Lucky enough to see Sandy play in his prime. One of most talented ball strikers ever. He could flush it with a bunker rake. Should have been a Ryder Cup captain. Great episode.
Played Woburn in June, and I was lucky enough to play with Sandy's son James. He was a top bloke with some great stories about his dad.
Sandy Lyle my golfing hero,awesome golfer and by all accounts a great guy.His 1988 Masters win was simply magical,good to see him looking so well 👍😊
Growing up Lyle was my favourite player, a real ball striker. 2 majors, Players, world matchplay and Volvo Masters wins.
Ran around many courses watching him and the big5 , the only 1 who could really hit a 1 iron like a bullet))) a true legend!!!!!

Seve famously said that if all the players played their best, Sandy would win and Seve would be second. Praise doesn’t get any higher! Sandy used to outdrive most of his contemporaries using a 1 iron off the tee. Great ball striker, fabulous golfer and top bloke.

There's no better feeling than hitting 100+ year old clubs out of the sweet spot. Sandy's clubs are modern replica's properly matched throughout the set. Rick looks like he's playing originals - a whole different ball game putting mismatched clubs together to make a set. Still great fun to play.

I remember Sandy being a regular pro on Pro-Celebrity Golf with Peter Alliss. Sevvy would watch him drive off, and then say how can a guy with half a back swing hit it so damn far!!!!???
Rick Shiels you must sit down at the end of a day and have to pinch yourself when you remember who you've played golf with. Nothing but praise and a little envy to you 👍🏼

It was because old school winners have little to no chance of winning and someone could take their place who are current tour pros. They didn't say to exclude them from the event all together just the main tournament as a player
