    In case people are wondering "where the hell are Steve, Sonic, Aegis and Kazuya?", for those who immediately jump to the comments section instead of... you know... watching the video, I explain that those characters are too obvious and would make for a predictably boring video. So I wanted to check out some other characters besides them.

      Still Peach and Diddy over things like Pac-Man and Cloud is absurd.
      Like Peach's absurd damage output is so hard to get is not even an issue

    I think a video on character reworks would be cool, Steve, Kazuya, Sonic, Aegis etc. It would be a generally interesting video to see your attempt at balancing them.

      I honestly don’t think Kazuya needs a rework. He’s just designed to be polarizing. The ultimate glass cannon so I’d say he’s fine.

      The problem with reworking sonic is that you either sacrifce his character for better gameplay representation(current smash sonic in my opinion is a good representation of how sonic plays in the classics at least,you are rewarded speed for knowing the layout of the stage a.k.a rewarded with one of the best advantage states for guessing right) or sacrifice gameplay for personality and make him a more extreme fox with no reflector,or go crazy give him excalibur and make him a swordie.

    3:14 fun fact: Bayonetta’s Witch Time actually slows min min from maximum distance if she times it right. While the arms not being projectiles normally hinders typical counters and reflectors, them being disjoints actually allows Bayonetta to counter a full dragon arm laser from across the stage and punish. Just another reason a lot of Min Mins/Bayos think the matchup is hard for min min

      @@blueheart9873 edgeguards Min Min hard. Abk is a burst option that puts Min Min in disadvantage. She uses her jumps to avoid Min Min's arms. Bats within and witch time are disruptive to Min Min's gameplan. And you're saying she can't do anything???

      Ironic how a solid chunk of the good buffs Bayo got in Ultimate came directly from the Min Min patch.

    Diddy Kong and peach require such a high level of skill to fully use their high tier tools that I think they should stay where they are. The meta isn’t overrun by diddy and peach, it’s only the highest levels of play that can even use some of the more difficult or circumstantial tech.

      Sort of agree, people is so into combos that forget about neutral and stuff and are only fishing for the same things. But I mean Peach combos are "easy" to do and you get 80% damagd out of it, same for Diddy, people in my city can get those consistently and aren't even top something in my small town, now imaginr what pros get.

    As someone who plays a sword character, I'm fine with how Diddy Kong is because sword characters don't need to be indirectly buffed.
    Also Peach/Daisy not having the damage reduction on low float aerials is fine imo being it rewards the player for doing a hard input.
    If I had to find a replacement for these 2 characters (while following the no Steve, Sonic, and Kazuya rule), I'd probably go with Pikachu and Snake. Pika could use a nerf to pancaking, and for Snake I'd kinda like to see him take slightly more damage from his own grenades compared to his opponent.
    Overall very interesting video even if it is very unlikely Nintendo ever patches the game.

      Yeah as annoying as diddy is sword characters could use a few bad matchups. I play mostly swordies and every time I switch off I'm struck by how difficult it is deal with their hitboxes. I think diddy is ultimately fine.

    Would be nice if g&w chef didn't loop while holding b, as that would make the move much easier to contest(also the looping doesn't stale the damage which is ridiculous)

      Mashing B gets more projectiles, if I remember right. It's conceptually a move that's meant to be spammed, with the potential weakness of being vulnerable from all other angles that are not from the front.

    Diddy Kong?? Yeah, no. Diddy's strong, sure, but the poor guy's recovery is extremely exploitable, and some of his changes from Smash 4 I think were enough to cut him down to size. Dude's still a killer too. Lol.

      He's popular, yes. But he's definitely not a top-tier or Top 20. He does have a weakness.

    Peach should be buffed. As one of the most complex characters that creates some of the most interesting gameplay interactions, and who counters the most degenerate gameplay, playing her should be incentivised and rewarded.

    One character I personally have a hard time with is Snake, with his grenades and up tilt. I'd say at least nerf his up tilt in some way.

      @@takarijbartleby ok I think those 2 characters could do well against snake if played correctly. With Aegis her speed could be a problem for a snake player just gotta play around snake's projectiles and gotta capitalize on snake's disadvantage state and you should be ok.

