I joined the Canberra straight from sea school, tied up ahead was the most beautiful ship I ever set eyes on. The Lavender hull of the Windsor Castle & I wished more than anything to be joining her. She took my breath away! Although the Canberra was impressive the Windsor Castle was everything a ship should look like.
Well very nice to see her again what a lovely ship Liner . I can remember just like yesterday I can still smell her fresh paint when she was at Durban I was only a boy then about 10 years old and before we set sale for England we went to see her about 2 weeks before to view her I played the one armed bandit and got tick tack toe jack pot full of tanners sixpences that lasted me all the way to England My Dad done his job in South Africa working for Alcan and he had two boys to look after he never gave up when mom left us for good. At the time Africa was hard yet Africa looked after us in its own way I have a lot of love for Africa and the people there . The RMS PENDENNIS CASTLE WOW what a lovely ship for the time built 1957 we came back on her 1968 Durban to Southhampton once you got your see legs you was ok . The sights I seen were fantastic flying fish dolphins . I went to school on board her. She was a fantastic ship should never had been scraped . I will always love her I owe her so much she gave me life again Love you RMS Pendennis Castle and yes at the time Windsor Castle was the same as Pendennis Castle
Memories indeed. After living in Lusaka for many years this 11 year old returned to UK on September 1969 on this beautiful ship. Cape Town to Southampton via Las Palmas and Funchal.
Fabulous ship, my first, had my 21st at sea on my first voyage. Commodore Dillon Cambridge always flew the blue ensign not the red as in various clips. Those of us that our left, meet every three years at "The Pursers Reunion" held in Southampton. A great Company to work for, and superb Officers and Crew. Passsengers were nice too. Best wishes to all those who sailed on the Pendennis. Alan Charlesworth, Purser,
I only know it as the theme from "The Match Game." A popular game show that aired sometime in the 60s and 70s. The host was Gene Ravern. Just a little useless information.
Quite right! It's the Windsor entering Durban. Incidentally, the Pendennis was the fastest in the fleet capable of 28 knots. She set the final Union-Castle record for a passage between Cape Town and Southampton in 10 days and 11 hours in August 1969.
Thank you, Georg. This is the first time I've gotten a good look at the Pendennis Castle though I've know about her for many years.---Wonderful selection of music for such an attractive liner. Some of the interiors don't look so good from the point in time but the exterior design is beautiful.
Sailed on her as a kid with my Mum back to Southampton when she unusually called in to St Helena in (?) 1973 after the Good Hope Castle caught fire. From recollection she didn't look much like the pictures but we were not in first class. Preferred the Good Hope and Southampton Castles.

Sailed on this fine vessel, R.M.S. Pendennis Castle - Union Castle Line forever 🤘
Sailed on the Pen for 4 trips in the late 60s (as well as 4 other Cape boats)what a fantastic ship and crew. Pity not many crew faces shown
I was 2nd asst cook 68/69. do you remember how many crew were on board?
My dad was the drummer in the band on this ship for a while. His company rotated the ships he was on after a while. He loved the Pendennis castle .
We left England to move to South Africa.
Around 71-72
I was around two then.
It was the ship we sailed on.
I might have prepared your meals. I was 2nd assistant cook, 1st class 1971. Great times.

A mad rush to the porch with balancing our supper to watch this beautiful ship leave harbour, ach man memories really sad
What a bright and cheerful song to go along with such a pretty and elegant liner!
I only know it as the theme from "The Match Game." A popular game show that aired sometime in the 60s and 70s. The host was Gene Ravern. Just a little useless information.
The music was composed by a German. His name was Bert Keampfert. He also wrote the songs Strangers in the night, LOVE and Spanish Eyes.
Interesting.
@@frankmayer139 I remember that show!
Sailed on her from Southampton to Cape Town when we emigrated to Rhodesia in 1975.
Good memories
What cheery,airy interiors.
I sailed on the Pendeniss Castle
Arrive Cape Town 1 May 1968
No other passenger liner will have the grace and charm of the castle line ships, salutos
Unfortunately, the ship shown at 0:48, (entering Durban if I recall correctly), is not the Pendennis Castle but the Windsor Castle.

Correct name of the music is A Swinging Safari. It's by Burt Kaemfert and his Orchestra.
picture at 51 seconds is actually Windsor Castle.
Hola amigos just awsome
Damn those to hell who caused the Castle Line ships to be broken up
very nice video! -though, the cover image shows the RMS Windsor Castle rather than Pendennis!
How can you tell were they sister ships
theCybershot123 No, they are both different you can tell.
There not sister ships . Total difference class of vessel .
I really hate what they did to these beautiful ladies(ships)
Fate: Scrapped in 1980 in Taiwan 🇹🇼
