The exact time between “New Wind and Ourselves” and then grew into “Soulforce Revolution.” In my opinion this was there best few years of growth and creativity! By the time I saw them in the summer of 90 they had a control over the audience that still gives me chills when I think about it. A big part of me wishes that they had continued that growth, I think it could have been something truly amazing!! But instead they went back to their old fast punk style. Which was great don’t get me wrong. But these guys were truly on an amazing path. And most people really don’t know how truly great these guys were as musicians. They really could have started something new. Either way I still love them!!! Thanks for putting this up!!!
They were a victim of the wave of college radio into grunge, they got swept up then dropped. They went back to their roots to survive. These years were great, got to see them many times, Kev always said at shows "Take care of each other"
Agreed! I love all of it but when I hear some of these albums I really thought they were ahead of something great. I always tell my son that if some of those songs were released in the early 90's they would have been mega huge and very influential. You listen to this and Soulforce and it was way ahead of its time. Great stuff. All of it!
Thank you immensely. I am in Ecuador and wondering whether I should come back to the "United States". This band did more than they could ever fathom for my life.
RIP 7 Seconds! Your music will always be inspirational. This EP Praise proves that punk had the possibilities of melody and diversity! Essential listening.
first show, 7 seconds, shitty gardens, Trenton , NJ, w/ token entry & 76 % uncertain...one thing I was not disappointed in life by! :) definitely rose to the occasion! on f this album siren is by far my favorite! all of it still relevant today!
I saw 7 Seconds for the first time in 1987 at City Gardens in Trenton, NJ. Up until that point, I always thought of them as "Walk Together..." or "The Crew". I remember when they took the stage, and my friends said, "When did they become hippies?" They played all of the songs from Praise, and mixed in the old stuff. It blew my mind.
+gmcg923 I caught them at Jannus Landing in St. Pete, FL on that tour. For the first time, at age 13. You nailed it! It was my first punk show-they with the Circle Jerks. My god. What a show.
I just realized something crazy, 7 seconds might be the only band where even though they changed their sound, I enjoy both styles equally. I can listen to "sister" or "escape and run", and get the same feeling as "young till I die" or "trust". It's crazy because I'm really picky, and usually get annoyed when bands stray too far from their origins (I can't even attempt any propagandhi albums after "less talk.")... actually I lied, dag nasty "can I say" is fairly different from "field day", and I enjoy them both just about equally.
@@jasonkessler6841 no problem, but there’s something else I realized after writing this, I’m pretty sure that I was introduced to 7 seconds, dag nasty (and descendents/all which should probably be in the discussion) at the same time, 88-89. So I heard both versions of the bands at the same time I think. I wasn’t as picky, old, and grumpy… I don’t know, either way they’ve all great
It’s too bad that their audience didn’t grow with them. New Wind through Soulforce Revolution are the peak for me. College rock didn’t seem to embrace them and punk was in a weird place. I was a little disappointed when they signed to a major and went back to a more punk sound. Always great live. So happy they are back together
Exactly the same for me, their major label punk album was a step back imo, though not bad. They tried their hand at "grunge" a little bit too, remember?"Out the Shizzy", ha,ha! I dug that album and managed to see them on that tour, they made it to Europe on it.
I first heard most of these tracks on the live album. I spent years trying to track down a copy and when I finally heard the recorded versions I was totally blown away. That record stayed on my turntable for months. So powerful. I asked Kevin once after a solo show if it had ever come out on CD and he said he thought it had but didn't remember the details. Anyone fans out there know?
I was into this. When New Wind came out, at first I went "WTF?!" and was pretty bummed that it wasn't The Crew Pt II. I almost returned it to the shop for a refund. It took a few listens but it grew on me pretty fast. When Praise came out I was all over it. I forget what the next album was called, that one I thought was just boring. But then I got real into Soulforce. Then I guess I got old because I have no clue what they did after that.
@@trevorlambert4226I literally forgot everything about Ourselves, but I still have my copy. I found it a few months ago and listened to it again. After all these years, my opinion hasn't changed- the one and only song I like is Wish I Could Help.
I like “Ourselves” better than “Soulforce Revolution.” Is that unusual? The songs and lyrics are more accessible than Soulforce, and yet there’s a diversity of song ‘types.’ Sister, Sleep, Wish I Could Help, When One Falls… all great songs.
@@markdaniels7174 I also like it ("Ourselves") a lot, it is so dignified and introspective. But, yes, it is unusual, "Soulforce" was their breakthrough, i mean, in hc/alternative/college radio circles.Certainly not the mainstream. But "Soulforce" was so catchy!
Thanks for the upload. Little known, underappreciated mini album from an underrated band. I have this on vinyl that I got second hand, with pretty poor sound quality.
got this record from SMASH in georgetown dc, when i was a kid. Where the hell did it go? No idea who i borrowed it to **hearing not enough time after 30 years is spooky wow
Was this right around the Soulforce Revolution era? I'll be honest. I'm torn on whether I like this era or not. I don't listen to it for several months, come back to it and put it on repeat for like a week at a time (or at least keep it in my playlist.) Time passes and I come back to it, and I'm like "eh, nah, not really. Should have kept the Crew sound." Pass a few months, wash, rinse, repeat.
I can dig it. But the soal of the old jamz is why I stuck with 7 seconds. Fast paced hard hitting jamz. Like....Police brutality...or...skins.brains and guts
So good. Their new stuff is good, too, but I think it's a shame that they seem to have abandoned the path of growth and experimentation to revert to the 'safe' option of fairly standard hardcore.
Holy F_ I don't have this one. Opener is kinda weak (not a good way to introduce the new sound with all that crossover business back then) but the subsequent tracks just sing. The tribal groove @9:36 is a welcome surprise.
I read something years back, a list of the top back-to-back-to-back albums by bands Bad Religion, Metallica, I think Guns & Roses (egads) were on the list. Ridiculous to me. because from "The Crew" to "Soulforce Revolution" there is a five album stretch, six if you count this EP, and seven albums if you count a live album where each album was fantastic.
PRAISE y OUT THE SHIZZY son los 2 mejores diskos de la puta historia, y el bajo de 7 SECONDS es inkreible en TODOS los temas ke tienen dsd las mq's.. best band EVER!!!!!!!!!! Kevins lyrics are my bible...my religion!
This record doesn't get enough PRAISE.
I see what you did there ;)
The heavens sing dance and rejoice . . Thank you . And AMEN 🙏
Such a great record. Kevin's vocals are awesome.