      Agreed. Snake is one of the most annoying characters to play against. He's too fast, too powerful, too heavy, too good of an Up-B, has too big of hit boxes, and too many projectiles. It is a criminal case to have one character have all of this.

    I feel like Rob was kinda an obvious character to nerf like Steve, Aegis, and Sonic.
    His one and only weakness is "being big" (which has never been an enormous difficulty for stopping characters from being good, Mewtwo in Smash 4 for example)
    And his size doesn't offset his enormous advantages
    -Great combos and projectiles
    -Dangerous from pretty much any range
    -Good matchup spread
    -Very easy to play

    Just redesign Ganondorf to be what he should be and he will knock all the oppressive top tiers down a peg. Instead of a slow Falcon, he'd be a hard hitting Peach with float.

    ARMS in general has a system where the arms can be damaged and not usable for a period of time which would help in Smash, if your Arm got broken, that’s on you so now the opponent has a more comfortable window to approach

      That would make Min Min very bad. She would basically lose the game as soon as one her arms became unusable even if for a little bit.

      ​@@Sergio-wc1wnI actually don't think that's a bad idea depending on how long it takes to recover. Plus her non-Arm moves would still work (Dtilt, UpSmash, Jab). It will, however, make their play style more campy

    I don't think Diddy Kong needs to be nerfed. He's a really important character in the meta because he beats most of the FP2 characters.

    The reason diddys banana is the way it is in every game is because thats how the banana item is in every game, so to nerf diddys banana would be to nerf the item

      Which is not a good design. The thing about playing with Items even if they are at max spawn only bananas is that you have to go out of your way to pick one up while Diddy can CHOOSE when to spawn one, that choice is the problem. It would not be hard or unprecedented to change just one seemingly minor property of Diddy Bananas and leave Item Banana alone.

      @@Redpoppy80diddy kong rarely ever wins majors. Just like every character, banana is just another gimmick. Just adapt and learn, use it against him. Literally have never ran into a diddy that I’ve had problems defeating. Only good diddys are generally the best players that make every character look op anyways.

      @@Bv312In every single Smash game Diddy has appeared in Banana has been busted. That’s not up for debate as it was broken in brawl and got nerfed in both Smash 4 and Ultimate which is a testament to how bad a design a move like banana is. Fact is games involving Diddy always devolve into the neutral game being controlled by banana. An item that is banned from usage that he gets a free pass on that causes the opponent to trip. That in turn causes games to crawl at a snails pace due to how careful the opponent has to be as to not get cheesed out by Banana shenanigans. That’s not even mentioning him also fitting the archetype of being a small, fast character with great hitboxes that can be hard to hit. Banana is better off being replaced with another move. Hell making pop gun a more a usable project would be a far better route to take in terms of him having a good neutral tool.

    I'm a peach main and while I see what your talking about it just isn't a strong enough reason to nerf her because peach already struggles so much. Peach literally needs whatever she can get. Playing her is like playing smash on hard mode. She struggles against all swordies and isn't too strong against many characters in the roster. You just have to be a good player with good IQ and serious dedication to peach. Also it's just really hard to do grounded float to begin with. That extra damage you get on forward air is like a reward for mastering it and actually landing it on your opponent because that isn't easy either.

    I get why you didn’t include Steve, Kazuya and so on since it would make your video predictable. But your video ends up being predictable because of the thumbnail anyway

    For MinMin, maybe making her arms (the noodle part) part of her body, as in having a hurtbox, could maybe help with that, kinda like Piranha Plant's down b.
    For ROB, what the fuck is this up-b ? I know it has limited fuel, but it sure does not feel like it. And it fully recharges in like less than 2 seconds, when Robin's up-b takes 10 seconds for a lot less stellar recovery. And maybe have moves that use his reactor (aka down-air, b-air, n-air and up-smash, all fantastic moves by the way) also deplete a bit of fuel.

