I was just browsing some videos of Highland Park, and came across yours. @2:06 you turned left onto California St. I grew up on that street. All those houses were filled when I was growing up. 80's - 90's. I left Michigan after college, everybody started leaving, older folks that took care of their homes died off, and its sad how it looks now. My mom owned her home, and we let it go (didn't make sense to keep paying taxes on a home that was empty, and all of us moved out of state), we said goodbye. Last I heard someone bought the house, but it looked bad in the video. Nice upload, brought back memories.

Used to have family there back in the day. Worked there and in Detroit as an EMT between 1989 and 1999. It was really bad then, and worse now. Nice to see some houses are still good. The old H.P. jail is gone. (Good thing, it was almost like a dungeon in there).

Highland Park WAS TOTALLY freaking Beautiful in it's HEY days ‼️. It's really disheartening how MAN CAN BE SO FREAKING DESTRUCTIVE ‼️ BUT AT THE SAME TIME WILL ARGUE ABOUT WHAT THEY DON'T HAVE ‼️ THEY HAVE NOT BECAUSE THEY WANT NOT. THERE'S A LOT OF BEAUTIFUL PLACES IN DETROIT MICHIGAN AND HIGHLAND PARK MICHIGAN. BUT THE VIOLENCE AND DESTRUCTION MAKES PEOPLE AFRAID TO LIVE THERE ANYMORE ‼️ AND IT'S REALLY HORRIBLE AND VERY SAD.😭

+mister bojangles Highland Park is a separate municipality, but in reality and actuality it is a part of the city, because it is located in the very inside of Detroit.

Thats the neighborhoods I wish the government would focus on saving. That one could be brought back because its just on the verge of decay. Its too late for the ones that have blocks of abandoned, burned houses but its not too late for that place. Make the owners fix the ones that are abandoned or take them and sell them to someone who can afford to maintain it, like with a condition that they got to fix it up or they have to give give it back.

The south and west side of Chicago have been bad for eons now. Detroit is actually worst, 60% of the population have left since the '60s when the decline of the auto industry began before going bust later is what created thousands of abandoned homes and hundreds of closed and abandoned businesses and factories.

  • @Ukeepthelies8471

What is happening now, is these old houses are being flipped, they used to sell at an inexpensive price and sometimes by auction. Now, they sell it torn up condition for $100,000 or more. People fix them up and a very high asking price is set of $200,000 or more. First time home buyers are cut out, they are rented out and fall back into ruin, I see it in every large, mid-size and small city or town I travel too. They think they'll obtain better owners or renters if buying and rental prices are high. Often, that isn't true.

LORI MITCHELL JONES Unfortunately anyone in their right mind wouldn’t buy in Highland Park!
I lived there in the 60’s and early 70’s when the homes were still being taken care of. The taxes are
outrageous and it’s a high crime area due to drugs..... We lived in a 11 room house that was beautiful
but I would be afraid to even drive through there in broad daylight 😞😟

"Detroit's beautiful Highland Park homes" is an oxymoron.
Highland Park is not a neighborhood - it's a city, with its own government and boundaries.
Maybe a dozen houses are literally in both cities, as an invisible boundary cuts right through a plot of land.

Highland Park Michigan should be disincorporated city because it is about 90 percent of the decline between 1940 and 2020. Back in 1940, the population of Highland Park Michigan was more then 50,000, but today, the population is stand at about 7,000.