Agreed! I feel that they had to appeal to the superficial HC crowd who weren't really listening to the lyrics anyway
They were a victim of the wave of college radio into grunge, they got swept up then dropped. They went back to their roots to survive. These years were great, got to see them many times, Kev always said at shows "Take care of each other"

Beautifully said, but I think they kinda did create something new with their sound... I can't think of any other band who sounds like them
Needs more thumbs up. No band grew and changed more during their time and eventually came full circle. To me, this is the best 7 seconds record.
Thank you immensely. I am in Ecuador and wondering whether I should come back to the "United States". This band did more than they could ever fathom for my life.

I always thought of this as their nod to U2.
Saw them from walk together rock together to soulsforce and saw their last show in LA love this band thanks for the good times 🙏

7 Seconds always has and always will have one sound: THEIR sound, as they continue to play whatever they like just as they always have
@yefartz108 Yes, great example, "You" changed their sound radically and is, imo, their best.
Still have the cassette.
😉
KEVIN SECONDS!!!!!!!!!!
And what’s the deal with Spotify not having this?
I want to know this as well. Walk Together Rock Together just hit Spotify not long ago hopefully this will too???
Thank you so much for this awesome upload. It’s been too long since I’ve got to feel this one.

But yeah, "Soulforce" was probably their ultimate peak-era, they even had some minor alt-radio hits, or so i remember.

The album after this was Ourselves. You should revisit it, it's one of their best, maybe takes a few listens. The Music, The Message is also great.

I wish I still had my LP!
Still have mine! i've lost others i never wanted to lose tho!

Me encanta .
They recorded this right after coming off tour and Kevins voice was shot by his own admission. I would have lived to have them re record these songs.
+kmxbox Always loved his "failing" voice on this. I think it fits the whole theme of the record. Also love the bass.
i loved all of 7seconds. but i think this was their best work. at least in the 90's Praise is my least fave song on it, but its still not bad.
Yes some incredibly good bass on this if you pay attention
Kevin Mack Krav Maga steve is an amazing bass player. very under rated and under appreciated
@@briank5486 Steve is an awesome bassist, but this another great bassist, Josef Bansuelo.

before. right after new wind, tho--same year (86). ourselves was '88, then soulforce revolution after.
Kinda has a Janes Addiction vibe on the first track