    I know Min Min gets a lot of hate, but I just stan her for the very fact that every now and then I can see her pick apart a swordie and see those who space you out with the same wide arc bullshit attacks frustrated for once.

    The peach change is such a nothing change imo it like doesnt change anything thats actually frustrating about peach, you barely feel the extra damage and the extra damage wouldnt matter anyway since ur reverting kill power nerfs. It feels so weird when like you could just nerf turnips or something like that. Also the diddy one is dumb literally dont let him pull banana. Banana is already hella conditional and tbh its not that hard to avoid. Also not being able to block banana is such hyperbole, either protect against monkey flip timing by reacting w a dodge or like be far away.

    Waluigi’s so strong you can’t even Choose him as a character and have to turn on items to unlock him, and he always buries you

    As a Paisy main, I do wish that fair was stronger, but I'd hate to lose the float cancel bonus. But I see where you're coming from.

    Without looking at the video : Steve, Sonic, GnW, Kazuya, Min Min
    Edit / After watching it : I agree with most of your picks. I would also like to say though
    - GnW : This character is too mashy for having moves that last for too long and deal absurd damage. GnW either needs to do less damage for how much he can spam or he needs more end-lag on everything he does.
    - Peach : I dont mind the damage of Float-Aerials. If anything, I would like Turnips to be nerfed. She either pulls a good item or a broken one that allows her to kill you in 4 hits. To compensate for his, revert her previous nerfs and make her Floating easier to use in general.

    Peach requires so much skill to pull off, arguably the most skilled character. She already struggles to kill until 200%+. Full hop aerials take a lot of skill to pull off. Why not nerf Cloud? He outranges many characters and does not take even close to as much skill as characters like Peach, Diddy, etc.

    While I disagree with the peach segment, I do find it humorous that most of these characters on the list wouldn't be nearly as annoying is move clanking was useful as it was in other games. Also, as a Min Min main her survivability isn't called into question nearly enough in my opinion, like she just doesn't die sometimes and there's also the fact that she has no end lag on air smash attacks into her up special to the point where it looks like she's canceling into it.

    Steve - I have a lot of changes in mind, but the biggest one is altering the properties of his blocks and/or his up smash so he can no longer up smash on top of a block. I personally think the biggest issue with Steve isn't his crazy combo game or his oppressive neutral, it's the fact that when he wins neutral and gets a crazy combo, it almost always results in a stock loss, and up smash is the biggest offender for that particular issue. I can think of other changes, too, like not allowing him to mine while on top of an anvil, sending him into tumble when a block breaks below him, or having actual cooldown on placing blocks (this would also help mitigate his incredible camping), but in my opinion up smash is the secret root of the problem.
    Aegis - I would heavily nerf Mythra's foresight by adding extra lag to the animation, so it now resets neutral instead of giving Mythra free advantage. I would also nerf Mythra's kill power across the board to really force the player to use Pyra, and remove the rising hitbox from Pyra's up special to make the move not such a ridiculous out of shield kill option.
    Kazuya - I would make him normal. Crouch dash no longer has intangibility, though WGF/EWGF still does. His jumpsquat is reduced to 3 frames, and all of his attacks follow Ultimate's normal formulas for hitstun and hitlag, though the Tekken-style particle effects remain. I'd also increase his full hop height to be able to jump to Battlefield's platforms. Then I'd let him loose, and he'd probably either be really broken or really bad. Either way, now he mechanically functions much more like the other FGC characters, who are far more balanced.
    Terry - I would make his Go! moves stronger, but you can only use one per stock. As it very obviously should have been from the start.
    R.O.B. - I would make Gyro bounce straight up after hitting somebody, which would remove his ability to perform long zero-to-deaths, but could still potentially lead into interesting technical combos occasionally.

    With Steve, the devs really should have removed his ability to ledge stall and plank with blocks.

      Steve should not be able to place blocks in the air unless the block is connected to another block. Just like how minecraft is supposed to be played

      I think Steve's block play is actually what makes him interesting. It's his insane damage output, combos and kill power that undermine his credibility as a character

    Glad u didn’t actually make the video about the chars u mentioned in the beginning like Steve, Kazuya, Sonic etc. cuz imo chars like don’t actually need nerfs but rather complete reworks in how ur meant to play them

    I honesty think Arms didnt need a rep, an assist trophy was fine for them. Min Min playstyle just isn't fun to watch or play in my opinion.

