I thought the 3D lasts were pure genius Uriel! If you haven't already, try using a rather stiff brush for applying your contact cement. Even an old toothbrush will work pretty good. You don't need to apply the cement quite so thickly either, but a liberal even coat is good. Let it dry for 2-3 hours, then heat them up until tacky. I liked your DIY press, too! Keep in mind, it is possible to press the materials too hard. If they are pressed with too much force the materials can deform to such an extent as to shear the bond apart, or weaken it nonetheless. Try letting the cement cure for a few days, at least, then freezing the shoes in the freezer before sanding. Ciao!
your method for getting the mold inside the shoe was so high tech compared to my method. i ended up using a pencil and a wood rasp / saw/ chisel. and roughed out a 2x4 block into a foot that fits in the shoe. took about and hour to get the 'foot' inside the shoe but for those who dont have a 3d printer you can do it low tech.
@uriel Soto Do you have a link to the Shoe last you designed, I have an old pair of climbing shoes I wouldn't mind reviving just to learn Thanks Max ace work
Hi, nice video. What kind of rubber are you using? EPDM, NBR, SBR or something else. What hardness is it? What thickness of rubber did you start out with? Thanx in advance
@@Yurikyurik got any source on that? I can only find wholesale, hard to justify $300 for an entire sheet. Anywhere you were able to get smaller amounts of rubber?
Hey there great Video! could you please explain how you scanned the shoe, what kind of camera? how do you position the shoe and the camera for the photographs? thats's a lot of questions I know, sorry!
The setup was: White table in the middle of the room, there was a magazine with some picture in the middle for the photogrammetry software to kind of find its place in space I hang the shoe with a string from the ceiling hovering over the magazine, toe touching the magazine I use a dslr camera nikon 5100 but i dont think thats important. The important part is to use a 50mm lens and set the depth of field so the shoe and magazine are in focus(front to back) and whatever is in the background of the room is out of focus Went around the table on a circle taking all the necessary pictures. all of them should be taken at the same distance for better results
Depends what you want from your shoe but basically climbing rubber. He's using XS GRIP here I think, you can use Stealth, Vibram or XS rubber as long as it's for climbing shoes
Ciao Simo.
Buddy do you know what a press costs? Sorry not everyone has $10k just sitting around. There is nothing wrong with his methods or quality, I'd be happy to have him as a friend and pay for resoling. Gotta do something to keep the poorly made shoes of late lasting longer.
