly.

      +George Ginev He said he was playing on an old bild. In on of their last vid, CA said that the lighting have been redone because they found it too dark.

    I understand that there may have been a bit of pressure to display everything in a positive light, given you were invited down, but a bit of cynicism goes a long way. I noticed a few performance drops, and really clunky animations, especially on the gate destruction