    To me, the most annoying thing about Min Min is Mega watt at ledge because for some reason it not only hits ledge, but if timed correctly, also covers neutral and jump getup all while killing at 50% and being unpublishable

    I still think min min is a lot more toxic than kazuya ever could be. Yes kazuya can mix you but at least he’s playing the game

      100% buddy. I tend to respect Kazuya players even when I lose cause I know they spent unfathomable amounts of time to master his combos.

    Maybe they could remove float damage bonus on one of the princesses, but they'd need something back in exchange besides just reverting Fair and Dash attack KO power. Heck, they could even bring back her Smash 4 backthrow and it still wouldn't be enough. I'd rather see one of them given nothing but standard turnips but normal KO power. Peach and Daisy, as they are, feel like they were designed for an entirely different game. At the very least, they could be given a reliable kill confirm.

    I was about to fight you when I saw Peach in the thumbnail, but I'm more than okay with the recommended nerf. Definitely don't need full jump damage on float aerials. Nerfing float damage would make bnb combos easier :)
    Edit: "more consistent" instead of "easier"

    Im surprised Joker isnt on this list, its insane to me Arsene back air was never nerfed, and the fact that most characters just have to run away when joker gets arsene is absurd and just not at all fun to fight. Hes already a decent character without but hes undoubtedly the best in the game when he has arsene. He has steve diamond bair on a character with sheik mobility.

    Not a nerf but i'd like to see Powershields return and also reduced stickyness of platforms. I think those two things would buff enough bad characters. But i also just think buffing is usually a better option unless it's like Steve or Kaz where my nerfs are just slight reworks tbh

      I think Parrying is overall a better mechanic in terms of activation because Powershields could often happen by accident if you raised shield immediately after doing a move, while with Parrying you're dropping shield the opponent is about to attack you.
      I do think Powershielding did a much better job at feeling rewarding, which is why I understand where you're coming from, but honestly I think that Parrying would make for a better system if they buffed how it worked against weak attacks (like spindash) and projectiles.

      ​@@drakejoshofficialyoutubech5569Parrying should have a visual indicator as well as cause the attacker to "stagger" similar to Sora's counter to allow for a greater opening. There's way too many times whenever you Parry a multi-hit halfway through, then get hit by the move anyway. There should also be a new mechanic where if a stale projectile gets parried, it should be reflected. So if you're getting bombarded with Missiles, Lasers or even Kirby Up-B (for more inexperienced players). There's some counterplay for egregious spam.

      @@drakejoshofficialyoutubech5569Both can happen by accident, you can drop the shield and still parry for the first frames. I guarantee you that at least 50% of the parries you see aren't intentional (Is actually very easy to spot by what they do out of parry. If it's something sloppy/random it wasn't intentional)
      I think both should exist but powershield should specifically be good against projectiles or reward reaction (Like if you powershield the shield regains a bit of health by the attack instead of losing it, and reflect projectiles at half power)

    peach doesn’t kill till like 160 and has horrible disadvantage, is very stubby and slow, and her amazing float tech takes SO much effort. why the hell should she be nerfed

    I disagree with diddy. Banana is good but being an item both players can use balances it out a lot. When tossed on shield the opponent has a chance to grab it and use it (unlike turnips, gyro). When you see someone who actually knows how to control items it completely shifts the dynamics of the match
    And his command grab isn’t even that great. The risk/reward is pretty bad, it gets low profiled ALL the time, and you cant use it oos like almost any other command grab (jump + monkey flip sends you way too high to catch anyone on the ground)
    It can kill at ledge (at like 160) and that’s the biggest redeeming factor of the command grab

    As a Puff main, I agree with most of what you said.
    For Diddy I have no clue since I've never fought a good Diddy.
    Some characters need nerfs that is undeniable but I think it is best to buff underperforming characters.
    (That is my way of thinking but perhaps I am just biased as my main is a low tier.)

    i think a great way to nerf game and watch up b would be for it to be chargeable. it can still have that frame 3, invulnerable for like 10 frames, get-off-me functionality but the height will be atrocious and maybe not even have a parachute to make a slower descent. Game and watch has to charge the up b for incredibly long, a bit longer than diddy's barrels, in order for it to be the same up b it is currently. also, being that the move is invulnerable while rising, i think it's fair that it only grabs ledge after game and watch descends.

