    You have bypassed the trap. Why do you think there is a trap under the sink?? Install another trap everyone, unless you want sewer smell coming back through the drain.

    • @diyshop839
      @diyshop839  4 года назад +9

      The washing machine drain out kit is fitted after the trap. The whole purpose of this is to prevent back flow. Since I have fitted this kit I haven't had a back flow problem or any drainage smells. I have 26 years building and DIY experience and am city and guilds qualified. If any one needs any professional advice please contact me.

    • @mit1346
      @mit1346 4 года назад +6

      @@diyshop839 Obviously it stops the back flow to the sink, I get that. So why bother putting in any traps at all then? Like a said there is a reason for the trap. The plumber that did mine flatly refused to do it like this. Bacteria and sewerage stench can push back, it's a potential health hazard. Clearly, there are different standards between trade professionals. You might have no smell because there is probably a non return valve in the line preventing this. You still have an open line from the drain out from the sewer that has a clear pathway through the dishwasher outlet hose. You should put a 2nd trap between the drain out people.

    If they both discharge at the same time, they still have to get through the same diameter waste pipe after this change, so how does this help?

    • @diyshop839
      @diyshop839  3 года назад +9

      Hi Andrew,
      When they discharge at the same time what happens is that the dishwasher waste water goes into the spigot of the trap.
      When the waste water from the washing is discharged into the the waste pipe there is a gap or space between the two waste waters therefore you don't get back flow.

      The anti syphon trap reduces the gurgling noise, also it provides a protection against loss of water in the trap which acts as a barrier to stop waste smells coming from your drain and traveling to your sink.

      Hey, my old neighbour had a similar issue and they asked me to see if I could see why their washing machine water backs up into the sink. So when I had a look at the waste pipes, the washing machine outlet pipe was joining the waste pipe directly beneath the sink outlet, so I suggested the washing machine drain off connection be after the p- bend trap. So I bought a taping kit and put the washing machine connection towards the end of the pipework run, so it's the last connection before it goes out of the back wall of the unit. Still the water is backing up into the sink. What could be the cause now? I can't seem to think anything else how this can be resolved. The only thing I can now think of is that the waste outlet pipe has a blockage?

      Hi Vicky,
      If this has always been happening then you can fit a drain out kit and that will work fine,
      However if this is a new thing and has just started happening then you most likely have a blockage in the trap or somewhere along the waste pipe. I would recommend a plumber, but you can send me some photos or a video and I can help you further.

      Hi Jenny,
      It's difficult to say without photos or a video, however it's most likely that your drain hose is too low and therefore forceing bad smells back in to your washing machine.
      Your drain hose should slope down towards your spigot.
      There is a possibility that if you have a standpipe and your drain hose hooks in to it then the end off the hose should project 4 inches and then hook over the standpipe.
      Hope this helps.

    • @diyshop839
      @diyshop839  2 года назад

      Hi David,
      The most likely cause of this is that you have a blockage in the trap or somewhere along the wastepipe. It's very unusual if you only have one appliance to get backflow when the waste water is discharging. I would suggest checking for blockages first and then go from there. If you get stuck, please feel free to get in touch.

      Hi Gary,
      If both the dishwasher and washing machine discharge at the same time, in most cases, you get backflow. This then causes the waste water to come backup into the kitchen sink. Generally a standpipe appliance trap is fitted just for the washing machine because this has a big drop. With regards to the sink trap normally the dishwasher waste pipe is fitted to the spigot/nozzle. With regards to the design featuring 2 nozzles it's basically a shortcut but not really best practice when trying to avoid backflow.
