Tide powder, Borax, Clorox and Baking Soda Mix on a bucket of water or fill the bathtub, let the clothes sit there for at least 3 hours, move the clothes around the water with gloves at least twice. Then wash on washer as normal. You be surprised how the water changes color even with washed whites. I found this here on YT searching how to make white bed sheets white again.

what if the shirt is colored, i.e., not white?
