Video got too long so I split it, Ill post part 2 tomorrow morning at 8:30 EST!! Thanks for watching!
Awesome! A Diesel Creek marathon!
cant be too long lol but will take a bonus ep happily . btw the lights and camera function properly its just there both on 60 hz feq normally most of us cant see it , for those of us that can detect it it causes issues. thanks for the videos i believe a polarizing filter will work or post processing software filters are available...
So Matt splits videos but not nuts 🤔🍻
Cursed Christine Lives!
I just saw one of these sitting in the bush for sale. I thought of you, but then figured mehhh you must have it sorted by now. Then this vid came up! If you are really stuck for parts(you make the deal and then.. ), i could probably act as a "3rd party wrench", if you need. Its a fair ways away from me now but.. Depends how stuck you are?! If your seriously needing parts, send me an email, to send you a link to it... We can figure it out from there.
Our thanks to the guy who helped you out with the clutch 👌
I hope you realize just how much we appreciate the time and trouble you go through to provide us with your awesome content! Voted (by me, at least) one of the best channels on RUclips! Thanks, Matt!
And thirded (is that even a word 🤷♂️)👍
Forthted, I dont care if its a word or not :P
Definitely one of my favourites. Right up there with mymechanics and Grind Hard Plumbing
YEP!!
Def top 3
Matt don’t worry about the colors not being perfect. This is a working grader and not a museum trailer queen.
She is Beautiful Matt, it is Great to see her back in Action.
Remembering what goes where is every mechanic's challenge, I know the struggle. I'm very happy for getting this grader back together, God bless the subscriber who helped you out and saved you over $1,000.
ya tgat subscriber is like an angel. may allah bless him
When I disassemble something like that, especially when I know it’s going to be apart for a while, I reinstall the fasteners in their original location. That way when it comes time to put things back together, I don’t have to dig for fasteners and try to remember what came from where. The fasteners are already where they need to go. Can’t always do that, but it helps when you can.
@@notajp Exactly as I do, also zip lock baggies and a sharpie marking pen help with nuts and bolts storage and later identification!
@@notajp Can't beat photos and Zip Locks !
I take pictures lots,,,theni actually draw parts ... or i mark them using a carbide pen.. Use tape. Also white out and a white pen.. Just like the fan i just rebuilt.. 2 cups for parts left right and draw the shaft so I know.. Plus washers go in twist ties.. Always on a towel so parts dont run away.. and a sence of humor that #1.. And still I do things 2 times.....
"This is a little bit easier than I remember".... famous last words! LOL! 😆😆
That tip for cleaning out threads is a cool trick. Great work Matt. Watching you do your thing all the way from Ireland 🇮🇪
Matt, the Galion grader is a beaut, really amazing. Great for the farm.
Absolutely right! The Galion Grader is GORGEOUS! Great job, Matt and those who helped to make her live again! 😁
Can hardly wait for Part II! What a great machine for building your new shop!
I can't tell you how many projects I've started with the intentions to only do this or that, but snowballed! I'm glad your getting the grader going again!
Love your, four-legged quilt that's walking around behind you!
Spends over a year rebuilding a machine that has fought him every step of the way, worries about the paint not matching.
It's looking good.😘
I have the same problem with paint on Scoopy(my profile pic). I started painting the dash in 2007 when I first got it running. Life got in the way and I needed to hire work done on the steering clutches. While work was being done on the drive train, I painted most of the sheet metal. Now that I have a bunch more painted and figured out it was different than the first batch, I can't buy that color anymore. Some kind of "paint shortage", Pfffttt!
Oh well, at least it runs and drives like it should now and I can actually go play in the dirt. 😁
I love a Saturday morning with some diesel creek in it!!
For me it’s afternoon
@@swedishcrowbar4211 same here, I am also from Sweden.
LOVED THE SPONGEBOB "TWO WEEKS LATER" !!! CLASSIC
It’s nice to have the help of a friend
Awesome to see her alive again. Loved that you let Chris and DP put a bit of time on her.
I hope Chris gave you a few tips on using the grader. It is not a easy machine to use.
@@assassinlexx1993
Yep, looking over Chris' shoulder while grading is quite something, always adjusting here and there.
