Been like this for years. Sign of the times that it is finally getting attention. Know your underpasses.

What does that say about the people for letting that go on and on? People complain but do nothing.

Union pacific doesn't help you at all if you call them. I've never gotten through and have never gotten a response when I've left messages. There are areas where it's very dangerous to cross the tracks and you'd have to walk far to get around. It's 1 thing to be in a car and learn how to get around the tracks without too much inconvenience but if you're walking, you can't be expected to be able to get across safely.

What town doesn't have trains? Parking on the tracks though, that's insane and should be illegal for any more than 20 minutes.

I used to go to englewood rail yard in my truck when I used to haul containers for the port. I always wondered how it was for residents in that area because those trains are hell.

I've never worked for the RR,. but it's my understanding that if the train blocks the crossing for more than 20 minutes they are supposed to break the train to allow the backed up traffic to cross.
Might want to check with the PD or city attorney on that because I'm not an expert.

I worked for Union Pacific, they're supposed to cut the crossing if they anticipate a stop longer than 10 minutes.

Also, the crossing gates are usually timed well but I have still seen a number of times when the gates close too early or maybe a bit late.

I come from a city that had an ordinance that only allowed the train to block a crossing for 15 minutes. Yes, it was initially ignored. After a few engineers were taken to the magistrate, they started adhering to the time limit. That was the only way to get the attention of the big shots.

City Council Meetings, Folks ! That is the only way to fix the problem. I live in Roseville, Calif and 1 1/2 block from the U.P. west coast yard. They don't block our streets, they don't blow their horns at the crossings and WE Complain when they do. To them, the city, the cops And the Fire Dep't . It is Unsafe for them to block the streets !

coming from somewone who works on the railroad we can't do nothing about this. we are told to not stop on major crossings but sometimes its unavoidable. Id be a different story if you had to walk a mile and half on rocks as the conductor and walk back up. again not saying people don't have the right to be frustrated just from employees stand point we can only do so much.

No big deal ! When I went to school (2nd grade) near Wayside Dr & Sherman yr1960+\- my sister, brother and I would crawl under the trains that blocked our way to the school. Sometime we wait but would be late cause train would just park. Once the engineer jerked the tank car, almost pooped my pant.

Things are not going to snap back fast after the Pandemic. Connecting and disconnecting cars. The more cars the more wait time. The more wait time the more impatient people get. Until the flow of goods evens out it may get worse before it gets better.

Can the Rail road or someone create a real time train app that can be downloaded on folks phone, that able to send a text alert of a train nearing a intersection, or one that is stalled that can be viewed on a person phone, that way it will give them another option or road to take to avoid the area can someone do this? It could be done for all rail road crossing similar to what you might see on a freeway warning sign of possible road work or traffic accidents...I know they have the technology to track train movements create a app that can be downloaded to help us all out someone could probably even make money $$ from creating the train crossing app

Those train tracks were placed there long before anything else. This is also going to increase with the shutdown of the pipeline, but everyone will continue to blame the train. Myself, I enjoy the trains and I live 2 blocks from the tracks with a frequent hub.

No, they need to take it to the people responsible. Block their cars from moving and see how they like it. They are laughing at the people of that town and think they are too stupid to do anything about it and if it has been going on for years they are right.
