I thought the Illuminate was the easiest to fight by a VAST margin. I assumed it was because they hadn't released all the units yet... turns out they are apparently just hard.

Dude, I ran through streets, being chased by battalions of Illuminate, with no stumps, no ammo, and *NO STRATAGEMS.* Malevon Creek may as well have been swim lessons.
Helldiver vet here to tell you rookies they also have instakill sniper drones and invisible scouts to alert the forces. As well as stun shots that mix up your controls. Fear their return.
In all honesty, cyborgs were the worst, mainly due to the tanks also being a scout unit that could call in reinforcement AND summon units at the same time as well as a one shot weapon. Plus the large amount of heavys means you need a lot more heavy weapons
There were tough untill you realised you didn't need anti tank weapons. Ammo backpack+HMG made them silly easy. (and a displacer field just in case you accidentally miss a wall forming)

The problem being that sometimes the walls closed you in and blocked your shots, so with good mobility and enough shield shredding power to quickly pass over walls and eliminate priority targets they were quite managable both in groups or solo on the highest difficulty. It's honestly been too long for me to remember my exact loadout, but I think I defaulted to some automatic shotgun to shred shields and smg to still be effective while carrying the case against them, with the jetpack to ignore walls, I cannot for the life of me remember what else I brought. They were easier than the bots and bugs, but not as fun because of the walls and there always being the one guy who got stuck all the time while the rest leapfrogged around. 🤔

Definitely going to be a big event for the future. It's really cool discoverying the lore of helldiver's and it's super reassuring there's probably going to be so much more content in the future. Helldivers 2 has plenty of content from the first game they can pull into the second game
Because the entire community focused them down because they needed to be focused down to put it in perspective the shortest war in helldivers one history was lost by the illuminate taking super Earth *IN 3 DAYS*
We only won by .5% Even worse, the creek had over 27 million helldivers die for it over the course of the 9 weeks it took to reclaim it. The combat on Calypso only lasted 2 days, and it managed to beat the casualty numbers on the creek. And that was with nearly every available helldiver dropping onto the planet once.
That would be insanely cool, a strategic cyborg race and it kinda adds up, you got Terminids who are the obvious mindless bugs, the Automatons under a secret main intelligence and can set up bases, and then the this final faction which has strategy, technology, and combat efficiency in mind, its literally three levels of intelligence and threat
All they need after that is a race of ork-like creatures who just fucking love war and then some humans who turned against super earth and voila, you’ve covered pretty much every scifi/fantasy niche too
The Terminids are a lot like the Tyranids in Warhammer 40,000. Don't discount them at all. They just spread and consume entire planets. They may be relatively unintelligent, but they are innumerable and relentless.
Veteran of Malevelon creek here- the squids aren't that bad. Nothing concentrated plasma, lead, lasers, and rocket rounds and a couple 500kgs can't stop. Along with many others, I've been torn away from the bot front and deployed to fight the illuminate. You rookies have it easy fighting the squids.

The great eye is one of three boss enemies that had their own special anti boss missions in Helldivers 1. It's not a regular enemy and you won't get to see them until Aroowhead introduces boss missions again. So guys, please stop hyping up the great eye as if it's some kind of bile titan for the illuminates.

Lore wise, Super Earth reverse engineered Illuminate technlogy for the bubble shield strategems. Helldivers 1 took place 100 years in the past to where we are now in Halldivers 2. So there was another 100 years to reverse engineer their technology in the lore, I wonder what the Ministry of Truth are cooking up behind the scenes. There's hints in the News broadcast streamed to the destroyer's main bay too. So if they come back we can expect a fast track of high tech strategems. First we get mechs, then we shoot for the stars (literally and figuratively).
I don't think we'll see the great eyes and the bigger units of all factions as Devs have said that bigger groups won't be around. Unless we get reinforcements, they will be almost impossible to defeat.
They probably wont introduce any other factions, until they update weapons, armour functionality and stratagems. Theyll probably update with the known stuff, once servers are stable and the GM decides to do a crisis event
funnily enough, theyre the least scary or threatening of the 3 enemy factions, they actually tend to go down first, of course, Helldivers 2 might shake things up a bit

Lore wise, Super Earth reverse engineered Illuminate technlogy for the bubble shield strategems.
Helldivers 1 took place 100 years in the past to where we are now in Halldivers 2. So there was another 100 years to reverse engineer their technology in the lore, I wonder what the Ministry of Truth are cooking up behind the scenes.

Currently the Illuminate seem happy to observe the Helldivers from a distance. If they come back, maybe we should greet them with a stand-off-ish diplomatic unit, with hundreds of Super Destroyers watching carefully in case aggression is shown, of course.
Either they are the Aeldar or the Necrons of Helldivers.