Not an easy machine to operate !
Hey Matt, if you ever need a clutch alignment tool for something rare/obscure, you can use a piece of tube and wrap tape around it to get the right diameter for the pilot and the inside of the splines. Works a treat 👍
Ultimately it seemed that the machine was setup for the method he used...the spline on the input shaft then the access port to pull the bolts...remember back in the day they didn't have all the fancy alignment tools we had, but I bet your method would have worked just as well! :)
Facing the same problem a couple of times, I made them with a wooden dowel on my wood lathe. Fast and easy.
@@marcryvon We used to use pieces of broom handles years ago.
@@marcryvon That's what I was thinking...
Actually, I have a what you might call a universal clutch alignment tool. It comes with various fittings that clip on the end of it for different size pilot bearings. It then has a couple of different tapered cones that you can put on the shaft that will center the clutch plate. Works pretty good, and I've had this tool for 35 years. And not expensive, either.
Chris sure looked like he was having FUN operating ole Christine at the Pike show!
I have been watching you use your Dewalt impact wrench for a couple years, and decided at the ripe old age of 72, to get a version for myself too! Got a Ryobi 1/2” it’s a beast.. used it on lower ball joints, what fun! Well you know, not exactly fun, fun, but eases the pain..😂
The impact drivers are quite amazing. I was using battery drills for a long time before I got an impact driver, now have two and they get more use than the drills.
There are universal clutch alignment tool sets for times like these. Might be the next tool to buy to have on hand for the "odd" projects. Can not wait to see part II tomorrow! It was great to see Christine running and working at the show in Brownsville last week. I enjoyed our chat as well, keep up all the great work and content coming Matt!
I've been waiting for more on Christine. Looking great! Just a tip, when using Chinesium bearings take a pick and remove the seal on one side and add a little extra grease. Thanks for the video Matt.
Truthfully a ZZ double shielded bearing would be better, the RS rubber shielded bearings don't handle the heat like the shielded (plus like you said the grease in those chinese bearings suck!!!!)
One problem is if you pack too much grease they tend to drag and heat up, don't ask me how I know...
Oh Man! A DC video on Sat & Sun morning like old times! Lookin' forward!!!!!!!
Christine is beautiful, thank you.
Sitting here watching this with my Diesel Creek hat on enjoying the morning.
U need mustie1’s thingamabob he connects to I believe as an attachment to an air chisel That does the hammering while you spin the slotted screw
Matt I give props to you to ever project you do
Anything and everything I have used made by 3M over the past 40+ years has been top notch.
Happy Memorial day weekend everybody.
Hey Matt 🙂 You did a thing, and that thing was old heavy equipment restoration 🤟🏼 Best part: you brought us all along for the ride. Always greatly appreciated, sir. Plus we now know that an Autocar chassis doubles as a pretty good workbench 😆
Damn……good looking “Grader”……..great job……👍👍👍👍👍👏👏👏👏
My 10yr old and I love your channel and we don’t know anything about these heavy machines!!
It is sweet seeing all these pretty pieces go back together. I know it has been a long road. Good job!
This video made my day!!. So great to see her coming back together. My dad worked for the road department. And he ran a machine almost identical to this. Great childhood memories of sitting up in this massive old hunk of steel and looking out over all the hoses and levers And to little me at the time it seemed like something like that could move anything. When they were working near the house they would park the machines there so they didn't have to take them all the way back to the township building till they were finished I will remember that old grader and the massive old roller till the end of my days. can't wait to see part 2. All the thumbs up!!!
A genuine Krylon overhaul. I've used a deep well socket for clutch plate alignment and also confirmed the input shaft and the clutch splines still fit together with the new pilot bearing.
@@bhaebe6671, that was far more than a Krylon overhaul. Matt did tons of rust repair and hydraulic part rebuilding along with the clutch and new tires. When someone is trying to unload a worn out unit and does a spray can overhaul all they do is cover up the issues and hope no one looks too close. This was no crazy over restoration, but it was an excellent maintenance and ready to get back to work rebuild. Calling it a Krylon overhaul is almost an insult.