    Game and Watch up-B: Pros:
    Frame 3 startup
    Covers both sides of him
    Hitboxes reach far horizontally
    Intangibility
    Super high distance
    No freefall: airdodge after, or aerial after
    Able to float horizontally after
    Cons:
    Doesn't kill
    Low damage
    Call me crazy, but I think we should be harsher on GnW. The positive traits are all excellent and far beyond what ultimate characters typically have. This move allows GnW to have the best shield in the game, and it gives him one the absolute best recoveries as well. Both should be nerfed. I say slash half of these positive traits. I don't know which half, but it is absurd for him to have access to all of that in one move. Personally I think the most important one is to give him higher startup on the attack. Then either nerf the distance, or give him freefall. Or make the hitboxes smaller.

      If you look closely when Pac-Man grab frame has a gravitational pull! So if you see him about to go for it! Don’t get too close, just get behind him and punish him!

      He can’t really, just to clarify. He has to commit to a 20 frame option to put it away and grab. He just charges Fruit and light shield cancels to put it away, so it’s not really grabbing with it in hand, unlike Diddy who can always have it in hand and still grab you anyways.

    Samus: charge shot special cooldown, and fair multi hit, just 1 or 2.
    Sonic: Free falling after up b, neutral B.
    Mythra: turn into light weight.
    Steve:Mining speed reduced, Iron being 50% less common.
    Cloud:Back air, up B, down tilt having additional lag frames. Run doesn't lean to much to the ground.
    Minmin:Less knock back on dragon laser and Yellow ball.
    Terry: Medium Weight, or KO meter has a limited amount of uses.
    Joker:Light weight, run animation doesn't lean too much to the ground.
    Young link:Fire arrow speed.
    And many more... Damn, this game is annoying.

    No space animals, no swordies - the most annoying 2 character types to play against. Absolute trash. Those types with their way overtuned frame data, damage values, and knockback values are far far worse to play against than Min Min, G&W, or Diddy Kong.

    Diddy's banana peel should be altered to only trip if it's on the ground. The rest of his moveset should be buffed so he doesn't depend on the peel.

    The nerf I was thinking about for Min Min was an overall slow down to her arm attacks. I unironically love this character, and my comment may very well be believed to be biased, which I can't do anything about that, but alas, I think one more nerf would be necessary. This would mean her arm attacks would be active for longer, but extend and retract slower, like 30 - 50 slower for example. So instead of the frame 15 arm attacks (frame 14, but that hitbox is a sourspot), the arm attacks would be stronger like 4 or 5 frames later, and thus have an extended sourspot period that should be weak. Right now in Smash, her arm attacks extend and retract faster. And honestly, the trample thing was something I didn't think about so having that nerf as well would be a help.
    I think with these two nerfs, you would have to preemptively throw out your arms and while your opponent would have an easier time getting past with the trample nerf in play, it wouldn't outright make her long-ranged melee attack playstyle not worth it.
    And yes, as someone who loves playing sword characters (that aren't from Fire Emblem), I've begun to despise Diddy Kong to where I think he needs a rework for him to not be so reliant on the easy, stunlocking banana that comes at effectively no cost and basically invalidates an important core aspect of shielding counterplay, spacing. And in general I think item tosses should be way slower to invalidate this instant, effort and risk free out of shield option should anyone have an item in hand.

      the arms shouldn't be disjointed imo, like piranha plant's down B. perhaps it'd totally kill the character competitively but I think it's appropriate as like every other really simple character (kirby, little mac, ganin etc), the reason why this characters are bad is because a little buff or two would make them top tier while requiring little to no skill, and after all its ok for the game to not have every character balanced to the others, it ain't all about competitive