@@bastarddoggy I agree. Matt deprecates his hard work but fact is, he does just the service that's been put off for decades. These machines were made crazy tough or they wouldn't be here now, let alone working properly! :-D That's what tickles me - to see a useful tool become useful again!
She looks better then factory new. Thanks man.
This is comment 680. There is nothing I can add to the previous 679. Awesome. Thank you so much.
She needs her flags in the flag holders
Looks awesome. Allot of work and more work to create and share the content. Appreciated!
Yes, Please........... Flags!
Christine is looking great. Let's hope that she appreciates all the work you've done by behaving herself 👍
An old school hand held impact driver is my favourite.
So cool seeing it go back together.
Looks great so far. Can't wait for part 2!
This is my favorate build of all that l have watched on this channel.
Dad operated a Galion grader for 20 years.
One of the most expensive T-shirts I'll ever wear but l just had to have it 😵💫
Yes! I have waited for a re-mentioning of the wobble Socket! Thanks a lot!
9:00 Meatball is looking sharp!
You did an amazing job so far and I can't wait to hear this thing run and drive...but also grade some dirt!
Ahhh my favorite Saturday morning content watching a crazy neighbor to the south use a torch on a workbench next to a asston of pressurized cans of flammable stuff 😂😂😂😂
Remember a few episodes ago when Matt did a “will it burn” on the bed of his service truck and almost caught a ratchet strap on fire? As long as he doesn’t get hurt we can all relate and enjoy!
Your choice of music fits your channel PERFECTLY!!
Thank the Semi-Supervillains, they create all the music you hear on the channel!
Matt , Blessed be the name Dewalt..Thanks for another excellent video and taking us with you upon this restoration of Christine.
Good tip on the thread cleaner. I will try this. Thanks Matt.
YES! been waiting all morning. I love seeing new content from you.
Hope you enjoy!
Shes alive !!! Great to see she even made it to the show !
A top grade video if I've ever seen one. I still can't help myself.
Christine OWES YOU for all this work you've done on this resto. Great work, can't wait to see it in action!!!😎👍
I AGREE! You should have a ceremony and rechristen her!! Retire that curse and accept the new blessing!
couple cans of hydro fluid oughta do it
On the clutch plate bolts - I would've cut them with the recip saw, then drill the bolt. No matter, you got the new plate which eliminates the issue with the corrosion.
Great video!
They needed to be screwed in to go out. I think Matt had that wrong.
I love your collection of old shovels!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Not all mine hahah I wish!
Firewall installed looks great and Radiator and Spacer Next Nice Matt lots of progress on this video and project 38:30 @Diesel Creek
Already caught a glimpse of It Grading a Road, Sweet Unit for sure.
The people that complain about your " shade tree ways" need to try it them selves. You do what you have to do to get the job done.
Agree. Equipment like this sees far worse in the field. The foreman wants it working asap to get the job done - he doesn't care how and he isn't going to pay for more time to re-do a hack job fix. That would make him look less efficient to the boss. Matt takes more care than most when working with equipment like this.
Oh man she is looking great now she will live another twenty years five stars brother thank you for sharing
I LOVE the Christine T Shirt design. I HAD to stop the video and order one for myself.
Your skill backing up the trailer is impressive!
Long trailers are usually easier to back than short trailers, however he did an AMAZING job on that really long run
I absolutely love that grader. WELL DONE Matt.. really , well done !!
I can tell this is your passion. Thank you Matt
Christine looks so good. You did a great job Matt
Good tip on the make shift tap. I’ve done that before with good results. Man what a project but she’s getting real pretty for the construction ball!
06:30 I've used hydraulic nut splitters on large bolts (3/4 and up). I have one of those nut splitters in my home tool box too and I don't think it has ever earned its keep either. But the big hydraulic ones do work. Great for busting flange bolts.
I love the smell of burning Kroil in the morning. 🙂
Great to see Christine coming alive again ..... so much so I just ordered the tee shirt, great stuff Matt
She is looking a peach now ,you have done an awesome job on Christine ,great video 👍👍
Thanks 👍
A big thank you to your viewer that helped you source the parts. Great video and I look forward to part 2. She looks good in her new clothes. Thank for sharing.
Great to see this project finally come to completion. Hard to believe it's been that long since the RUclips algorithm decided out of the blue that I'd like to see some guy doing a will it run video on an old grader in a tree line. Turns out RUclips was right about that.
that grader has given you so much trouble we should call it a hoodoo machine. its good seeing it come back together.
I'm just excited that you painted something! 🤣 Well done 👍
25:57
At one airport they had issue with mud wasps building nests in measuring instruments of planes (they are roughly same size hole as your fuel line) they found out the wasps will start building as soon as 20 minutes of plane sitting at airport. So yeah, protect your holes :D
As a teenager of the 60's, I've replaced many clutch, pressure plates, throw out bearing (on Corvettes) and made decent money doing it. First time to see a rebuilding. Interesting. Thanks.
I love how when you break something you cut to a new segment (probably after you find the parts to repair what you broke). 🤣 I must thank you for teaching me how not to do something followed by how to do it correctly. I'm just yanking your chain, we all know it's part of the game. I think Mustie1 says, "I do it right because I do it thrice"! 🤣👍
Matt, I think your intros are some of the best out there!
Beautiful man...I like the way she's turned out. Good work man....well done ✔ 👏 👍
Keep up the good work
I love how let's dig 18 shows up from time to time to help you . Chris is great at what he does
You do all the work... Will take all the enjoyment. TY for all your time...
Matt, if you ever need to put something down as a water barrier like the grease again there is a product that is designed for exactly that, sycaflex. It's common use is around through hull fittings on boats. The variant that would also be usable is butyl tape, a roll of what looks like weather stripping that can seal the edges leaving the gap itself but it sealed from water ingress. Perfect for around bolts / screws to keep water off them.
Came here to add that rust can form under grease.
@@Highstranger951 well machinery grease is often water soluble so that doesn't surprise me.
sika flex
Matt. I have turned many a clutch allignment tool out of a piece of round wood stock on th lathe. It only takes a few minutes and saves a ton of fiddling when trying to reinstall the transmission. You only use it once usually so it works fine. My tool box has an assortment of them dating back to the 60's. :-)
Heck yeah man glad to see her back up in action
you are oing such a great job i cannot wait to hear christine roar to life!
omg... what a awesome vid!!!! she is lookin great!!! cant wait for part 2 ... and the Christine tee-shirts are sooo cool im definitely going to buy one !!! you should be proud you did a great job on her !!
I thought you would bring out this video soon, saw the finish on let's dig the other day. Christine looks great, you did a great job
Snazzy Job, Matt!
Was watching "Hamiltonville Farm" live stream on a Galion Grader 835. Talking about the Galion 503 (Christine) saying that you did a "Fantastic" job at restoring and painting of the grader.
It looks awesome great job
Looks like it was a beautiful mild Spring day the day you were filming this bout with Christine. We have been robbed of our nice Spring weather here in Central Texas. The video makes me want to get on outside and turn some wrenches today but it's almost 100°. 100! Already!
Well done Matt! Old girls come up a treat! 🇦🇺🍺🍺
Very nice Matt time we’ll spent Go Christine thanks for keeping the old iron alive 👍👋🇨🇦
Great to see Christine going back together.
Shuddered a bit when I saw the battery cable draped over the sediment bowl (34:40) but figure you addressed that at a later time.
Matt, regarding "terrible lights" - the flickering shows because electricity for lights (DC) and camera frequency match. An easy fix would be to change either to "desync" them - eg. one to 50 while the other remains at 60 :)
Not camera frequency, camera FPS. NA power is 60HZ and he's most likely filming in 60FPS.
You would get beat frequencies and it would still flicker on camera. The only solution that works is to get lights that don't flicker or to sync them. I'd go with option 3: Live with it. He doesn't do much filming in those containers anyway.
I was born in Galion in 1951 we were very proud of our equipment that Perfection Co built.
Christine lives! 😻
Absolutely beautiful work on Christine man keep up the good work she looks real good
Love the channel and Christine is looking minty fresh
You operating the torch next to all those flammable aerosol cans has me giggling hahaha
I'll definitely watch tomorrow