      @@cwcchj I see how they shouldn't be disjointed but then again, that would be the biggest nerf to her and this nerf her to mid tier levels if her arms weren't disjointed, which wouldn't be really fair to her and the playerbase. Rather, a universal buff to shielding is faster and farther movement out of shield and especially out of parries for slower characters. And I'd be fine with her not being able to move should her arms hit a shield and be laggier as well.
      And before anyone says remove her, there area plenty of characters like Min Min who have mostly dead, one-off games or franchises like Ness, Lucas, Falcon, Rob(not really a vg character but whatever), Game and Watch, Wii Fit, Duck Hunt, and Ice Climbers, which seem to be a specialty from each smash game's roster. These games weren't bad but unfortunately are in the state they are today. At least it's not as bad as some characters' first game like Corrin for example. And most of the modern FE games story wise... But I don't think removing her, despite many wanting her gone, would be a good thing in the slightest. It may come from my bias towards loving this character but honestly, the rep for ARMS in the roster is deserved for how it helped kicking off the console that would become best-selling console that Nintendo ever made.

      @Aura_Aegis So, I can see your logic is well and good, making Min Min's arms reactable and not such an unpunishable attack at a range. But Min Min already attacks preemptively. Her arms are slow enough that when made even slower would throw her gameplan off balance. The reason she's good isn't because her arms aren't punishable, but because she always has a second arm to react to your option with and the coverage that comes with that.
      Now, I agree that making her arms retract slower would be a good nerf, as well as the trample aspect, but to allow her to be in a healthy spot in the meta, she needs to have a reliable way to swat at opponents when she gets jumped in on. This can be done by giving her better frame data and/or priority on her anti-airs, such as up tilt, up smash and up air. I think if she were balanced with a traditional zoner in mind, she could come out being more fun to play and play against. And it's even better because we don't even have to change her disadvantage at all, because when you really put her in the blender, you'll feel rewarded for getting in on her.

    The main problem with Smash will always be every character having a over centralized gimmick. Characters whose gimmick isn't strong (K.Rool's belly) gets thrown in the bin and like with Diddy's banana, their gimmick is the sole reason why they're good and realistically there's just no way to buff and nerf a character unless the gimmick itself is nerfed and when you do that a character goes from Meta Brawl..... to After Meta Brawl, Bayo Smash 4 to Ult Bayo, Marth Melee to after Melee.

    As a link main I'm a bit confused why link is B-, his advantage can absolutely sauce people don't get me wrong, but his neutral is almost non existent and unless you know how to bomb recover his recovery is slow and predictable and don't even get me started on how vulnerable link is in the air due to having a terrible up air and no range on f air and back air for how slow he is

    I think cloud deserve a nerf. In this current stat, his move are too fast for how big strong and safe they are. The limit move are ok but having a consistent big and fast out of shield option on as his up B is a non sense for me on a character that should struggle in close range combat. Even if this move is punishable it feel like pac man nair why does this move in on this character. If i were in the balance team i would increase the up B startup of 2 frame, reduice bair kill power (-15%) or/and safty on shield (increase by 3 frame the landing lag) in order to feel the move really stall or to be -6 on shield and punishable out of parry for the majority of cast if not perfectly space with not the case currently and may be reduce up air combo potential at low % by increase base knokback and reduce the scalling in order to keep the same kill power and keep up air finishing touch.

    Sonic needs more of a rework than a nerf
    Everyone says it and it's true
    I don't even think nerfing his side b stopping on shield is that important of a nerf either way since sonic can still jump cancel spindash at any point
    Spindash is good, not only because it goes through shields, but because of how he interacts with it
    Safe on parry and block AND on most counters, can cancel it at any point by jumping and immediately springing which has I frames at the beginning, making it impossible to punish with an oos option

    i want a universal nerf by introducing counterhit, if mashing out of hitstun or attack gets interrupted by another attack, it should do a bit more percent and hitstun, allowing true combos easier to people who mash nair or gets interrupted by another attack
